Entry I'm back! Post-Thanksgiving debriefing ;)

It was a lovely long weekend...I went over to the mainland on Thursday evening for a meeting on Friday and booked off an extra day to extend my long weekend. Joel and I drove out to his parents place in the Interior for Thanksgiving weekend...it was really nice. Well mostly.

We stopped by to see his daughter and son from 2nd marriage, daughter was quite upset because she had other commitments and couldnt come with us to her grandparetns place, and wanted us to wait for her (waiting would have meant arriving just in time for Thanksgiving dinner and that's about it, there's no way we were driving 10 hours (plus the extra time detouring and stopping to see her on the way) to only be there for an evening, that would be stupid, but she's 10 and just didn't get it. So she refused to speak to her dad, and wasted the little time we had to visit sulking. Sigh.

We had a really nice visit with his parents and sister and all the rest of the crew, it was great to see them and everyone was amazed at how great we both looked - my weight loss had been more profound but he's lost some too and looks fantastic. A lot has changed in a year! And his sister said to Joel "you have to marry this girl", referring to me, which is a HUGE compliment coming from her since she detested his 2 past wives and is always very critical of his mates...well apparently they just sucked because she thinks I am great, and can see how in love we are and how good we are for eachother, and thinks I am actually deserving of her brother, and that he is lucky to have found me, how cool is that. His parents feel the same way, and both his sister and his father made a point of telling me that they feel less worried about Joel now that he's with me. It feels SO good because I really like them and am so glad that they like me. Also his sons from 1st marriage were able to come, it was nice to see them too.

THanksgiving dinner was huge and delicious and of course a no-counting day was in order, who knows how anything was prepared, there was a creamy 5-cheese lasagne in addition to the turkey with all the trimmings, and a turnip casserole that is made with lots of butter and sugar, and a broccoli casserole that had some kind of cream sauce with smoked salmon, and various other temptations, plus of course pumpkin pie and apple pie for dessert. YUM. I had a little of everything, but did not stuff myself silly, yay! I accomplished this by wearing the tightest jeans I own and eating slowly, so that the food had time to settle and at the time I would usually go for seconds, I was feeling too full so didn't. Yay for tight jeans!

I made and brought carrotcake muffins that were a huge hit, especially since they were only 150 calories each. Singing_girl, I used your recipe and they turned out fantastic. I will definately make those again! I also used a reduced-fat icing made of low-fat cream cheese and marshmallow fluff, turned out great.

Our arrival was actually very comedic...we got in very late and the house was dark and quiet, so we assumed everyone was sleeping and crept in as quietly as we could. We were just falling asleep, when his sister comes bursting into the spare room we were sleeping in, and yells AGHHHH WHO"S IN HERE!!! OMIGOD IT"S JOEL!!! Apparently his mom had kept our visit a surprise, and his sister was annoyed that people were trying to keep her awake, they were all watching a movie in the basement suite, and she came up to put the kids to bed in the spare room, um surprise! Because we crept in so quietly his mom didn't realize we had arrived yet....we are lucky we didn't get beaned with a frypan or something. I had left the cupcakes on the counter so that helped....I don't think intruders bring treats! Thank god I wasn't totally naked, and that we weren't having sex, she was mortified that she burst in on us like that lol....I guess the surprise went a little sideways!

Well the scale was rather brutal this morning, hopefully the 248 will be back soon. I'm sure it will!

Sounds like you had a great thanks giving.  I am thinking of making a pumpkin pie for Halloween this year (seeing as we don't have thanksgiving!).  I've never had pumpkin pie before in my life!

I'm glad you tried the carrot cake/muffin recipe and it turned out well! YUM! :-D

What a great story!  I can just imagine you guys creeping in with them all watching a movie in the basement!

Joel's sister sounds very open - and it's awesome that she likes you.  Maybe it will mean you guys will be a good match.

That was a GREAT idea to wear tight jeans.  I might have to do the same when our thanksgiving rolls around.

I was laughing at your tight jean strategy for Thanksgiving....most people try to wear the pants with the most room in the waist!  Good job!  And I think it is great how much Joel's family seems to like and appreciate you (as they should!)!

Glad to hear you had a good thanksgiving.. and that noone walked in on you and joel while you were doing *the nasty* that would ahve been a great first impression !! hahaha

I read you other jornal entry too .. so ill just comment here, Im almost afraid of being able to fit in regular sized store clothing, Ive never been much of a shopper, mostly because its so freaking depressing, and im so scared that once its not depressing ... Im going to become one of those bimbo shopaholic blondes that i despise !!!

Im having my turkey in a few weeks, as my parents are away, and i really didnt want to make Turkey for 2 ... once they come back we are going to have a Thanksgiving feast im sure =)

Take care hun

Sounds like a nearly-perfect family holiday.  I was one of those sulky 10-year old girls once.  I think it's good that Joel's daughter is learning she can't have it all.  She's learning that all choices have consequences--both positive and negative.
