Entry Thinking about calcium
Oct 11 2008 09:37

Thinking about what food has larger amounts of calcium in it.  Thinking about my daughter and wondering if she isn't mal-nourished.  Quite over weight but mal-nourished cause she is trying to pay bills.  I don't want to hurt her sense of being cause she will be 30 next year- BUT after today's phone conversation, I plan to bring a box of dry milk and some Viactive chews plus apples and other goodies from the produce market.  She appreciates dry powdered milk.  I know few others who say that and mean it.  She went out into her back yard and foraged some dandelion greens.  Sure makes me aware of my protected life.  And the two medium home tomatoes that I ate with my lunch.   Heavy cold last night- maybe down to the high teens.  Wind with sun this morning is making the day time not that delightful, either.  A ibuprofen has beat off a sinus headache.

Yesterday: 40 minutes in pool.  Usual dog walk.  Had a way too tasty half slice of Safeway cake for a snack later and stroganoff for supper- do I think I am a football player???   Also fit in tomatoes.  Think we have about a week left of tomatoes.  Got to get out to the greenhouse and check there again.  I've not picked any from there.  Did pick all the green outside tomatoes and peppers yesterday.  Plus snipped some apple mint for tea.  Boo hoo- steeped the mint leaves and still couldn't really taste them but the warm liquid was welcome.  Makes for a pretty ground cover, at least.

Today I am grateful for a friendly phone conversation with my Rachel.  I am grateful for ibuprofen.  I am grateful for the ability to buy food when we run out.  I am grateful for knowing my basic nutrition.

High calcium foods that you could take besides the milk:  black beans, navy beans, brazil nuts, almonds.  I think oranges are pretty good too.  We never stop worrying about our children,  I always fret about what Will's eating.

Stroganoff - brought back memories of a recipe that my mom used to make - in my meat eating days it was yummy.
