Not starting a thread on this because heaven only knows how crazy it would get in there.
Here's the thing: There seem to be alot of anti-smokers out there. I'm talking about the ones who don't even like their neighbor smoking on their own property because it can waft into other neighbor's windows. For these very outspoken anti-smokers, I'd like to pose a question....are you also against the legalization of marijuana? It is smoked, it can waft, your kids can still breath it in just as easily as cigarette smoke.
And........discuss!!
smoke up i say |
I believe in live and let live. If people choose to smoke they have that right. As long as they aren't doing so in a closed in space so non-smokers have no choice but the breathe in thesecond hand smoke. I have zero tolerance for people who feel they have the right to force their opinion on the matter on others and who feel justified in heaping insults and abuse on people who choose to indulge in a perfectly legal substance. As for the other, well I'm not really one to judge because I don't use the stuff, but as far as I can tell, it's really not that different from alcohol, another perfectly legal substance. I guess that in this case, it would be treated in much the same way as alcohol and cigarettes as to legal age of consumption and places where it could and couldn't be used. |
smoke up i say Hehe! This is coming from a non-smoker if I remember correctly? Caverlady - IF weed were ever to be legalized (and personally, I don't want it to be) I'd hope that they had really strict rules about it....like alcohol. No smoking in public at all, no driving, etc |
I think that pot should be treated the same way as alcohol. I'm not a smoker, I've never smoked, but I don't see where pot is as dangerous as alcohol. I've never seen anyone who is high on pot get into a rage and start a fight...if anything, those who are high tend to be much mellower from what I've seen. Now, in regards to where you can do it...not on the patio below my window or the neighbor's patio. If you want to smoke in your own house that is not attached to anyone else's house then by all means go ahead. Do not smoke anywhere that it will effect other people either by smell or by getting them high. Do it in your own car with all the windows rolled up. Anyplace that has designated smoking areas go ahead. |
See! That ^^ is the problem. Smoke carries. How do you regulate it? Alcohol is easy. At least someone can sit next to someone with a beer and (usually) not offend them, but you can't sit next to someone with a doobie. It just aint right. So then you get to your balcony....well that doesn't work because then the person above you on their balcony complains. So then you go outside, but then it's wafting into the neighbor's windows.... I know these are the same problems with cigarettes, but pot does alter your mind, and someone else getting a contact high would not be a good thing either. And even though potheads don't normally start fights, there is still that darn killing of brain cells. And the fact that their reaction time is slowed because of it. |
Yes I'm against second hand smoke. No I don't favor legalizing marijuana. As one who has serious lung and breathing problems, I can tell you that the smallest trace of smoke, be it from tobacco, somebody's BBQ or wood burning stove, or from smoking illegal substances, is a real problem for me. Right now I'm sitting here coughing uncontrollably because I passed some jerk smoking a cigar in the entrance of the building. I guess you could say I'm anti air pollution for personal reasons. |
I have severe chronic asthma. I am against second hand smoke. I do not favor the legalization of marijuana. Heck, I'd ban fireplaces if I could. |
I like swinging back and forth on the pendulum between letting those who choose to smoke pot live with whatever consequences there are (i.e. legalize it...and everything else while we're at it) and then feeling some level of social responsibility (i.e. society's better off taking a stand against it...hey, read your Rousseau). Today, given the images of passing hundreds of stinky stoners currently going through my head, I'm against legalization. Tomorrow, if I'm in a more cynical mood, I'd probably be for it. |
i think smoking is digusting and if you are doing it in a public place where i have to be subjected to it just during my daily comings and goings, i'm against it. bars for example. heehe actually that's a bad example because i don't go to bars daily, but you know what i mean :) BUT, if you wanna smoke outside a building away from the door, or walking down the street, or in your house or on your front lawn then go to town! i also think pot should be legalized, because if i feel like smoking a joint in the confines of my own home, i'm hurting no one, and i should NOT be considered a criminal. *strolls out humming bob marley* |
oh, and i should add that i think pot use should be regulated just like alchohol. i am in NO way for allowing people to stroll down main street hitting a bong. like alcohol, it should be enjoyed in your own home, on your property, or in designated places (like the cafes in amsterdam). |
Thank you all for your comments. I tend to go the way of dnrothx...Sometimes I'm like "whatever, kill your brain cells if you want to" and then later I'm like "wait a second, do we really want to condone this"? I dunno. But thank you all for the comments. |
