Irish Raisin Soda Bread Recipe

Raisin Soda Bread

Ingredients
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 1/2 tbsp baking soda
1 1/2 tbsp salt
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups buttermilk
3 tbsp molasses
2 cups golden raisins
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

  3. In a large bowl, combine the flours, oats, baking soda, salt and sugar, then use your hands or a wooden spoon to mix

  4. Form a well (or hole) in the center of the dry ingredients

  5. Into the well, pur the buttermilk and molasses

  6. Mix until combined

  7. Add the raisins, then use your hands to knead the dough (in the bowl or on a lightly floured counter) several times to work in the raisins

  8. On a lightly floured surface, divide the dough in two, then shape each half into a round

  9. Transfer the rounds to the prepared baking sheet

  10. Use a knife to cut a large X in the top of each loaf

  11. Place the baking sheet in the oven

  12. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325 and bake for another 40 to 45 minutes

  13. The loaves should be lightly browned

  14. Let the loaves cool before eating
