Himmasiyya (Beef and chickpea stew)

This is an Andalusian recipe.

Ingredients
1 1/4 lbs stewing beef
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp coriander, ground
1/2 tsp cumin, ground
15 ounce can chickpeas
6 cloves garlic
5 tbsp vinegar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cinnamon, ground
1/8 tsp black pepper
Directions
  1. Cut meat into 1/4 inch bits.

  2. Put meat, water, spices, and chickpeas in a pot.

  3. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes.

  4. Mash the garlic in a mortar, mix it with the vinegar and add it to the pot.

  5. Stir, add the salt, cook an additional 5 minutes, remove from heat, sprinkle with the cinnamon and pepper and serve.
