Basic scone recipe

Makes 2 servings

Add a quarter cup of dried fruit or nuts to liven up this bare-bones recipe.

Ingredients
1 cup flour, all purpose, unbleached
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/2 t. baking powder
1/4 t. baking soda
1/4 c. sour cream
1/4 whole egg
1/4 c. sugar
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425.

  2. Cut up butter.

  3. Stir baking soda into sour cream and set aside.

  4. Combine dry ingredients.

  5. Cut in butter.

  6. Add 1/4 cup of dried fruit, if desired.

  7. Add sour cream mixture and egg to mixture.

  8. On floured surface, pat out into circle 1/2 to 3/4 inch high.

  9. Cut into wedges.

  10. Bake for 12 minutes.
