Grandma Della's Rugelach Recipe

Grandma Della's Rugelach

Ingredients
1/2 lb margarine
3 cups flour
3 tbsp Powdered sugar
3 Egg yolks
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups ground walnuts
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 1/4 tsp yeast
Directions

  3. ½ lb. butter or margarine ½ c. milk or water

  4. 3c. flour + 3T. powdered sugar 1 T. sugar

  5. 1 pkg. dry yeast ½ t. salt

  6. 3 egg yolks

  7. Dissolve yeast & sugar in warm water or milk. Let stand 10 minutes. Mix flour & butter until it looks like sand (can use Cuisinart - pulse a few times) or use pastry blender or fingers. Make a well in flour mixture and add egg yolks. Add yeast mixture.

  8. Mix and then knead lightly & divide into three parts. Wrap each part in plastic wrap. Refrigerate.

  9. Now for nut mixture: ¾ c. sugar

  10. ¾ c. ground walnuts

  11. 1 ½ t. cinnamon

  12. Mix these ingredients together. Sprinkle a little nut mixture on a flat surface. Roll out dough in circle and cover with some nut mixture. Cut each piece of dough into about 16 wedges.

  13. Roll into small crescent shape. Let rise 20
