Submitted by clairelaine

Makes 8 servings

A Chinese soup that is often served for breakfast, with a health food twist, using mixed whole grains. You can add millet, cracked wheat, or any other grain. This may be seasoned with soy sauce. Add the additional sodium to the total. You may also add a garnish of sliced scallions or cilantro.

Ingredients
3/4 cup brown rice
1/4 cup quinoa
4 cups water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic
1 teaspoon ginger root
Directions
  1. Grate the garlic and ginger root to yield 1 teaspoon of each

  2. Combine everything in a large heavy pot and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover

  3. Stir every 10 minutes

  4. Cook until the grains are completely broken down into a smooth puree. This can take up to an hour.

  5. Can also be prepared in a crockpot - cook on low for 8 hours.
