chili con carne

Makes 8 servings

basic chili recipe (1 serving equals about 2 cups)

Ingredients
2 lb ground beef
2 onions
1 green pepper
4 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp garlic
2 tsp cumin
2 tsp red pepper flakes, crushed
2 1/2 cups tin kidney beans, rinsed (1 19 oz. tin)
7 cups canned tomatoes (2 28 oz. tins)
Directions
  1. brown ground beef and remove the fat

  2. add onions and peppers and stir until softened a bit

  3. Add spices and tomatoes including juice

  4. rinse beans and add to the pot

  5. cook over low heat for about an hour to combine flavours
