| 1/2 | cup shortening |
| 2 | cups sugar |
| 4 | egg yolks |
| 2 | oz (2 squares) unsweetened chocolate |
| 2 | cups cake flour |
| 1 | tsp cinnamon |
| 1/4 | tsp cloves |
| 2 | tsp baking powder |
| 1 | cup milk |
| 4 | egg whites |
| 1/8 | tsp salt |
- Cream shortening and sugar, then beat in egg yolks one at a time.
- Add flour, cinnamon, cloves, chocolate and baking powder.
- Add milk and fold in egg whites.
- Bake at 375 degrees F, in two greased 9 inch cake pans or in a tube pan, for approximately 25-30 min or until done.
