From the Agawam Diner. I found the recipe in a recent issue of Saveur. They say in the description that it's similiar to American Chili Mac.
| 2 1/2 | tbsp. extra virgin olive oil |
| 4 | tbsp. butter |
| 1 | medium onion, finely chopped |
| 1 | medium green pepper, finely chopped |
| 1 | lbs. lean ground beef |
| 2 | tsp garlic powder |
| 2 | tsp onion powder |
| 1 | tsp paprika |
| 1/2 | tsp crushed red pepper flakes |
| 1 | tsp salt |
| 1 | tbsp pepper |
| 28 | oz whole peeled tomatoes (unflavored) |
| 30 | oz tomato sauce (unflavored) |
| 2 | tsp sugar |
| 1/8 | tsp ground cinnamon |
| 1 | lbs. dried elbow macaroni (about 500 grams) |
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add onion and green pepper and cook until softened.
- Add ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika and crushed red pepper flakes.
- Add peeled tomatoes (with its own juice) and crush tomatoes in your hands. Add tomato sauce, sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Simmer for 45 minutes. Sauce will thicken.
- In the meantime, cook elbow macaroni. Toss into sauce and cook an additional 10 minutes.
- Enjoy!
