Part of a nutritious lunch
| 1 1/2 | tsp yeast |
| 1 | tbsp warm water |
| 2/3 | c skim milk |
| 4 | tsp sugar |
| 2 | tsp canola oil |
| 1 | tsp salt |
| 1 | c whole wheat flour |
| 1 | c all-purpose flour |
| 1/4 | c wheat germ |
| 1 | egg |
| 1/3 | c skim milk powder |
| 1 | tsp Italian seasoning |
| 1/2 | tsp onion powder |
| 1/4 | tsp garlic powder |
- mix yeast with water.
- heat milk, sugar, oil, and salt until 115 to 120°F.
- put milk mixture in a bowl, stir in the wheat germ, egg, milk powder and seasonings, beating well.
- add the activated yeast, stir till smooth
- stir in the whole wheat flour and as much of the white flour as you can with a spoon
- put dough on a floured surface and knead in remaining flour
- knead until smooth and elastic
- place in a lightly greased bowl turning once to grease the surface
- cover and let rise for 1 1/4 hr.
- punch dough down and place on a floured surface, divide dough in half shape into a ball
- grease a 8x4x2 baking pan, shape ball into loaf and place in pans
- cover and let rise for 45-60 min
- if desired, brush loaf with melted butter
- bake in a 375°F oven for about 30 min until done
