Bread Four Recipe

Part of a nutritious lunch

Ingredients
1 1/2 tsp yeast
1 tbsp warm water
2/3 c skim milk
4 tsp sugar
2 tsp canola oil
1 tsp salt
1 c whole wheat flour
1 c all-purpose flour
1/4 c wheat germ
1 egg
1/3 c skim milk powder
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Directions
  1. mix yeast with water.

  2. heat milk, sugar, oil, and salt until 115 to 120°F.

  3. put milk mixture in a bowl, stir in the wheat germ, egg, milk powder and seasonings, beating well.

  4. add the activated yeast, stir till smooth

  5. stir in the whole wheat flour and as much of the white flour as you can with a spoon

  6. put dough on a floured surface and knead in remaining flour

  7. knead until smooth and elastic

  8. place in a lightly greased bowl turning once to grease the surface

  9. cover and let rise for 1 1/4 hr.

  10. punch dough down and place on a floured surface, divide dough in half shape into a ball

  11. grease a 8x4x2 baking pan, shape ball into loaf and place in pans

  12. cover and let rise for 45-60 min

  13. if desired, brush loaf with melted butter

  14. bake in a 375°F oven for about 30 min until done
