Submitted by digdig

Makes 24 servings

Replacing half of the butter with applesauce makes these brownies moist and fudgy without too much of the fat in regular brownies! Add nuts if desired.

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup chocolate chips
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Melt the butter in medium-sized bowl.

  3. Add the ingredients in order and place in a greased 9x13 pan.

  4. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes. If using an 8x8 pan, expect baking time to be around 40 to 50 minutes.

  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve!
