Makes 16 servings

Goes really well with smothered pork and dahl

Ingredients
1 c Flour
2 1/4 t Yeast, dry
2 t Salt
1 c Water, hot
1 c Buttermilk -- or yogurt
1 Egg, Whole -- (room temp)
2 T Oil
1 T Honey -- or sugar
2 1/2 c Flour
4 T Butter - With Salt -- Ghee -- (clarified butter)
Directions
  1. * If desired, you can use cornmeal or sesame or poppy

  2. seeds on the bread. Combine 1 cup flour, yeast, and

  3. salt in a mixing bowl. Stir in water, buttermilk,

  4. egg, oil and honey. Beat until smooth with an electric

  5. mixer. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft,

  6. sticky dough. Turn onto a floured surface, continue to

  7. work in flour until dough is stiff enough to knead.

  8. Knead until smooth and elastic, but still soft (3 to 5

  9. minutes). Place in an oiled bowl; turning once to coat

  10. top of dough. Cover; let rise until double in bulk

  11. (about 45 minutes). Punch dough down. Shape into 16

  12. equal balls. Let rest 5 minutes. Roll out each ball

  13. to a 1/4-inch thick round. If desired, brush with

  14. melted butter and sprinkle with garnishes. Set on

  15. baking sheets. Bake at 450 degrees F. for 5 to 8

  16. minutes. NOTE: There is no second rising in this

  17. recipe so that you get flat loaves.
