From my mother's recipe book.
| 2 | c all-purpose flour |
| 1/3 | c unsweetened cocoa |
| 1/3 | c packed brown sugar |
| 2 | tsp baking powder |
| 3/4 | tsp baking soda |
| 1/8 | tsp salt |
| 1/2 | c butter |
| 1 | egg yolk |
| 1/2 | c sour cream |
| 1/2 | c semisweet chocolate chips (miniature) |
| 1 | c powdered sugar, sifted |
| 1 | tbsp melted butter |
| 1 | tsp 2% milk |
| 1 | tsp vanilla |
- In a large bowl, stir flour, cocoa, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Using a pastry blender (or food processor), cut in butter until you have coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- In a separate bowl, combine egg yolk and sour cream. Stir in chocolate chips. Add to dry ingredients and stir until just moistened.
- On a lightly floured surface, knead dough 10-12 times. Pat into a 9-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges.
- Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 375F for 18 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Cool in pan 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and milk. Drizzle over hot scones. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.
- Note: You may substitute equal amount of plain yogurt for the sour cream.
