Makes 16 servings

From my mother's recipe book.

Ingredients
2 c all-purpose flour
1/3 c unsweetened cocoa
1/3 c packed brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 c butter
1 egg yolk
1/2 c sour cream
1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips (miniature)
1 c powdered sugar, sifted
1 tbsp melted butter
1 tsp 2% milk
1 tsp vanilla
Directions
  1. In a large bowl, stir flour, cocoa, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  2. Using a pastry blender (or food processor), cut in butter until you have coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and set aside.

  3. Preheat oven to 375F.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine egg yolk and sour cream. Stir in chocolate chips. Add to dry ingredients and stir until just moistened.

  5. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough 10-12 times. Pat into a 9-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges.

  6. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 375F for 18 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Cool in pan 5 minutes.

  7. In a bowl, combine powdered sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and milk. Drizzle over hot scones. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

  8. Note: You may substitute equal amount of plain yogurt for the sour cream.
