Red Beans and Rice (Ada) Recipe

If you're vegetarian, try this recipe without the sausage. From the American Diabetes Association. cooking spray, smoked turkey sausage, onion, green bell pepper, garlic, canned kidney beans,cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, water, brown rice cvt

Ingredients
1 cooking spray
14 oz lean, smoked turkey sausage, sliced (7927)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
32 ounces canned red kidney beans,undrained (16034)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cup water
1 cup uncooked brown rice
Directions
  1. In a large saucepan coated with cooking spray, sauté sausage for 5 minutes over medium-high heat. Add onion and green pepper and sauté another 5 minutes. Add garlic and sauté 30 seconds.

  2. Stir in beans, pepper, cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and water over medium-high heat.

  3. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 25 minutes.

  4. Add brown rice, cover, and simmer another 35 minutes.
