Italian Custard and Berries

Submitted by gandv

Makes 4 servings

In place of Marsala, you can try sherry or other flavored liqueur such as Amaretto

Ingredients
2 tbsp granulated sugar
2 tsp cornstarch
3/4 c. 1% milk
1/2 c. egg beaters
1/4 c. fat-free sour cream
2 tbsp marsala
2 c fresh strawberries
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions
  1. In a small heavy saucepan, whist together sugar and cornstarch. Then stir in the milk.

  2. Place over medium heat to cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes or until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat. Pour the egg into a large bowl. Gradually pour in about half of the hot liquid, stirring constantly. Return the mixture to the saucepan. Cook until nearly boiling, but do not allow it to boil.

  3. Pour into a serving bowl and stir in the sour cream and Marsala. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours before serving. Divide the berries among 4 individual dessert dishes, and spoon the custard over the berries. Sprinkle tops with cinnamon.
