100+ Pounds to Lose---we can do it!! Monday weigh ins. (start 1/7/08)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey Everyone,

Well, here is it, a new challenge for those looking to lose 100+ pounds.  I would like for everyone who is a first time poster to give a little introduction of themselves (include height, weight, age and anything else you would like)!

I'm hoping that this challenge can not only look at how we're doing in terms of numbers, but serve as a way to motivate eachother.  If you had an extremely challenging week, let us know.  If you found an awesome exercise or healthy snack food, let us know.  If you have anything, good or bad, that helped (or hurt) your weight loss (and overall health for the week), let us know!!

I'm figuring the weekly template can be something like:

Starting weight/date: XXXXX lbs XXXXXX (for me, 298 lbs 12/18/07)

Weight last weight in: XXXXXX lbs

Weight this week: XXXXXX lbs

and then list challenges, good, bad, etc. afterwards.

I would love to say I would do points and keep a tally, but honestly, I know it will be tough to keep up with everyone's TERRIFIC progress!! Hopefully we can all take a look at this and celebrate everyone's successes together.

Our first weigh in will be January 7, 2008.  Feel free to join whenever you like and give your introduction :-)

Let's do this together!!!

:-)

Congratulations to you all who lost weight.  Unfortunately, I seem to have found it.  Saturday and Sunday, I was hungry non-stop.  Part of it is that I tend to eat very little in the first part of the day, then more than make up for it later.  When I'm tired it seems like so much trouble to make something, but I always regret it when I wait.  Other than that, things are pretty good.

Thanks,

Valerie

I gained also this week :(

Obstacles - the biggest obstacle for me generally is the weekend. I tend to eat out of boredom and not healthy items either. This weekend I really planned to be out of the house as much as possible. The other obstacle we met up with some friends and had a potluck. We brought something reasonable, but its always a question as to what the other couples would bring...but it worked out fine.

I haven't found an exercise program yet, or at least I haven't incorporated one into my schedule. So last week my goal was to get in as much extra exercise just by getting up and moving around more at the office. So I climbed the stairs every other day, had a regular glass of water on my desk rather than a big one forcing me to walk to the breakroom, took the long route to the restroom...so all the extra walking paid off. Sometime last year I had purchased a nice pedometer, so today I'm going to walk my normal extra walking to find out a base of how many steps or miles I walk by the end of the day and then set a goal of double that amount to reach daily for the rest of the week.

Starting weight/date: 246 lbs 01/08/08

Weight last weight in: 239.6 lbs 01/21/08

Weight this week: 239.8 lbs 01/28/08

Okay so this week was a bad one for me, lol - lots of cheating :-(   Chicken and spinach ravioli on Tuesday for a coworker's birthday lunch, then penne in a vodka sauce on Saturday when we went to a friend's house, and chinese food on Sunday... ACK!   At least I managed to counteract the gain with exercise, so I was only set back .2 lbs.  And my boyfriend gave me some surprisingly good news - a friend of his wants to get rid of his old elliptical machine because it's taking up too much space in his new apartment, so we're getting a $300 machine for $25 and the effort of moving it, haha!

Oh dear. I have an unhappy report this week:

Starting weight: 280
Starting weight this thread: 233
Last week: 228

This week: 236.5!

I am holding a gallon of water inside me! I don't know what's going on, but this has never happened before. I've been drinking a decent amount of water each day, and eating as I normally eat. Something very strange is going on. :-( TOM was last week, but it's over, so I can't even blame it on that.

Woo hoo!  I have lost amost 15 pounds!  Yay!

Lots of new people (WELCOME!!!) and some great losses (Congrats!) this past week.  January is almost over!  Where did it go????  Can't belive I haven't posted for a whole week...

No loss, but also no gain.  I'm still at 299.

I had a business trip Tuesday through Thursday, and then I ate horribly this weekend (did quite well on the business trip though, and I had been very nervous about that).  This weekend was no different than what I would have eaten before, and I felt horrible!  Felt kind of strange to be happy about not feeling well, but I kept focusing on how my body is getting used to the idea of not eating tons of junk.  Now if I could just start feeling like that when I don't exercise...

Hi, I'm Tina  - can I join the challenge?

I am working to lose 120 lbs and live a healthier, more balanced life.

I started at 305 (yikes!) in September '07.  My overall goal is to weigh 185 lbs (read my profile to find out why - LOL!)

I reached my first (10%) mini-goal at 274 lbs on 12/28/07.

My next mini-goal (next 10%) is to weigh 245 lbs by May 31, 2008.

Weight on New Year's Day - 1/1/08: 272

Weight three weeks ago - 1/7:  267

Weight two weeks ago - 1/14:  269   (TTOM)

Weight last week - 1/21:  264.5

Weight today - 1/28:  263 lbs

Total loss so far:  42 lbs out of 60 by 5/31/08

When I reach 245 lbs, I'll decide on the time frame for my next mini-goal.  I was weighing every day, but that started making me a little crazy.  I decided to try weighing once a week so I went searching for a compatible group of buddies and ended up here!

I am so excited to be part of this group!  I wish you all success on your journey!

You guys are doing so great!! I'm so excited for each and every one of you!! Now, my turn...

Starting weight: 329.2

Weight this week: 316.0

This week was not the greatest. The weekend was actually the hardest. Sometimes I can't find time to log my foods, let alone exercise. Between working full time and going to Graduate school, sometimes I'm not sure I can do this. How do you guys make sure you all find the time to exercise? Any tips on making time? My issue is finally coming home late at night and wanting to get right into bed....ahhh. Next week WILL be better. It HAS to be!! :)

Januaryld, I am trying to find that balance as well.  Did you take the eating quiz here on CC?  It said that I have time management issues, which is why I do not find time to eat the right foods or exercise.  I am also in school (5 classes til graduation), work full time, along with 3 kids (4 if you count my husband:).  Trying to find time to do laundry is difficult, so how could I get to the gym?  Well, I decided to make my housework my gym.  I carry the baskets of clean and dirty clothes, up and down the steps (before, I would just yell to the kids to get the clothes).  On Sunday's I prep and cook most of my dinners for the week and freeze them.  While doing so, I blast the music and make a point of stepping to each beat. Whether it is walking to the fridge or cutting onions.  I keep my body in constant motion.  Sometimes when I am sitting and watching television, I will do 10 crunches during a commercial or pick up my 3lb weights and do a few arm exercises. I sit at a desk at my job.  However, I make it a point to get up for 10 minutes every two hours to walk to the first floor and walk back to the third.

I was told the whole point is to up your activity level.  I don't think it really matters how you do it.

We can do this.  It doesn't happen overnight, don't worry you will find your path.  Just stay committed.

Hey everyone, Just wanted to say Hi and welcome to all the newbies!  Feel free to jump right on in!

January- I know when I was finishing my degree and working full time I didn't get home until after 10 sometimes, but even then I MADE myself go to the gym for about a 1/2 minimum.  It was a lot easier for me to find time BEFORE work though.  I got up at 4:45am 4 times a week and did cardio for an hour and then home to shower and off to work....

Before I had a gym membership I did work out videos late at night and then showered and went to bed.  It was almost relaxing knowing that I got my work out in and I was all lose and on an endorphin high which helped me have good solid sleep =)

But that is just me...You just need to find what works best for you. It is SUPER hard to find that balance, but even if you split your exercise up into 20 minutes spurts 4 times a day, maybe before work, at lunch, right after work, and then after class? Even if it means parking really far from your work and walking or eating a wrap at lunch while you are strolling the block.  It took me months to figure out how to fit it in, but if its important, then you will!

I have faith that you will work through it! And if you can't find time to exercise just really focus on your healthy diet and you will still lose!

It gets easier, trust me! You will have some ups and downs, but in the end it will all be worth it!

Hang in there January!

Knitchick, good job on recognizing how your eating habits made you feel! Sometimes we are so oblivious to that and it makes a huge difference! Now you can take that feeling and use it as fuel to work at not feeling that way anymore :)

Groupie you made me hungry with all that food talk! YUM!

Way to go everyone else on their successes, keep up all the hard work! Did anyone take any "before" pictures? I haven't really since I started, and I am hesitant now because I have lost 20 pounds already, but I guess I will still see a difference since I wil be 100 pounds lighter when all is said and done! What do you all think?

Hi! I'm Kea, and I'm new here - about a week. I need to lose 150 lbs (lost 5 already! (due to a stomach virus, but I'll take it)

Starting weight/date: 285 lbs 01/15/07

Weight last weight in: 280 lbs

Weight this week: 280 lbs

Challenges:

  • figuring out how to count calories
  • plan menus around calories
  • measuring portions outside of home
  • finding others who like me even though I'm fat

Hi Kea! Welcome to our group! I think those challenges are something we have all dealt with and still deal with! We hope to break through those challenges here and now! So I hope you find some support or inspiration from this group, I know I have!

Hey everybody...This is a book that I swear by! I call it my Bible since I read and refer to it so much.  It really has some great options and information in it on how to eat healthy and how to shop for the right foods...Hope you enjoy!

Oh, and it's on sale on Barnes and Noble's website right now for only $3.99!

 Good Housekeeping's The Supermarket Diet....

Its awesome! Let me know if you have a chance or already know about this book and what you think :)

Welcome Kea, hope you get as much out of cc as I do.

Last weigh in 240   ??? This is how much I weighed before I started staying away from the scale. eeeeekk.

Starting weight on cc 227.50 1/23/08

Weight this week 226.25 1/30/08

My biggest challenge this past week has been pm snacking which I have really struggled with. Still fighting it every step of the way.

Haven't tried tea or anything but I am going to. Hope that it helps.

I just want you all to know that I am proof this can be done. 100+ pounds may seem so huge, but the time sure does fly. I calorie counted for 16 months (mind you even at maintenance I still keep a running total) and went from 294 pounds to 125-129 pounds (i'm 5'5). Yes, it takes time, and yes, it takes tons of dedication, but it can be done. My total loss is 167 pounds.

This becomes life, your body re-learns what health is.. and it's an awesome journey we go through. Nobody will ever understand what it's like to be 100+ pounds over weight and lose it, unless they go through it.

I've been there. If anyone ever needs support, or just someone to talk to, i'm always here.

Health isn't just about diet and exercise, but also about your mental well being. Be happy! and make your dietary changes things you can be happy with.
