We share a long journey
January 1, 2009 is coming!
What progress we'll make!

Reason: **EDIT: Updated members
I gained a pound... what the hell? Im crushed right now! I dont unsterstand how I could gain with all the excersize Im doing and only eating what im soposed to, no cheating. This just makes me think its impossible to lose. Awwww man.. After last week I was sure it was gonna be another good one. I dont know what to do now. Drop the cals back down or stick with this and hope it starts working... Im so disapointed in myself and I dont feel like I should be.. This sucks..
EDIT
Its been a few hours and I feel a little bit better but everytime I walk by the scale I curse at it lol. Just got back from the gym and ran longer than normal. I fealt like quitting this morning. But Im gonna stay on it and hopefully next weeks weigh in will make up for this crappy one. Im gonna drop the cals down to 1600-1900 a day like I did last week, keep up with the excersize and have another good week. However Im getting very muscular. Incresing the weight in every lift excersize I do. My calves, chest, and arms are getting huge. My clothes are looser than ever and my face & waist are very thin looking. So Im doing something right. Trying to look at the positives. A week from now seems so long to wait and see if this is gonna work. I see why people weigh daily, but I think Id be even more obsessive about it if I did.
Keep up the goodwork my people...
I know it will be temporary and off I'll go again losing but yeah, not looking forward to it exactly. I got spoiled with regular losses. I just need to look long term when I have to lower my calories because my weight continues dropping so I cant be that low already.
Hang in there Jack - good things are coming but feel free to give you scale a nice kick :P
I'll share this as it helped me get my act back together this week. Back in August, I ran into a woman that was nice and attractive. We had a nice little conversation about accents. The truth is she really needed to lose about 40-50 pounds to look her best. She was fun to talk with, happy and pretty confident - not the sort of person to take a back seat to anyone.
This week I ran into her again. I didn't recongize this person - hold that thought. We chatted a little bit and ended up talking about accents. She remember me from back in August. She'd lost the 50 pounds and went from attractive to goddess. I was stunned at how much difference 50 pounds made. She said folks that hadn't seen her since taking the weight off didn't reconize her.
Now while the looking better part is cool and all of that, the REAL difference I could see in her was she was so much happier and confident, dare I say radiant - and that's what really showed.
Reading about how weight loss makes life better is one thing, but getting to meet and see someone who had worked very hard at it and got results - just seeing how much difference it made in a happy well adjusted person...made me really want to get my next 100 pounds off!
Good Luck everyone!
I've just been reading your posts and thought I would introduce myself. At 28, I have hit my heaviest. I weighed on one scale over the weekend and came up with 306.5. On the other scale, I weighed 295. I would say it is a pretty safe bet that I am right at 300 pounds right now.
I have been chubby since childhood. At 5'0'' and 120 pounds, I was the largest child in the 3rd grade. I grew to an adult height of 5'11'' and at 19 I hit 245 pounds. At that time I decided that I needed to make a change and got down to 185, which is thin for me. I was running 2 or 3 miles each day, lifting weights, and playing sports all the time.
I maintained that loss for a couple of years but as soon as I graduated from college and got into a high-stress, 50 to 70 hours a week job, the pounds have just piled on. So now, six years later, not only did I gain back those 60 pounds I lost, but an additional 55.
So here I am. I am sick and tired of being tired and fat. I just got back from walking two miles in this lovely 20 degree, wind chill of 10 weather. I am determined to get my life back. I had cereal and fruit for breakfast. I am bound and determined that I am going to succeed this time.
Sorry to be so long winded, but you guys seem to have a pretty good community here and I would love to have something to turn to for support other than my 125 pound friends if you know what I mean. I mean, they just don't understand.
Great story Train! So many people dont know how heavy Ive gotten as Id become reclusive but one thing I look forward to is visiting with old coworkers not to brag but because I know they will be happy for me. When weight becomes such a factor in our lives, just knowing the peace of mind that comes from getting in shape and not dealing with the struggles of obesity.
Came in at 358, a pound heavier. Im not concerned - eating well and have upped my calories as they were way too low but willing to wait it out as I adjust. Its still all healthy food and within a weight loss calorie range but I wasnt doing myself any favors low cal as I was considering thats a calorie level I'll need to be able to lose weight at in the 200s. Hoping for better things next Thursday and still have this months progress.
ONE WEEK TIL FEBRUARY 1st WEIGH IN !!
Changing the original post to say count down to Jan1 2009 since we will be weighing in the 1st of each month anyway.
As you know, my official weigh-in days are on Saturdays or Sundays ... and this week I selected Saturday and that's the official weight that I record for me. Though my weight loss to date in January has been slower than in previous months, it's still remaining reasonably steady and at a healthy pace ... which will be a nice prelude for February (which has been designated a "Maintenance Month") since I will be out of town for more than 14 days. (Don't worry, I still plan to do my very best to stay on track while out of town!) Anyway ... this week's results show a loss ... and a loss ALWAYS equals a good week, right?
And on a related note, I achieved my exercise goals for every week in January (90 minutes of cardio per week), so starting Monday that increases to 120 minutes of cardio per week for February! (I also work with some weights, too.)
STARTING WEIGHT: 369
CURRENT WEIGHT: 290.8
WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: 2.2 pounds
WEIGHT LOST TO DATE: 78.2 pounds
PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST (of starting weight): 21.1%
WEEKS OF DIETING: 23 weeks
SPECIAL COMMENTS: Started thyroid medication today for under-active thyroid.
NEXT GOAL: 289 = 80 pounds lost
Original Post by mollymouser:It is so depressing to me that you have lost 17 pounds this month SO FAR, over 2 pounds this week, and that this is a slow rate of weight loss that you are having to get used to... I have been working really hard this month and doing an hour of cardio almost every day and have only lost 6 pounds! So stop saying how slow you are losing when you are obviously doing GREAT!... Though my weight loss to date in January has been slower than in previous months, it's still remaining reasonably steady and at a healthy pace ...
WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: 2.2 pounds
I haven't lost 17 pounds in January.... I've lost 10.6 pounds (and it's a 5-week month, too!) (I had to go back to my weight log to be sure of the math since it's 2am!)
Dec 30 weigh in 299.0 lost for the week 2.4 - lost to date 70.0
Jan 05 weigh in 297.4 lost for the week 1.6 - lost to date 71.6
Jan 12 weigh in 295.2 lost for the week 2.2 - lost to date 73.8
Jan 20 weigh in 293.0 lost for the week 2.2 - lost to date 76.0Jan 26 weigh in 290.8 lost for the week 2.2 - lost to date 78.2
This is a weight loss slow-down for me ... because for Sept-Oct-Nov-Dec, I was averaging a 3.5 pound per week loss ... and now it's settled down to almost exactly 2.0 pounds per week, on average... a reduction of more than 30%.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...Can I get a little love here?
If I may make a suggestion...go to bed and get some sleep, Y'all. Testy, testy, testy!
Feel happy for all with good weeks - if Im having a lousy one, I can live vicarously through others' victories. Could not wait til Feb 1st and not cant believe its coming this week. Yikers!
Starting weight: 319 lbs (June 2007)
Today's weight: 246.2 lbs (January 27th, 2008)
= 72.8 lbs lost so far
I am still eating the same amount of calories I was when I was over 300 lbs and continue to lose (1829 calorie per day on AVERAGE). I am increasing my exercise and continuing strength training but I think it's important to NOT under-eat as it slows down your metabolism and your body starts running more efficiently. That's why I am going to keep my metabolism optimized by eating close to my maintenance calories. When I'm at my goal, I'll probably be able to maintain closer to 2000-2200 calories if I stay very active.
The key to weight loss is to keep your metabolism stoked and by eating less and less, you slow it down. So as long as what you are doing is working, don't make any changes. And if anything, before lowering calories, increase your exercise.
Original Post by denise07:
Sorry Molly - I thought your Jan08 start weight here said 307, I must have read the wrong line. But still, you are doing so wonderful and making such good, steady (and yes, FAST) progress! I wasn't trying to criticize you but just meant that you should be very proud of how well you are doing!
I'm sorry if I sounded testy, grouchy, cranky, rude or twitlike.
