Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club toniahayes
  May 30 2007 23:53
I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". .  I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years.  Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).

I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons.  I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably.  I may want to go on to a size 6 next.

I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated.  Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.

Let me know if you are out there and interested.

well, how was the tri, dievans?????  I was thinking about you all morning.

trixitrix - I too, am going out for dinner tonight....... eat your salad slowly, and drink at least 3 glasses of water....... I am going to try and stay away from the rolls!!

toniahayes - I get lup really early and do my workouts before it gets too warm.  I also belong to three different gyms, so the air conditioning helps.

BTW, I did my 9.6 miles!!!  Of course I had to get right on the scale, and it was 137!!!!! You have no idea how happy this makes me right now.  I know it's sort of a "false" reading, but one pound at a time is all I ask for, and with you guys helping, it's really working.  Thank you all for letting me vent, rant, rave and share.......... nice to know I am not as obsessed as I thought!!

Have a great night everyone, see you tomorrow!

Di, Didn't get to respond to your post about nerves.  What I would have said is what someone told me and that is:  You've trained and prepared; now just go out and have fun.   Try not to let anything that happens on race day ruffle you.

Amy, It is so great to read your posts about the 140 mark since my next goal is to see the scale drop below that mark.

I appreciate everyone's posts... I'm going to go back today and read all of them to get myself motivatied and back on track.  I had a great week of workouts and the first couple of days of the week, my calorie tracking was great.

I don't know if it is because of the heat, but around Thrusday I started craving salty snacks.  I stood in the kitchen snacking several times without counting the calories.  I'm up on the scale and I want to get back on track. Last night I made Margaritas (I've only done this about 3 times in the last 22 years) What's up with that!  I was really craving the salty, sour taste.  Does anyone know why I might be craving this stuff? This is where I usually blow all of my great efforts to shed that 10 lbs.  I also ate out more than usual this week.

Okay, that's my confession.  Now, to get back on track:

Today, June 24th:  1400 Calories; Rest day, as far as workout goes.  Biggest challenge: Making wise choices since my son wants to eat out and I'm not doing my own cooking.  Also, getting back on track with calories, water etc.

Monday, June 25th: 1500 calories; Aerobics class.  Greatest Challenge:  not being discouraged by the scale.

P.S.

Btw, how do I get in to look at the pictures?   I tried to put mine in my profile but something happened.  Also, to tell you a little about myself:

I am 45; Married 22 years; I have a 21 yr old son and a 16 yr old son.  I live in Florida.  I work at home with my husband and my own business.  Also, I am taking a design course and I am going to take a course to become a Personal Trainer in the next 6 month. I love the water; tennis; biking; and reading.  Running in races and Triathlons have become a hobby in the last couple of years.  As for Spiritual life, I am a Christian.  Hope this helps you all to know me a little better.

Tonia,

salty foods........ do you log your calories?  Do you know how much sodium you take in on a daily basis?

2 suggestions/comments (whatever you call them~~ my 2 cents)

1.  check your water intake vs. your salt intake,  you might be (dare I say it) a little toooo much water, and it is depleting your salt stores...

2. If you ate out a lot this week, you undoubtedly consumed more salt than you would normally consume, so you body grew"accustomed" to it, and therefore craved it.  I have craved nuts and fish before, and don't know why, but your body is trying to tell you something.  Check on the water thing first.  If you are eating a lot of high water foods (celery, carrots, cucumbers, melon, salad, etc) and also drinking a lot because of the hot day.... well, it's something to consider.

Margaritias~~~ yum~  I get on those kicks sometimes in the summer.  Invite me over so you would have to drink the whole pitcher alone!

BTW, It was Thursday when I fell off the wagon this week also.  Could be just a stressful/busy week.

why are you not doing my own cooking?

Is there something wrong?  Are you okay?

If you don't have a good day today, don't get on the scale tomorrow, wait until Wednesday...

Have a super day!

I love summer drinks - margaritas, sangria, mojitos - they're so festive.  And not good for you, unfortunately!

I am like you, tonia, in your sweet/salty cravings cycle.  Maybe it's the season?  Anyway, I hope you're not feeling too discouraged lately.  Don't forget you have a whole cheerleading squad behind you on this forum!

Amyb, thanks for reminding me to drink water last night.  Even though I did go over my calorie goals, it would have been a lot worse if I didn't pay attention to eating slowly, drinking water, and avoiding the rolls!

Report for Saturday:  went over calorie goals (but not by as much as I could have, so huzzah), only worked out once and did not do pushups.  Meh.

Goal for Sunday:  1300 calories and 2 workouts (already did a long hike today - the dog was more tired than usual at the end so that's a good sign) and get back on track with the pushups!

Biggest obstacle:  The husband is barbecuing for friends tonight.  So....limit beers, limit barbecue, and make sure to eat a lot of vegetables and drink a lot of water.

I forgot to say:  GOOD JOB EVERYONE!  I don't want to get too sentimental, but I'm so glad to be part of such a supportive forum.  Hope to hear from eugrrrlll, mcpchants, meltydawne, mOnster2, and all the rest of you great ladies soon.

And I hope the tri went well, dievans!  It's so great that you did that.

Hi everyone!

Well, the triathlon was this morning.  I met my group at 5:30AM and we drove to York, PA (about an hour drive), the transition area opened at 6:30 and I got to set up on an end spot, and then I had about an hour to wait.  I have to tell you, I was nervous and I have no idea why.  I trained thoroughly and felt well prepared.  There were 178 women who competed, ages 14 to 77 and I came in 32nd!  I was so proud of myself.  My total time was 1:40:52.  My goal was to finish in under 2 hours and I did!

Congratulations for keeping up with the posts even when you fall off the wagon.  Sometimes I think I fall off on Thursday because, well, I weighed in on Wednesday.

Amyb! 9.6 miles!  That is fabulous.  I would like to increase my mileage to train for a half marathon on Sept 2, but some of the ladies are talking about doing another sprint tri on Aug 12.  Will see.

Tonia,

Thanks for all your support.  I think reading over the posts is a great idea.  My goal for today is to rehydrate.  I am still 3 pounds below my weight this morning.  I really sweat, so I know I need to keep drinking.

Good luck everyone,

Di

Thanks for the support, everyone.  I feel better.  One of the things I figured I did wrong last week was not going grocery shopping and having good things on hand to grab when I was hungry.  The only thing quickly available around the house was salty stuff.  It also made it easy to say "yes" to eating out.

Today, I cut up a bunch of vegi's and put them in a tray, I cut up a watermelon and I made some bl/sl chicken breast.

Thanks for the suggestions concerning the water, etc and the encouragement, it was helpful.

Yippee for Dievans!!!  I am so proud of you!! What a great placement in the race!! You are awesome.  I am so happy to hear about  your training plans on our forum and to see it all pay off.  I do hope you will rest this week and let your body recover.

Thanks everyone for being there for me...

Highest regards,

Toniahayes

Good morning everyone!

Goals for today are to stay within 1350 calories and do active recovery.  I just came back from a BodyStep class and added extra stretching at the end.  The rest of the day, I think I will just putt around and get household chores finished up.

Thanks for all of your support.  It is almost overwhelming. As far as the summer drinks go, maybe we should try to create one that is not quite so unhealthy and still fun.  Let's get those blenders rolling.  We could start with ice and  fresh fruit and go from there.

Good luck!

Di

Good job dievans!!! Congratulations!

I didn't eat so well this weekend, well actually, I ate healthy but more than my calorie goals.

Saturday I had a family thing on Saturday which equals lots of wine and lots of food!

Sunday I had a bachelorette party and a fondue before going. Good thing about the fondue is that it was fruit with chocolate fondue and I only had one drink because I was driving home. We also danced all night and that is good exercise!

On the plus side, I did a workout on Saturday, and a mini workout on Sunday. Oh, and Friday night we went swimming and helped friends move. So that could be considered exercise right?!

Good job everyone, we are doing well. Even when we think we aren't, we are better than alot of people.

I also think that it's ok to have some days where you're not counting and just enjoying yourself. We all need that from time to time. Right now it's my time of the month so i've also had cravings! Just keep in mind that you are not alone!

Thank you ladies :)

Hi all -

Hey mcpchants - looks like you had a very challenging weekend.  And you are right to accentuate the positive.  It always helps to remember just how much you could have overeaten (but didn't).  And moving definitely counts as exercise!

Report for Sunday:  Got my workouts in (enough so I'm still a bit sore today - good sign); went slightly over in calories, but I'm not sweating it.

Goal for today:  2 workouts + pushups; 1400 calories.

Biggest challenge:  fitting exercise into what  is already a busy day.
#193 mcpchants Jun 25 2007 16:14
Forgot to mention -

Goal for today = 1200 calories

No exercise, I am exhausted. Got home at 2:30 a.m. last nigth from the bachelorette and had to get up at 6:30 a.m. I will be going to bed early tonight!
#194 borgesgreen Jun 25 2007 16:28
hi, I want to introduce myself. I'm 125 pounds now, at a plateau, and would ideally like to be 115....my BMI is a high 19/low 20.....I'm an apple shape, ugh.

goals: 1200 to 1500 calories a day

half hour of jogging plus one hour of walking five times a week

ten minutes of sit ups/pilates based exercises five times a week

weaknesses: weekends! a pizza addict boyfriend, beer, binging....I have a really hard time incorporating " just a little chocolate" or allowing myself " just a little ice cream"....when I'm following my diet (no refined sugar!) I don't even want the crap, but give me a little and suddenly I'm shoving everything in my mouth....yikes!

I know some good recipes too if anyone is interested!
#195 toniahayes Jun 26 2007 02:50
Hi everyone,

Di, I love the summer drink idea.  Let's do it! One of my favorites is to pour my favorite white wine over Frozen Mango & Frozen Pineapple.

MCpchants, Sounds like you stayed active over the weekend in spite of the fun, food events.  It's great that you stayed positive and didn't go as overboard as you could have.

Borgesgreen, Welcome.  The recipe ideas sound great.  Bring them on.  My favorite today was: steamed brown rice, with bl/sl chicken tossed with a 1 tsp of Truffle oil.  It's yummy!  I used to take it to work with me.

Trixitrix, thanks for being part my cheerleading team!

Monday, Today, June 25th: 1565 calories  (although I may have some blueberries and yogurt before bed.  I don't sleep well if I am hungry. It's 9:45 and  I still feel a little hungry). My exercise was 1:15 min of tri-exercise class .

Tomorrow, Tues., June 26th: Swim (am 600 meters); PM- walk/run 2- 3 miles (working out with someone who is just starting to run so I will cut back to her fitness level)

Greatest challenge:  movtivating myself to workout since it is a busy day for me.
#196 walker384 Jun 26 2007 03:12
I'm with you all. I weight 137 currently only after a 7 day detox to try to get rid of a nagging cough.  However, my normal weight is 140.  I've been trying to shed these last 10 lbs for about a year and a half.  I've reduced my calories from 1300 to 1100 no luck.  I believe that my body is conditioned to my activity level.  I run 3-5 miles daily and weight lift/condition 15 minutes daily. I've been doing this for the past 2-3 years.  I tell my hubby if someone who wasn't used to that type of activity and ate whatever they wanted burned the 600-80 calories daily that I do, they would drop lbs in weeks.

I agree with some of you.  I pray that this is not my body's set weight.  I'd love to finally comfortably fit into a size 6, ease out of those 8's and finally be that 130 lbs.  I will say I fumble horribly around that time of the month.  I have cravings like when I was pregnant.  I lose 2-3 and then gain it all back in one week PMS eating.

HELP!!!!!!
#197 amyb3517 Jun 26 2007 12:33
Hi all,

hope everyone has a great week.  I am off to try and rid the ***Toxins*** I drank last night and the night before.  I knew yesterday would be a cheat day, but I didn't think I would succumb to raspberry pie, store bought vanilla cake, and champange!  Yikes!

So, despite being a very busy SOCIAL week, I am going to put my best foot forward.  I am also lucky enough to have a short swing at work tonight, (work an afternoon shift and then go back tomorrow morning at 6 for a day shift) and then a short swing next week into MIDNIGHTS!! (work a day shift and then go back at 11p for midnights)(I am not being sarcastic, really...)

Keep up the good progress we are making.  I know we can do this.  A few more weeks.  (my wedding is 12 weeks from this Saturday..... anyone have a get-away car they are willing to drive in case I change my mind?????)
#198 trixitrix Jun 26 2007 16:47
Amyb, I do love "toxins."  Those particular toxins sounded absolutely delicious.  But don't go runaway bride on us - 12 weeks from now I don't want to see you on CNN with an afghan draped over your slimmed-down self! ;-)

Report for Monday:  Got 2 workouts in - woo hoo!  Also stayed within calorie intake.

Goal for Tuesday:  Calories - 1500; One workout + pushups.

Biggest challenge:  I'm feeling run down today so I don't want to push myself too much.  But I don't want to just forget about the program, esp. since tomorrow's weigh-in day!

#199 trixitrix Jun 26 2007 17:11
Hi there, walker384!  We've been doing double workouts 3 days a week (per amyb's advice) and I'm getting good results.

Tonia, your truffled chicken sounds really good. I'm going to try it.  Lately sweet peas have been in season and I've been snacking on them raw.  I just love cracking the pods open.
#200 rachelw Jun 26 2007 22:39
Hi all,

I just joined C-C a week ago and can't believe all this great accountability! I'm getting married on October 6 and joined C-C because i'm on a mission to lose all of the 18 pounds I've held on to for the last two years by the time the wedding comes around. I've lost 7 -- 11 more pounds will get me to my goal weight.

I'm limiting myself to 1200 calories a day, but it almost always gets up to 1300 or a *little* more. I'm climbing hills for an hour every day, doing circulation training and strength training -- I am not an active person, so this is new to me! Anything else i should be trying? I'm also very afraid of losing my cool and binging on the weekends. I love my carbs...
