You know you hear it all the time. "The older you get the harder it is to lose wieght." or "It will caught up to when hit your 30's" It is a well known fact that as your metabolism slows down. I've only been on this website 4 days and I have looked around some but didn't come across anything yet for some of us older ones trying to lose wieght! I was just on find your twin and noticed that mostly younger crowd signing in there. Couldn't go through 90 pages to find some my age. Thought I'd start a thread to find a buddy of similiar age and stats geared to motivate those of us with the Age challenge.
So here is mine
AGE: 45
Height 5'3 or 5'4 (been a while since I measured my self)
Wieight: 206lb
Build: Large (I think by the wrist test)
Weight Goal:135 -
Non Weight Goal - Working out 5 times a week doing at least 30-60 minutes of cardio or swimming and weights 2-3 times a week for 40 minutes,
Anyone out there that is similiar and would like to work at motivating each other!
Did my 4.4 miles again today! That's almost 4 1/2 miles 2 days in a row! YAY!! I sure hope I can get to the point of buying a little black dress for myself! Was down 1.2 pounds this morning. Motivation, or what?!?! lol
Hubby picked me up this morning! He was like "Wow, you're light!" Made me happy!
Hi all,
Feels like a long time since I stopped in. A lot of newbies -that's great!
momof2funykds -You go girl!! Keep up all that great work :)
axcejudge- I too had endo and had "the source" removed in April and I can say I feel pretty good now. Definitely was a good choice for me. (Still crave chocolate but not as urgently these days.)
I am over the vacation letdown and ready to get back into the groove. The yard needed much work and I was pleased to chart an activity that I can an immediate gratification. No more weeds :)
Not much progress to report - still hovering between 203 and 204 despite all the activity. I am hoping for a loss this week.
Got on a black bean and feta cheese kick for the past few weeks. I mix them in with a garden salad. Don't know if the salt is too high but the taste is great and we all love getting that fiber ![]()
Have a great weekend- Jen
Still 153 but that is okay "I guess"
Had a very active Saturday, running around after my 2 year old grandson, then swimming, doing the house stuff. I am sure I have burned some serious calories, this is probably my largest deficit. Hope I see it on the scale........
Enjoy the rest of the week-end.
Hi
Female age 43 weight 257. Started CC in june was 270. It sure is a struggle to loose weight for me.
My goal is 150, so yea a long road ahead of me. I can't work out to much due to medical issues. I do however try to ride my exercise bike every night.
Good luck to everyone
Hello everyone. Today is my first day here, and I have already learned so much, and still learning. Also, still having difficulty understanding BMR/RMR, etc., how many calories to eat, how many to burn, etc., however I am sure I will get the hang of it with help.
Just a little chuckle, I was so tired when I first came here and did the wrist test. I read it wrong and thought it read the "waist" test, and boy was that dissappointing. It wasn't til I saw the post above that I realized it said "wrist". I was thinking you've got to be kidding me, who has that small of a waist? What a relief.
Anyway, my goal is to lose around 20 pounds. Since I turned 40 I gained weight and can't seem to keep it off. I yo-yo, and I starve myself to death, but don't want to do that anymore. I want to get healthy, exercise more, and stop being so depressed, which probably has something to do with starving myself.
Anyway, I am glad I found this site and that there are people out there who can help.
Hello and Happy Sunday to All!
I hope you've all enjoyed your weekend so far. Welcome to all the newbies and good luck in your quest. This is a great site and this group of ladies are the tops!
Yay for you Tammy! When you get the new dress, you'll have to post a picture of you wearing it!
Cath, don't look at it like that, remember, when you got on the scale, it could have said you were 163, so instead of being disappointed that it didn't go down, be thankful that it didn't go up. Look at me being "Little Miss Positive"!
I had a great weekend so far, went to Manhattan on Friday after a four mile walk. It FINALLY stopped raining long enough to get in some exercise. In Manhattan we had sushi for dinner and went to see "The Dark Knight". Good movie, and I'm not really an action movie kinda girl. I snapped a couple of photos while in the city, I can't go to Manhattan without my camera...it probably drives the hubby crazy, but I adore taking photos.
Saturday was a lazy day, not much to speak of. I totally misbehaved...ate and drank too much! I made artichokes with Italian seasoning for an appetizer, and *Italian Chicken for dinner with cucumber and red onion salad, and hubby made the margaritas...and boy were they strong! The only things missing were the garlic bread and Frank Sinatra. ![]()
Today...no walk
it has rained non-stop! We even had hail!!! We were sitting together in our dining room doing our daily New York Times crossword puzzle and a bolt of lightening and clap of thunder struck so close to our window that it scared the you-know-what out of both of us! Oh well...there's nothing left to do but sit in front of the tv and watch the Red Bulls kick butt! (I hope!) LOL
*Italian Chicken
2 boneless/skinless chicken breasts
1 cup of fat free ricotta cheese
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 jar of chunky style pasta sauce
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
Cut a slit in the chicken, mix italian seasoning and garlic into ricotta cheese, then stuff cheese into the chicken. Spray a baking dish with pam and place chicken in pan and cover with pasta sauce. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and bake for 35-45 minutes in a 350 degree oven, or until chicken is done. Enjoy!
Firstly, welcome newbies... Please feel free to share so you are supported -- there is alot of mutual support in this group.
Secondly, I just have to say that summer colds ARE THE WORST!!! My husband gave it to me.. I thought I was impervious initially but NO...
I still managed a 1 1/2 hour run today before the cold got it's nasty little grips into me. I have been downing vitamin C - hoping that it will make a difference. I can't take any cold medicine at all so I am just stuck.
I also worked out on Saturday at the gym and did my New Rules of Weightlifting for Women -- it's getting easier so I have to figure out how to challenge myself. I really don't feel it today at all and when I first started I was sore. Not that bad but at least a bit tight.
My daughter has gone to visit friends in Sacramento and finally I will have a honeymoon after 2 years of marriage... But you can be sure we will be running every day. I am slated for a few 10K's in the next 3 months.
Hope everyone is doing well...
Welcome to the new people! Hope everyone has had a good weekend! :)
Weighed in and up a pound (of course!) but down 2 pounds from last sunday! WOO HOO!!!! As long as my range of ups and downs are in lower numbers, I'm good!
gaeliclass - If you need help, just ask. That's why we are all here. Once you get it, and understand it, you'll lose weight!
cawilder - summer colds are the worst! I agree with that! Hope you feel better quick! Enjoy the "honeymoon"! :)
Went dancing Saturday night. I now realize I need to wear an elastic knee brace on both knees - the arthritic one (w/brace) was fine, but the other one got sore! I don't care how it looks, as long as I can keep dancing!
Weigh-in: lost 1.5 pounds! Now down 9 total, almost 25% of my ultimate goal.
Now I'm listening to the thunder and rain. It's gonna be steamy tomorrow.
Well I thought I was doing good after hitting a plateau, I lost 3 pounds and dropped a pant size. Now I step on scale and I am back up. I am just hoping it is water weight from TTOM.
Anyway good luck to everyone and keep up the good work.........
axejudge.....I know how you feel about the knee brace. I have to wear one once in awhile. I have a clot in my leg along with bursitis. Sucks, but life goes on.
Hi Everybody,
Haven't had a chance to check in - have been swamped with work. But hope to read more of your blogs this weekend. Welcome to the new people! And congratulations to those who have lost weight!
Thank you Miss Bea
for the Italian Chicken recipe! Looks delicious - I can't wait to try it!
I love ricotta cheese. It's so good on whole grain bread with a sprinkle of cinnamon (or even nutmeg) mixed with Splenda and toasted in the oven. Learned that one in WW.
Take care and have a great week!
Cinzia ![]()
You are welcome for the recipe Cinzia. :) I'll have to tell Mr. Bea about the ricotta toast, he just loves ricotta! If you have any other healthy recipes, feel free to send some my way...I love to cook and try new things.
Congratulations to everyone that has lost weight, don't get discouraged (like I did) when you lose and gain it right back. I have been doing that steadily, but overall I have had a slow steady drop in weight.
I weighed in this morning at 136...<does a happy wiggle dance> and that puts me at a healthy weight <another happy wiggle dance>! I figured I would gain this morning after eating almost 1500 calories last night, way over my limit! It was the wine that took me over the edge, but it was sooooooo worth it!
Have a healthy day!!! ~B
Wow! Everytime I get on here there are more newbies!
Welcome Phantom Brother. Hope you can figure out how to read your hunger and sadness better. I know how you feel. Some how if I'm full I feel happier to. That is why I have gone to eating a lot of fruits and veges. Espcially veges. Popcorn is another thing I like. I can eat alot of that and feel more satisfied. Keeps my morale higher.
KrazyKim86 - Welcome here's to you finding out how to balance your goal's with everyone elses expectations. I don't know if it is what your talking about but I find it very difficult to say no when others want to go out to eat or something like that. I feel like a downer when all I can think about is how can I count that? I am a social eater, emotional eater and a grazer. Like I was saying. I like to feel full but I don't like to let people down either. Restraunt food doesn't seem to fill me up in the portions I'd have to eat to stay on target!
Katleenie- Welcome hope you were able to get to work out! I know that is key for me when trying to lose. I'm not so good at the diet thing but I love to exercise(well, most of the time).
axejudge - Welcome to you too! Losing inches is so cool. I know it feels so good just to firm up a little.
Cawilder - Same to you. Doesn't it feel so much different to just tighten up in places! I hope your injuries will heal fast that itching stage can be SOOOO annoying!
Alic39 - I have a long way to go too! So we will stick together. Don't give up even when the scales are evil and lie! Sometimes we work so hard only to give up at the first hill! You can do it!
gaeliclass - There is so much info out there! CC has great resources and these threads help alot. Here are a few Q & A from this site about the burn meter and the eat meter:
http://caloriecount.about.com/ask/meaning-bur n-meter-vs/545.html
http://caloriecount.about.com/ask/use-total-e stimate-number/1767.html

Hope they help
Tammy - Keep up the good work or walks should I say and about the scale fluctations here are a few links that might help you. They gave me a chuckle! Maybe all of us on this thread should take a peak

Miss Bea - sounds like you been having some fun ! Italian chicken sounds good to me! You coming to my house to cook it for me sounds better though! lol! (At this point your job is to tell me I will burn 120 calories if I cook and prepare it myself!)
lakemom - Oh how I know! Why! oh Why is it so hard to just stay in the routine. Life just seems to always gets in the way doesn't it. You'll get there again!
Cinzia - All work and no play! Ugh! Hope things calm down soon.
And for all you choco-aholics - I'm weighing in (so to speak) any excuse is a good excuse to eat chocolate - anytime! anywhere! for me. But when TTOM comes a visiting I have more trouble with the salty foods! Guess my body thinks I'm losing too much liquid and trys to grab some back! Anyhow! have a good week all.
Oh by the way, my stupid evil scale says 201.3 today! And I gained inches too! What a weekend for me!
Hi all! Just joined CC 4 days ago. My friend joined WW. I would too but my DH doesnt believe in doing WW. He says eat less exercise more. ok, if it were that easy! So I found this site. So far I enjoy it and it has really made me aware of what I eat. I tried South Beach and gained 30 lbs. ater I lost 20. This seems to be a more realistic approach to eating. what really motivated me recently was my DD said that since I was almost 50 (I'm 47) it didn't matter anymore! Ha! I said there is no reason why I can't look or feel good about myself! So here I go again. Good luck to all!
Anybody know how many cals. are in a coconut cherry bar? I just ate 3 of them. Home made and they were great and now I want to shoot myself in the foot for eating them :) ha ha. Looks like another hour of aerobics for me tonite. sighhhhh.
Been a while since I posted here. Right now I am on vacation at the beach and I have been doing pretty well. I have gotten up around 6-6:30 every day and walked/ran on the boardwalk. According to my heart rate monitor I have been going for about 30 min and burning from 400-500 calories. That's good because I had only gotten up to 300 at home. I am eating ok, no major slip ups so far. We are going out for ice cream tonight. I plan on getting real ice cream, not sorbet or such. I will only get one scoop and in a cup, no cone. I hope that doesn't put me over the edge!
Well, wish me luck! 3 days to go then home again. See ya!
Peace, Sarah
Hello Everyone, hope everyone is doing well.
Okay I have a confession to make and I am not entirely proud of it but unfortunately I am not as upset as I should be. I ate 3 donuts, not one, not two but three Entenmann's donuts at 270 calories each yesterday. I should be ashamed of myself because even though I still had a 700 calorie deficit and worked out extra hard yesterday I still ate three donuts and felt full last night for the first time in a long time. I snorked and it felt so very GOOD!!!
This morning I was still at 153 so I don't see any change yet.........
I am EVIL and so very satisfied!!! ![]()
Just writing a quick note.
I'm gonna be gone for a while. I'll try to get back as soon as I can. I have to take care of some personal issues.
You all take care! Later....
Hi,
Momof2funykds - I hope all will be fine. Take Good
Clang... donuts, hey, brush it off, pick yourself up, move forward. Take a check and try to figure out why you ate 'em.
Take care all!
