Seriously people, whats with all this 'guys dig curves' garbage? Yea right! If guys dig curves, than why is the stick-thin image promoted? And why do guys only date mainly skinny girls whose legs don't even touch when they walk?
Anyone else in high school notice this? Do you think it's just our age?
I know exactly what you mean. Although people may state that curves are preferable, it's blatantly not true. Come on, no guy ever really dislikes a girl for being too skinny do they? I hate it when they show 'curvy celebs' in magazines as well, these women are clearly size 8's anyway, just possibly with boobs. I don't class that as curvy. I've said quite a few times that certain people are too skinny, but you know what, I'd still quite like to be that way myself. It's weird, all this skinny/curvy crap. Hard not too get involved though. x
I always had this theory that whenever someone asks a man what size he prefers, he always says somehthing along, "A size twelve, I like a girl with a little meat on her bones." but as a man, he does not know what a size twelve looks like.
I mean, I could not guess a man's pant size by looking at him, and I expect its the same for them.
So they THINK someone is a size 12, or they picture someone curvey and assume they are a size 12, when actuality they are like a size 6 with T and A.
That's my theory anyways, because I hear the "size 12" answer so often.
It's not the body, it's how you work the body. Confidence is the key to beauty. I have a very small frame, but some shape, with a 32 inch chest, 20 inch waist, and 32 hips. I loath myself, and therefore, guys loath my body (atleast I assume).
If you like what you have, then others will too. Take pride in your body, whether it be curvacious or boyish. I know I sound like a middle school guidance counselor, but all this IS true! Everyone's beautiful, you just have to discover your induvidual beauty and embrace it :)
People keep confusing curves with having extra weight on you. Being curvy means your BONE STRUCTURE is built so there is a noticeable difference in your hip to waist ratio. I hate how people call overweight girls 'curvy' or they 'got booty'. Now everyone thinks being curvy or having a butt is being fat. I mean, would you call Marilyn Monroe fat? Hell no.

Oh yeah, and speaking of this:

I agree. My friends and I like thin girls. Boobs aren't really that important to us compared to being skinny <100 lbs for a shorter girl, <120 lbs for a girl around 5'9". I know it is horrible but I am just being honest.
It's true, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's read that study they did on BMI vs. WHR... where they found out that BMI is overwhelmingly the most important factor in attracting a male, and waist-hip ratio only accounted for 2% of men's attraction to female bodies. So if you take two women with the same BMI, a guy is of course going to prefer the more curved one over the more rectangular one. But if you're comparing an hourglass-shaped overweight girl and a rectangle-shaped slim girl, most guys are gonna go for the slim one. Thin first, curvy second, that's what the studies have shown. Here, links:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10097394?d opt=Abstract
And then there's the studies that showed men prefer a BMI of 18-21, which is healthy-thin, and their attraction decreases slowly over BMI 21 but sharply under BMI 18 because being 30 pounds underweight is more dangerous than being 30 pounds overweight. So no, men don't like "sticks" with bones poking out all over the place but they do like a size right above that. Besides, I hear a lot of the larger ladies here calling girls "sticks" who are really a healthy and attractive weight. A "stick" is a runway model, not a Playboy model. Guys may not like Nicole Ritchie but they do like Carmen Electra.
Lol. This thread makes me feel bad for having a bmi of 22.
peachysam- this thread makes me feel bad for having a bmi of 25-26. hahaha.
At ideal weight and even now with an extra 30lbs.... men have always loved my CURVES...... true curves is the key.... like all the previous posteres have stated a waist to hip ratio is the deference between like and dislike.... i'm 36... 31.... 45.... serious curves baby.... and i love my pear shape.... and men LOVE MY PEAR SHAPE.... they loved it at 155 and they love it now at 185..... I was more comfortable at 155.... and is why i am working to loose the weight..... but either way men dig it!!!

Guys do dig "extra weight" to an extent. I'm not saying that girls should be chubby. I just don't think it's necessary for a girl to be bony for a guy to find her attractive. I'm 5'3 104, not bony by any means, but nowhere near fat either, I have soft and squishy areas and I think I'm actually better that way. I used to be really skinny and I didn't have any rolls or anything on by body, and I wonder how that must have felt for a guy to touch! I think it's best if a girl is petite but still a little bit soft to the touch.
As for having a curvy body, well, not all of us are blessed to have fat in all the right spots. I have a flat ass and tiny boobs and all the fat is in my thighs, hips, and stomach instead. I don't have a curvy body. Curvy means you have an hourglass figure. I can see why guys dig that--I'm jealous I don't have that kind of body structure. It's a type that is much more forgiving to a little extra weight.
I'm a 34-C with a 28" waist and 44" hips. However, though I catch guys (and a lot of girls) staring, none of them approach me because I have a reputation as cold and stuck-up. I do attract sociopaths, though.
On the flip side, my best friend since middle school is about 70 lbs. over weight, has a steady boyfriend and more suitors than she knows what to do with since she's so optimistic and fun. This says a whole lot.

Actually.. yeah! Based on my own personal experiences anyway. When I was at the worst of my ED and at a very low weight I never got any looks or glances from guys, and my boyfriend hardly touched me. We also started fighting a lot over stupid things.. I think he just didn't find me attractive. Now, though, he can't keep his hands off me (;
I agree with julzdanceruns that it's all about confidence.
I really wonder what do the guys want? Like, they tell normal weight girls to start a diet (in a very arrogant tone), and then they tell thin girls that they are nothing but pale skeletons. It's frustrating. And what about the really more or less overweight girls? As for what I have experienced, they didn't even give a look upon me...

Gosh, what kind of guys are you hanging around with? They're clearly just being jerks. Petty insults like that tell you more about the inner self of the person saying them than the outer self of the person being insulted!
I myself know one rather nasty guy who once commented on how much weight I'd gained (I'd put on about 10 lbs since we first met). Around that time I asked my boyfriend what he thought about the weight gain. His response? "I didn't notice. You look fine to me." Whose opinion do you think mattered more to me? :)
when i met my hubby 8 years ago, i wore a size 7/9. i now wear a size 3/5 and i've also had a child.
i'm still not skinny by any means. [[not to sound unhealthy...but i'm not one of those skinny as a rail girls]] i still have pretty big hips, thick thighs and my butt is quite round. <----this is a GOOD thing.
my husband still wishes i wore a size 7/9. he asks me at LEAST once a week if there is something i can do to make my butt and thighs bigger. [[i think they're big enough, thanks.]]
but most guys that i know....like girls to have some meat on their bones. they just like to LOOK at the ones who don't.
It's because most high school guys only have one brain, and it's in their pants.
Well, seriously though, for most guys it's a matter of preferance. Like, it's really hypocritical, but I wouldn't want to date a fat guy. I prefer skinny, tall guys.
To say 'all guys like skinny chicks' is a really, really, really REALLY generalised statement.
Think of it this way. That's like saying 'chicks ONLY like guys who look like Orlando Bloom'. Which is HARDLY the case, DEFINATELY with me.
When you get that thought in your head or think 'oh, I'm not skinny enough/curvy enough for a guy', think of it this way, you'd get pretty darn bored if you only had to chose from ONE type of guy.
Variety is key. Not all guys like 'curvy' women, not all guys like 'slim' women. Men like women, unless they're homosexual or otherwise, but that's another case entirely.

Marilyn's 14 would be about a 8-10 in today's sizes -- she was not as big as the size makes her sound. http://www.snopes.com/movies/actors/mmdress.a sp
My personal veiws?
I'm going to be healthy and fit. I'm going to eat healthy and have icecream. I'm going to wear nice clothes and pretty colors.
I'm not skinny as a rail. I'm not a C-cup. So certainly, there are some guys who aren't going to find me attractive. But hey, I'm not trying to date EVERYBODY. And if they're not willing to talk with me, or even meet me, because of what I look like, why would I want to go out with them anyway?
Every guy (and girl) has a different idea of beauty. I know that looks govern initial attractiveness, but in the end it really, truly is what's inside that counts.
Who CARES what guys think?!
I've been 150 pounds and I've been 105 pounds.
I DEFINITELY feel way more sexy at 105.
I think the issue at hand is taking overweight - and even obese - girls and calling them "beautiful & curvy."
I think that in attempt to make naturally curvy girls feel beautiful (which they totally are!) the world has made it more comfortable to slip into an overweight stage.
Serisously - my sister's 230 pound friend in high school (this was the '90s) had to have her dress MADE because none would fit her.
Now, go to DEB or something and a whole entire side of the store is devoted to plus-size girls.
Being fat (yes, I said FAT) has become too convenient.
They're calling it "curvy" now to make it seem okay.
But my idea of curvy is Beyonce, or America Ferrera.
Not, uhm, Aretha Franklin.
What are your thoughts on a vegan diet?
I think vegans should plan their diets carefully and take a multivitamin-mineral supplement. Vegan diets eliminate all animal foods including meat... Read more
