Saturday report ...

Counted calories and logged what I ate. Only over my planned calories by about 200 and still well below maintenance.

Drank water (probably 80% of what I should have.)

Didn't get in any exercise ... was at the Adoption event for about 7 hours, then home, then to two grocery stores, plus it was raining .... so I am treating this as a day off.  (Walnut was not adopted ... so he got to come home with me, yay!)

Sunday plan ...

Normal breakfast.

Normal lunch.

Drink my water.

Get in some biking.

Dinner ... I am taking my own steak (weighed and measured and marinated.) And I know they are grilling corn on the cob (77 calories) and making a salad ... so I should be good. They know how carefully I am watching what I eat, and totally understand I'm weird enough to just ask if I can bring my own protein to their barbecue! Hee hee hee.  And they didn't seem to mind my asking what else they are serving and what's in it! (They are the family adopting Pecan the foster kitten, and mom and daughter visit my house/kittens once a day ... so my ongoing weight loss is well known and they are nice n' supportive.)

I must must must must must get better about drinking water!!!!

Keep on, keeping on, peeps!!!

MOLLY

Welcome aboard, icutoffmyhair!

Hi Guys,

Well Friday I saw good news on my scale (64.4 = -1.1 kg in 2 weeks). However I went a little nuts this weekend and waaaay over indulged so today the scale said I am at the same weight I was 2 weeks ago :( I know some of that os water weigh but still sad...my self control is soooo sad.

On a positive note:

I did exercise Friday and Saturday.

I did make lunch for the next 3 days (chicken and cauliflower meatballs in tomato sauce with potato and cauliflower mashed "potatoes")

I did have a sensible breakfast.

I will get up to excercise tomorrow.

I will have a sensible dinner despite an annoying work phone call I am supposed to have at 22:00.

I'm a bit late on this challenge, but I still want to get in! Can I? :-S

I'm Kate

Hi All- Sounds like everyone is doing well and attempting to make good choices this weekend.  I'm so glad that I finally realized that's what it's about.  I use to be so "one way" thinking.  If I overinduldged I'd completely throw in the towel.

Molly, your neighbors sound like great folks-have a fun time at the BBQ.

Congrats on the loss tamarbee.

It's bright, sunny and warm here in MA today-finally spring! Have a great day-Dianne

good morning everyone!!

my special challenge this weekend will be barrrrbequuuue!!! mmmmmmmm!!! i could usually eat several hot dogs and pulled pork sandwiches and some grilled chicken all in one sitting!! i love this stuff!!! but, i'm going to try to just pick one and eat the ONE selection (HUFF!!)!

i have good news though! I've lost one pound this week! i wish it was more, but what're you gonna do?? hey - if i can lose one pound every week, then next week it'll be 2 pounds down :) trying to keep the optimism going here...

Kate - welcome! glad you decided to join us :)

My challenge for the weekend is to get better control of the blood sugars. It has been real hard with being sick and not wanting to cook. Today, I was bad and I know better than to have tomatoe soup. But only a half of a cup and it knocked my blood sugar from 116 to 264. WOW.

Help me I need a kick in the butt. I will be eating broccoli in a little bit. I have the melody in the freezer and plain broccoli, along with mixed veggies. I plan on making beef stew tomorrow. WE are suppose to get the rain here by tomorrow. Take care and God Bless all of you in this challenge.

I need to figure out how to get this to automatically post to my account. SO I can follow up more regularly. Any suggestions?

This weekend so far has been good, doing the many things a mom should do.. Cooking, Summer cleaning, and playing with my children, and trying my best to keep my mind off all those cookouts, I am not going to. My boyfriend is at one now, I can't stop him from going to his mom's cookout, but he's not draging me this year.. Thank goodness.. I am just taking my time, going over a few things that I need to be working on next this week, and getting ready for some more weight loss.. It's going to happen... I've worked too hard for it not to happen.

Anyway... Hope you all are doing great.

Hello to all the new people, I hope you enjoy this group because I do.. I got for to reply to the something fishy, so I will now..

I love all and any type of fish. I haven't came across one I didn't like yet..

Keep it move everyone.. We are going to get the rest of the weight off come hell or high water..

Later

Hi everyone! An especial "hi! hi!" to new people. Everyone is welcome, join any time!!!

Last weekend we were 20 degrees above normal temperatures, and this weekend we are 20 degrees below normal temperatures. It's quite a shock (although pleasant) to go from 103 degrees down to 63 degrees, and of the two, I must candidly admit that I am loving our freak cool/wet spell ... even if it is putting a drizzly damper on many people's Holiday Weekend plans.  It was actually nice to get all comfy and snuggly under covers last night with a bed-full of furry-purry kitty cats!

Since it's so drizzly and thunderstormy here, I just zipped out for a brisk 3 miles bike ride in the neighborhood. I definitely don't like bike riding in jeans, but I was concerned it was a bit chilly and wet for shorts. Anyway, my primary goal was to just get some circulation going, to rev up my heart a wee bit, and to stay limber. Tomorrow it's supposed to be cool and sunny, so I will see about a longer ride ... depending on how I feel. (I usually get 2-3 days of really bad cramps for my TOM, and usually "lay low" for those.)

I've lost 500 calories.  What does that mean? Well, when I first started here, the Tools showed that (because of my weight), I burned 2800 calories per day. Since then, thanks to 9+ months of calorie counting and some wonderful support, I now burn only 2300 calories per day. So, 500 calories are gone! I like that since it's just another way of showing progress.  By the way, I can cheerfully and joyfully report that the extra weight that TEMPORARILY revisited me from my cruise has now "left the building" ... woo hoo. So, any weight from now on that I lose (and I will) will be NEW WEIGHT LOSS!  Now, let's hope I can show at least a small weight loss for the very merry month of May, right?

As I sit here, Sunday afternoon, I wonder exactly what my wonderful DH is doing. Is he flying? Is he sleeping? Is it hot and dusty? They are 11 hours ahead of me, time-wise, so I know it's the middle of the night ... but I also know that his schedule is varied, topsy-turvy, and ever-changing. I pray for his rest, his safety, his peace of mind, and for his quick and safe homecoming. Part of me is sad that he's missing out on this cool, cloudy, almost-coastal weather ... he'd be fun to go for a long ride in the rain with, followed by some cozy kitten-filled snuggling.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend - it tends to be quiet online on most weekends, especially Holiday ones.

MOLLY

Ok I am going to pat myself on the back!

Yesterday I had to stay at the office until midnight. We (me and a co worker) were getting really hungry...There was the possibility of pizza or pasta or burgers in the air...I convinced him to get salads. I went out to the nearest mall (5 min walk) and got us tuna salads. Over did it a bit on the bread but hey it wasn't pizza!

Couldn't drag myself out of bed to workout this morning but I may take a nice leisurely walk tonight...

Greetings,

I'm finally getting a bit more control over the eating and hoping to start losing again this week.  Although I've just been maintaining for the past week or two; I seem to lose a few pounds and then nothing for a few weeks...

I'm heading to a BBQ and plan to eat in moderation.  Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day-Dianne

Hi Mollymouser & everyone else!  I hope I can join in on the fun!  Every time I find a post that I think I would enjoy, it's already closed!

I would like to catch up with everyone else real quick to begin with....

What do I hope to accomplish during these 75 days?

INCREASE WATER INTAKE~I have so much trouble getting all the required amount of water in daily.

EXERCISE MORE REGULARLY~I went from having a strict exercise schedule to almost none to just a few days a week.  I must get that back on track!

EAT MORE FRESH FOOD~I absolutely love fresh veggies & fruit but I tend to not eat enough of them & I have no excuse as to why!

An added goal is to stop drooling over the foods the rest of my family is eating and savor every bite of my healthier version.

...  QUESTION FOR THE DAY ...

What veggies are in your house RIGHT NOW?  (And are you planning on eating any of them?)

Currently (needing groceries) I have fresh baby carrots, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, corn on the cob, potatoes, canned green beans, corn & carrots.  I plan on eating all of them...within reason of course! :)

NEW QUESTION DU JOUR . . .

What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)

I seem to drink more water if it isn't really cold, not warm, but not freezing my teeth either!  Or if, I drink it from a sports bottle I drink more too.  I still need to increase the amount, I need to fill that sports bottle again & again & again....!

QUESTION OF THE DAY ....

What is your target breakdown of fats / proteins / carbs .... and WHY?

This is a bad question for me...I am still learning how to break down my intake of these things.  I would say I am trying to stay around 20% fats..30% protein..45% carbs..and fiber I am still working on, I know that I need more in my diet.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: MAY 22

What's one so-called "diet food" that you really detest/dislike/avoid/hate?

I really cannot stand oatmeal, I think it may just be the texture of it.  I like it as a cookie or mixed in something that is baked, but I just cannot eat a bowl of the mushy stuff! I also do not like Yogurt!!!  It gags me to try one little taste of it.  I am currently trying to find a substitute for these 2 things, suggestions are more than welcome!

QUESTION OF THE DAY ... SOMETHING'S FISHY!

Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?)

I can't say that I particularly like fish.  I use to eat breaded fish sandwiches, but very rarely.  I also ate some of the fish that my husband would catch & bring home.  I do like tuna fish! :)  I've never thought about taking a fish-oil supplement.

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND ....

What special dieting challenges will you face (or did you face) this Memorial Day Weekend? And what's your plan for dealing with those challenges?

We had no set plans for the holiday weekend, so I figured it would be a great dieting weekend...I was wrong!  My husband decided to invite his parents over for a barbecue, which I knew his mother would bring lots of good food (she's like that.)

I did splurge with the types of food I ate, but I kept portions under control, so I don't feel like I completely caved in.  I know the temptations are very hard at these times, but if I keep my portions under control, I can still enjoy the flavors that I miss & crave.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (MONDAY MAY 26)

Do you have a favorite day of the week for getting weighed?

I like to weigh myself on Friday mornings... that way I start my weekend (which is hardest for me) knowing how to handle it if I'm out & about.

I think that has caught me up to the rest of you now!  I look forward to following along and checking in.  Oh yeah, I have lost about 8 pounds so far and have so many more to go, but I believe I can do it with all the support that is given on here.

This looks like fun!  I'd love to join in!  My name is Maria and I've been really bad on the whole "weight loss" thing for the past few months.  But I'm back into it now and looking for buddies!

Summer Goals:

Work Out More!  This past week has been a really good week for me to work out.  I only missed working out yesterday!  Did not get my butt out of bed before work today, so I will have to work out after work!

Lose Weight!  If I'm good about my calories and exercising, I know I can lose 20 lbs.  So I'm going to make my goal 25 lbs!

I'm going to be working up at a Boy Scout summer camp from end June - mid August.  I'll be doing COPE (rock climbing, team building, ect) so I hope that will work in my favor!

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

I prefer to weigh in on Sundays or Mondays.  That way I'm motivated to be "good" on the weekends!

I look forward to checking in and keeping up with everyone here!  :)

First my answers to the questions of the day...

(edited to answer more questions of the day)

Currently for veggies in the house.. Fresh: romaine lettuce, celery, onions. Frozen: soy beans, broccoli, green beans, peas, corn. Fruit: oranges, apples, blackberries, apricots.

Drinking more takes a conscious effort on my part. At work I have a reminder pop up for lunch time and two snack times (I would totally forget to eat otherwise.. then stuff myself at home) when those reminders pop up I get my food and a drink. My cup is 16 oz so if I fill it five times, that is 2.3 litres. So far so good.

I eat fish maybe twice a week, mostly tuna, shrimp or salmon. Recently started taking omega 3 fish oil pills.. along with my hubby (he is taking them to help lower his cholesterol, and I know they are realy good for anyone, so I am taking them too).

Haven't really found a "diet " food I don't like .. hello I'm overweight, so I LIKE food! But actually try to eat more fresh and home prepared meals.

Ratios of protein, carbs and fats? I don't really do it like that, I look at my "analysis pie" and if half of it is green (carbs) and the orange and blue (protein and fat) are about evenly in two quarters .. plus getting an "A grade" I recon I am doing ok.

My challenge for Memorial weekend was to walk the VIRTUAL HALF MARATHON as posted on the RATW challenge. I did this on Saturday, walking a total of 13.5 miles in 2hours and 40 mins.

My "official" weigh in day is Monday, first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom.. but I do sneaky extra ones, that don't get logged on most other days.. Even though my weight fluctuates, I feel like that little reminder each day helps to keep me on track. I never weighed before, when I was putting on the weight and think now, that if I had done this, then I would have stopped the gaining cycle so much sooner.

Anyhoo..so I weighed in today and have lost another pound. Am now down to 190 yey me! I am SOOO close to being into the 180's .. hopefully next week ?! Slow and steady.. right?

Another Question.. does anyone else have an untrue weight listed on their DL? Mine says 150 lbs, I wanna get there, so I am not lying on my licence anymore!! LOL

As for my 75 days challenge stats for this week..

  1. I lost a pound (as stated above)
  2. I have been averaging 2.5 litres of drinks per day
  3. went to the gym three times and did a half marathon on saturday.
  4. good with portion sizes and hit my daily calorie allowance pretty close most days.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (MONDAY MAY 26)

Do you have a favorite day of the week for getting weighed?

MOLLY

I weigh every day.  I don't really freak out when I see the day to day fluctuations, and I like seeing what's going on with my body every day.  My weight fluctuates a lot, so I think I'd be discouraged if I only weighed once a week and my heaviest day for the week happened to be my weigh-in day.  My favorite weigh-in day is the day when I've lost the most weight!

I hope everybody had a good weekend.  I've had my nose in the books all weekend, with the exception of a few walks, but it was really nice not to have classes today.  I guess the most exciting part of the weekend for me was discovering that there are bones in my wrists.  I took off my watch last night and saw a weird lump I'd never seen before on my wrist.  I poked it and realized it was a bone that's been buried under chub for a few years.  It shows on the other wrist, too.  Weird, huh?

Today I hit a biking milestone ... and biked 20 miles in one day!!! (Keep in mind this is on a cruiser bike, no gears or speeds involved!) I biked 12.7 miles between breakfast and lunch, and then I biked another 6.3 miles after dinner with my neighbor, Anita.  Both times, it was just delightful -- cool weather, pretty flowers, scampering squirrels, chirping birdies, Memorial-Day flags blowing in the breeze. I just felt GOOD today, ya know, and wanted to take FULL advantage of what will probably be our last cool day until ... October!!!

The barbecue at my neighbor's house this afternoon/evening was very nice. I took my own carefully-selected, weighed, measured and logged sirloin steak (two, actually ... I'm having one tomorrow on a salad!) and also some hand-picked, fresh-off-the-vine, home-grown cherry tomatoes from my own garden.  I also sampled some of the grilled salmon (wonderful), plus the grilled eggplant/yellow squash/zucchini, and a small corn cobette. I also ate 5 baby carrots, some cherry tomatoes and 2 tortilla chips. In fact, I was so good that when I went home and tested my blood sugars, I had to eat a fiber muffin so I'd have enough carbs in me to go biking!!!!  It was really fun.... and I feel like I stayed on track, but also sampled the salmon and had a nice-sized portion of the grilled veggies.  I am glad that I had a plan -- it took a lot of the stress and worry over the event .... and I'm glad that I biked enough to offset any "indiscretions" of eating!

I was bummed when I came home and realized I'd missed a telephone call from my wonderful DH .... but that will happen. He couldn't get the call to go through on the cell phone -- phone coverage over there can be very sporadic. But I did get to "speak" with him Monday afternoon (Monday night for him) via Instant Messenger and learned he's safely there, getting settled in, and that they've made a few improvements.... including a new mattress! He was also glad to report that he got his own sleeping place (a "hooch") rather than having to share a 6-person tent.  Now I am just praying for his acclimation to the climate and time zone and camp life in general -- hopefully before he's put to work flying missions.

The scale this morning not-so-mysteriously (but annoyingly) showed a .6 increase -- which of course is water (it's my TOM), since I certainly ate on track yesterday. I'm weighing daily for a month or so because I want to better track how my body ebbs and flows ... but I am only logging my weights once a week. I'd really love to be able to log a 4-5 pound loss for May, but that may be a bit too optimistic given my dismal March (4 pounds lost) and April (0 lost) ... but we shall see. Hopefully my TOM will be finished by Wednesday, so I will have a few days for the scale to move downward before June 1. (Did you hear that Mr. Scale? Move DOWNWARD.)

Hey! Lots of new people and good reports!!! Hello and Welcome everyone! Thanks for answering our QODs (questions of the day) .... and introducing yourselves and sharing your goals.

This is an open and ongoing thread with no rules or regulations ... we're just trying to stay motivated, encouraged, focused and on-track for our "75 Days of Summer" .... and probably beyond! If you want to report how you are doing with your goals, please do so. And if we can help you achieve any of your goals, just speak up! This should also be a good thread for meeting new buddies, too!

And if you have any suggestions for QOD topics, please drop me a PM (private message). Most of the QODs will probably be related to healthy eating/weight loss, but I may also ask other questions, too! The point of the QODs is to remind you to check in with the rest of us, when you have time!

WE MADE IT THROUGH MEMORIAL DAY!!!!!!!!

Wow!  20 miles!  Way to go!

QUESTION OF THE DAY (MONDAY MAY 26)

Do you have a favorite day of the week for getting weighed?

MOLLY

Friday - I can see how much progress I've made all week.  I usually weigh everyday but I record on Monday (to see how bad the weekend was) - Wednesday (to make sure I'm making some progress) and on Friday (to see how well I did all week).

Yesterday I didn't get on the scale (I was afraid to- LOL!) I had a horrible weekend.  So today I'm getting back on track and will check in tomorrow to see how bad things really were over the Memorial Day weekend.

I've not been online since last week so I'll have to go back and read through the tread.  I hope everyone has had a better start to the summer season than I did.  I had a great weekend, just not a good healthy eating, exercising weekend.  That is about to change.  I've got my plan for the day and will do some sort of exercise this afternoon as well as eat those veggies and drink that water.

Hope everyone has a good day.
