I'll be 43 this June anyone around the same age want to join my weight loss quest?

Greetings!

I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

Hi! I'm 43 and a mom of a teenage boy and they need @ 3000 calories/day and sometimes I feel like I could eat way more than he needs!

I've lost 20# since I joined CC last May. I am doing this so slowly... I LOVE to exercise...I hike @4-5 miles/day. My diet is healthy...lots of veggies and fruit. But, I bake yummy things...healthy but carbs and when I get anxious I go right for one more bite and then another one more bite and then another...

so, the weight is coming off slowly (1/2#/week if lucky) but I am starting to learn what sets off my overeating. AND I am rebounding more quickly the next day, usually.

everyone have a great day!

Hi Sharonclaire and welcome! We do our weigh-ins on Fridays - we cut and paste the list from the person above us and then add our own.  This is a good group; it's great to talk with everybody.

I ate maintenance most of the week partly because I had a bunch of social commitments, but I did get back on the elliptical, and I'll go again after I get home from work.  Next week I'll also not eat back the calories from my workout, for a greater deficit, and see what that does for a couple of weeks.

Good morning all.  I hope you all have a great weekend.  I had no change again but I'm keeping the faith!!!!!

Good news - I am down .8 of a pound.  I was hoping for more, but this just shows that effort = results (at least in my case).  Only went to the gym 2 times this week, had the "bear claw" incident, didn't drink enough water and ate french fries 2 x this week...(a big no no for me...french fries are a slipperly slope to my old eating habits).

Although any loss is a good loss, I hope to ramp it up to 2 pounds next week.  That is my goal...8-10 pds a month.  I leave for Hawaii on May 11th and would like to be down about 20 more pounds.  That means I need at least 2 pounds a week to get close.

Again, I can say this for me:  Effort = Results - I need to remember that.

I've started eating at my BMR to try to lose again. I bought a new scale which is weighing me in more (about a 2 pound difference) so I adjusted my start weight by adding 2 pounds.

Okay, I thought this was funny...Over the weekend I was talking to a friend about the phobia I had about buying a new scale...she said that she had just gotten one herself and made me try it. I couldn't believe it, the thing said I weighed 2 lbs less than the one I have at home! The one I use at the gym is much closer to what I get at home. That did it, I am going to buy a new one and settle this stupid dispute once and for all. I think I'll get the digital and actually be able to watch the partial pounds while I am at it.

I spent most of the weekend pulling carpet out of my house, getting ready to put in wood floors (before the allergy season starts). My house is a total disaster right now...but on the bright side my vaccuum is enjoying the vacation!

I just got a new scale over the weekend too, but a food scale.  Our old scale was one of the spring types, with a manual thumb wheel to adjust it, and only has 25g markings.  The new one is digital, accurate to 1g, and should be much better :)  One thing I've noticed with the digital scales, though, is that when the battery starts to go you get funny readings.

We had 54cm of snow over the weekend (21").  Fortunately we're in an apartment, so we didn't have to shovel anything, but you get your exercise climbing over the snow banks!

That's alot of snow!!! We got 4 inches and I thought that was alot!! lol

I was thinking of investing in a food scale too. A digital one. Are those the best to get?

Hello all-

Can I still join you? I'm in a few groups here, but I'd love to also join this one since I'm 45 and need to lose about 40 pounds. I like the idea of being accountable for a weigh in day. :)  It's sooooooo much harder to lose in the 40s...at least for me. I remember being younger and really believing it just had to do with being a lot less active when people would tell me this. Ah the wisdom that comes with aging! ;)

I am currently around 183. I put on 20 pound in what seems like overnight a couple years ago, and I am really committed to getting them off. Problem is they don't want to go!!

I'd love to eventually get into the 140s.

Welcome dccd!

It sure is so much harder in the 40's!  I have some weight too that doesn't want to go! lol  But we are here for one another. What are you doing as far as diet and exercise?

Wow..what a crazy week. I got stranded in Cleveland for the weeked in the 12-14" of snow, then found out my company is downsizing and I might be moving to NC in a couple of months. Stress and diets don't go together very well. Anyway, after almost a week of non-dieting, I am back on the horse this morning and ready to go. I'll be lucky to lose a couple of pounds this week, but that is okay...

Welcome dccd!

I went with a digital scale because it's easier to set it to zero if you have a bowl or whatever that you want to use to weigh your food in.  It was always tricky doing that with the wheel on the spring scale, turning it too far and back again, plus the scale I got is accurate to 1g so I can use it for yarn too :) (I'm a knitter.)

Terry, I hope everything goes OK for you job-wise.  They say that job stress is one of the big stresses in life, and I know all about job uncertainty being in the high tech field.

Hello DCCD, Join in whenever! We're all in the same boat!

Wow, Terry, if I lived your week I'd be on the couch with my best friends Ben and Jerry! Wow, the thought of relocating, so overwhelming. So many decisions!  Good luck with it. And glad to see your healthy didn't suffer too much!

Hi everyone!

Terry I hope everything turns out in your favor. Will your company pay for your relocation costs? And help you to find housing? My uncle works for an airline and when they make him relocate they pay for everything and give him paid time off to go find housing for his family. It must be so stressful just thinking about the move and uncertainty with a move. Good luck!

Have a good day everyone and I'll check back in later on today.

Okay my group friends.  I need some help.  It has been about a month and I'm not losing!!!!  I'm really watching what I eat but I don't get much exercise.  I need some motivation.  Tell me about what you eat in a "typical" day please!!!!!  I'm reaching out for some help!!!!!!Cry

Hope, I am a guy, so my intake should be higher than yours...but here is what I had yesterday. I also walked 3 miles at noon and rode my stationary bike for about an hour last night.

Breakfast
Honey Bunches of Oats cereal
banana
skim milk

snack
5 calorie jello cup

Lunch
Chicken Healthy Choice meal
Apple

snack
40 calorie pudding

Dinner
Grilled Chicken
baked potato
broccoli
whole wheat toast

Before bed snack
Orange

Here's what I ate yesterday, which is fairly typical. I aim for 1500 - 1550 calories. On days that I don't work out, I burn around 1900, because I still have a 10min walk to and from work. On days that I do work out, I burn around 2300. (Workout days haven't been very often this past month, which is probably why I'm stalled, but I'm working on changing that.)

Breakfast: Oatmeal made with 1/3 cup rolled oats (102) with milk (103) and whey protein powder (130)

Snack: Yoghurt (90)

Lunch: Instant black bean soup (240) with milk (103) (I usually have a tomato sandwich instead of the soup but I was out of groceries.)

Snack: Apple (72)

Supper: Soup (240), rye bread (130), milk (103), and a Cadbury creme egg (170) (I had a light supper to fit this in!)

Over the day, I had 8 cals in coffee and tea (2 per cup), and I also had a multivitamin. My total was 1492.

Activities: 10min walk to / from the bus (53 cal each way), and 33min on the elliptical (377 cal)

Hi everyone, this sure seems like a great party and I want to join, please! I too will be turning another year in June, I will be 41.  That means that I have been fighting the fat for the last 15 years since that's how old my son is.

I too have tried everything.  A few years ago I was down to 190lbs, had a personal trainer, was a size 12 and swore I would never gain another pound.  That was summer 2002 and then I lost my job, went back to school, quit smoking and ate my way back up to more than I have ever weighed in my life, I hit 300 in February 2007.

Bought a new house at the end of 2006 and had to climb stairs to get to my bedroom.  Everytime I did so I couldn't catch my breath, it was awful.  But since then I have managed to loose 30 lbs, and then gained 10 (the holidays, and the flu killed me, ate too many carbs)  I am at 280.

I am having such a difficult time loosing weight, it used to come off easier and faster and now it seems like I spend my time at the gym and countng calories and for the last 2 weeks I have weighed the same thing.  I am so frustrated.  This thing says I'm supposed to consume 2800 calories a day to hit my goal weight in 2011, but with the kind of food I'm eating it seems nearly impossible, seriously I eat all day and can't get up past 2000 and that is when I try really hard.

Also, I'm not sure, but after working out am I supposed to deduct the calories I burned from the total consumed?  And when is the weight going to start dropping? I am really frustrated, I need help!

Ellie
