Good morning,  I'm 48.  I had a hysterectomy last Jan. 27th.  Went on hormones in March.  I gained 50lbs.  I'm no longer on hormones as of about 2 months ago. But, I'm have trouble getting it to come back off.  I'm excited to see a site here for us girls for support.

Welcome to our groups machelleg444, you will find us full of fun, advice, rants of own and just down right good people, although so you know, we have a few guys floating around here too. I too had a hysterectomy and gainedabout 25 of the 43 I'm trying to lose.

I drink 20 oz bottles of water and usually about 3 a day, acording to your info, I should be drinking 5 Wow Wee!!! (I'll have to buy more TP LOL).  And that info from the article Betty is good too.  It gives me a guideline on how often to change up, before that, I just figured if the exercise got too easy, that was a good sign to me that something needed to change.

I'm hearing good news from lots of people in our group.  That is such great news especially from MJ, that's your first loss isn't it?   Way to go all!

Hi everyone! and Happy New year! I last signed out of this thread on the Dec. 24th, page 7. Well, I'm back and I've been keeping up with the dialouge. I offically hit the ground running yesterday for the new year. I didn't gain during the holidays and just got over TTOM. Should be interesting to see what happens on the scale at the end of this week. I'm doing just OK on the calorie intake, but on a more positive note, I've gotten my exercise in both Monday and today. Consistency is a past pitfall I'm working on. Anyway, great to see you're all doing well, and welcome to the newer comers. Take care of yourselves!

The Quaker Weight Smart Oatmeal is very good and it keeps me full for a long time.  It comes in a few flavors.

Wow!  This is one busy little thread here LOL!!!  Blink and then... Bam!!  Five new posts LOL!!!

Welcome to all the new people!!!!  This is a great place to be!!

I went out and bought a Pedometer last night as well as 2 of the 1-pound Pink Smart Bells (nothing PINK can be called Dumb LOL).  So far today, I've put in 9,000 steps!!!!!!!  Toooo cool!!  I definitely could tell there was the extra weight for the workout this morning... 1 pound in each hand makes a big difference!

Well, I'm off to get dinner and then watch The Biggest Loser!!!

I'm a newbie - just started this yesterday.  My aunt, my mom and I are all trying to get healthier.  I'm 44 and would like to lose 20-30 pounds.  Our goal for this week is to exercise 30 minutes everyday, dring 8 glasses of water, watch our portions and no eating between meals.  We'll add one new goal each week.  So far so good.  only 1000 calories each day so far.  Good luck to all

Good Morning everyone,  Welcome all new comers.  Toby2indy I love that you are trying to loose as a group that makes it so much easier "someone to give you that push" that is why this forum is sooooo great lots of great people here to cheer you on.

You should know a couple things though. You want to eat at least 1200 calories a day or your body will think it is starving and you will end up not loosing anything because it will not burn off anything it will store it all, and if you are starving yourself which 1200cal is NOT a lot and 1000 even less... you will end up eating a huge amount and ruin all your hard work.  Also eating between meals is good if you eat good snacks, the more times you eat the more your metabolism kicks in and that burns calories so a couple snacks is a good thing, fruit, nuts, veggies, salad etc.   It comes off slower but should stay off or so they say!!!!

One last thing and this is only my feeling, it is okay to treat yourself once in a while otherwise you go crazy.  Since it is a lifestyle change and we are changing what we have done for years it makes sense that it will take time to change to a healty life style so it is okay to revert back once and a while.  There are a lot of great tools and ideas on this site.  Good luck with your goals I hope this helps you.  Have a good day all.  Betty

Thanks for the advice! I never know if I'm adding the right amount of calories to my log because I usually don't follow recipes - I just cook.  I've just been adding the ingredients, one by one.  Is that the right way?  So my calorie counts may be off - I'd rather err on the side of caution!  We do allow healthy snacks- just no junk food.  The biggest thing is the daily exercise.  I work full time and I am involved in several organizations.  I have never devoted time to myself.  I think this is going to be the hardest thing for me.  So many other things seem so much more important!  How can I possible "just go for a walk?" I guess a lot of other mom's probably make this same mistake.  But, it's time to change.  This has been a great website for us.  I really enjoy it!

Hi All-

I'll be 47 next month and have 20-25 pounds to lose.

I have been struggling to lose weight for two years now but with no lasting success. If I even start to overeat, I go right into all or nothing thinking...."oh well, you blew it so might as well keep going!" Its usually (negative) emotions that trigger my eating.

The food log has been a BIG help and forces me to think about what I am eating and to remember portions. No more binging!

I just started here and would love to find some friends for support. I need to do this right!

I, too, just started.  (see above entries) I love this site!  You and I are a lot alike. The food log is fantastic!  I think this is the most positive outlook I've had on losing weight ever!  I agree that the logs really make you think about your food and exercise!  My aunt (age 53) had knee replacement last year and my mom is 68 with a lot of hip pain.  Both of them are limited in their exercise.  But together we at least keep an eye on each other's eating and drinking habits!  Do you have a friend, neighbor or family member to do this with you?  I highly reccomend it.  Otherwise, you might be stuck with me for support!  LOL.  My shins are sore from walking!  I need to do something else tonight.  I have some aerobic and stretching videos.  I guess I'll use those!  Besides, it's going to be too cold to walk outside tonight - I live in Ohio.  Are you adding exercise to your plan?  Even if it's just for 30 minutes a day - it will help tremendously.  Also, are you drinking lots of water?  Thanks for your reply!  I hope we can all help each other out!

Welcome to the group "toby2indy" and "Elizabeth2008"... this is a really neat place to be!  Betty was so right on treating yourself once in a while... otherwise you'll get bored very quickly.

Pretty much, as far as the food part, I'm doing 1200 calories a day, and don't go over 1400.  1,000 calories is pretty much the bare minimum our bodies need to operate on a daily basis, from what I've read and heard, so I stay around 1100-1200 per day.  I just added protein powder into my mix of things, so that will at first kinda bump my weight up a tiny bit... but in the long run my muscles with thank me.  I take B12 (injection form) and some Amino Acids (also injectable) to help my body as well.  Water's really important as well.  I found Evamore to be a great water as well as Fiji.  They cost more than the Reverse Osmosis waters you get in some of the other bottled water, but since the Evamore/Fiji are alkaline the body assimilates them better.  So far I've gone from 189 to 165.8, so I guess it's working LOL!!  Slow and steady, like Betty said, is the best way not to gain it back again.  Once you've got that eating pattern in place... it's pretty smooth sailing.

Best wishes to both of you... and Congrats!!!!  You've taken a great step!!!!

Rochelle

Hi toby2indy and everyone else here,

Let me babble for a minute and I'll answer your questions.

Today I faced the doctors scale for my annual physical- I'm 5"3" and weigh 150!!

The doctor told me 135-140 would be a good weight for me, he reviewed the BMI index with me and identified 25 as a goal. He said if you want to try for 125, fine, but 140 would make him happy.

He is much more forgiving than I am to myself, however. My self esteem and my weight are tied together like you wouldn't believe. I feel no confidence and unattractive at this weight. I struggled with an eating disorder in high school and college (binging and purging) but thankfully that behavior is in the past for many years now.

I started journaling and its already clear how my tendency to worry triggers eating what I shouldn't.

I have a generalized anxiety disorder which is treated with medication ...its much better, but I still worry about things like money and work...I am a single mom with an 11 year old daughter and sole provider financially.

Perfect example: my boss scheduled a meeting with me unexpectedly yesterday for tomorrow. Now I'm good at my job and all my evals rate me highly. Yet, I start stressing about why a meeting was scheduled. What if I'm reassigned? What if they are unhappy with my proformance in my new job and I lose my promotion? I drive myself nuts! The point is....last night, I ate what I shouldn't and was over my daily limit (1300 calories) by 300 calories!

Worry and overeating is a big problem for me! I need to find alternatives for eating that help. Exercise destresses me alittle but not enough!

If I wasn't keeping this food log, trust me, I would have easily kept eating.

I now measure everything too so I don't disregard how much I'm having to eat. As I think back, the only diet that worked for me in the past was strict Weight Watchers....which consists of measuring and recording healthy food choices.

You asked about-

Water:I do drink lots of water, in fact thats pretty much all we drink except milk. We go thru those big six gallon jugs in a week (I have a water cooler in my house)

Exercise: I was running 3 miles a day this summer and fall five days a week. I live in Mass. and hate the cold so I have gotten lazy recently. However, I am now running on my treadmill (2-3 miles) and I have a big exercise DVD collection which I started using again too. Right now, I am using "Ripped" by Jari Love. It is weight lifting/toning only. One day cardio (running), one day the DVD. I have her whole collection, Cathe, all kinds of stuff so if I get bored I will sub in a new one.

Well, that's my story! Thanks for reading and if any other emotional eaters out there have developed ways to cope without binging, please let me know!

Hey everybody!

This is fun! I've never done anything like this before and am having quite a time with the "community" part of it. I also am enjoying the calorie counting part and seeing the "Burn Meter" is exciting! I am 43 with 30+ pounds to loose. I'm starting with 30 because 50 seems way too overwhelming. Besides, thirty pounds is what I have put on most recently (last five years). I hate the "D" word, so I just say "I'm counting calories." The only time I ever had real success before was about 8 years ago when I was working with a trainer. He had me journal all my food...EVERYTHING! I am a visual learner. It really helps me to see it all. Anyway, I have a feeling that this is going to be a long journey. I started back at the gym this week. On Mon and Tues I couldn't walk, Wed. it hurt to laugh and today I could barely turn the steering wheel in my car... so I guess I'm doing something right. Laughing My ultimate goal besides the weight loss is to be able to run a 5K by June. Any runners out there? Think this is realistic for someone who has never run?

Well I wish the best of health and happiness to you all. Good luck on your own goals!

i'd like to join ya'll's group even tho i'm a bit of an old timer on the site - i'm 46 and would like to lose between 25 and 40 pounds.

edited to clarify:  old timer on cc; been here over a year - 46 is so NOT old!  at all!!

Hey everyone-and welcome to the new members.  Elizabeth2008-I too am a stress eater- a little of my life story...

I am 46 years old-3 kids (divorced their father and raised them on my own for 7 years).  While I was married I ballooned to 285 pounds.  After we separated and divorced I worked on getting my life and my kids lives on a better playing field.  Went back to trade school-got a job and then a better job.  I went on the SlimFast diet program and began exercising.  I parked as far from the front door of my office and walked 3 flights of stairs daily plus exercised at home every night after dinner.  I eventually lost 87 pounds and was pleased with myself.

I then met my current partner moved from Oklahoma to Newfoundland, Canada and began a new life.  With the stress of moving to a new country, new job, new community I became lax with my eating habits stopped exercising and  regained 27 of those pounds back.

Now I am back on track with the help of CC and all the wonderful members here. I have begun counting my calories I try to keep no higher than 1400 a day.  I am exercising and walking 3.7k  3-4 times a week.

This is not a diet for me.  It's a life change.  I have lost 19 pounds and an am on my way to lose another 33.

Anyway, a long post-but that's my story..

Della

Hey to all.  At 46 Beth, I wouldn't call you an old timer - I'm 44 and I think several others here are in their 40's.  I've been happy with my eating and exercising habits all week.  This site is very inspirational.  For the first time in the 20 years I've been married, I sat down and figured out a 1200 calorie meal plan for the next 5 days.  Of course my family can have bigger portions of the same meals.  Then, I went to the grocery store and bought only the things on the list.  Planning meals is my downfall.  I tend to fix whatever is in the fridge/freezer - using a lot of mushroom and onion soup.  It's time to wake up the taste buds with healthier foods and spices.  My husband is a long distance truck driver and is only home on the weekends.  My son is 17 and works after school.  So for the majority of the week, it's just my daughter, 14, and me.  That makes cooking easier!  Anyone have other menus that don't require strange ingredients?  I do much better when I have a pre-made menu - all I have to do is modify it and go shopping.  I'm also on a tight budget.  We eat a lot of venison - which everyone here loves.  I haven't really delved into the recipe sector of this site yet.  Any suggestions?

Carla

^^to toby:  thanks, but i meant i was an old timer here at cc!  i've been here over a year...but thanks for the chuckle!

I am officially... SORE!!  I went to my hubby's work and got a 30-minute massage and boy did she dig into me... good golly miss molly she worked on those muscles (especially the glutes)... So I can officially say "that woman is a pain in the tooshy" LOL!!  I'm going back in two weeks... I'm a glutten for punishment LOL!  Rochelle

Good Morning everyone, WOW we have a lot of new people here.  Welcome Machelleg444, karchamberlin, toby2indy, elizabeth2008, flipimom3, and Beth. Hope I got everyone, you will like this forum.

I did my weigh in girls waited the week and lost 1/2 lbs...... ughhhhh.  I am a bit frustrated with this, I have only lost 2 lbs in the last month.  I know I know slower is better but this is a bit too slow for me.  Need to do more exercise I know because I know that I am eating what I should, staying within 1200 calories a day.  I did start the one more day of cleaning each week and that is going to work out good, stand to do the folding, started some spring cleaning early and trying to add in anything else that will burn more calories.  Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Hope you feel better Ro, I thought that massages were suppose to make you feel BETTER... Have a wonderful day everyone.  Betty

Carla, there are a ton of sites you can have email you recipes each day on-line.  Healthy ones and well not so healthy ones.  I get one from Campbell's kitchen (I too like to use soups). and one from the food network they have healthy recipes.  The food network emails a newsletter but then I go into the recipes.  There are a lot more you can choose from.  You use the ones you like and discard the others.  If you put in venison recipes in a search I am sure you will pull up a site for that as well. It has helped me be a bit more creative with cooking. Good luck. Betty
