Supplement 1: Stages of Dieting

Introduction: Why the other diets just don't work
So many of us have tried them all: Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, none of them work. Some of them help you learn how to get the weight off, but the moment you stop, BANG!, you're back up again. Well, that sucks, doesn't it?
That's because the diet industry, all of it is, is designed to make sure that you, the average overweight American, don't succeed. After all, if you finally lose the weight and keep it off, than suddenly you don't need to keep buying their stuff. And they're out alot of money.

Here on C-C, though, we can teach you, from experience, how to lose weight, how to keep it off and we don't even charge!

so who is really promoting a diet? hmmmmmmmmmmm
#162 christinak74 Sep 30 2006 19:44
I think the only thing being promoted here is basic nutrition. Read it dodgeman....you might learn something.
#163 hkellick Sep 30 2006 20:03
Who is promoting this "diet"? The site, in general. Past that, no one.

And I put diet in paranthesis because it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. If you read it (and I strongly suspect you have not), you'd see it's the same shpiel I've said from the start: Eat healthy, exercise, get active, set realistic goals, stay motivated and positive.

This post has helped unconfuse alot of people on this site, and you'd have to be pretty darned sure of yourself if you think you've got the capacity to challenge it.

I think I just heard the theme from "A Fist Full of Dollars".

#172 slimbell Oct 12 2006 06:05
Weight Watchers is a life-style change not a diet. It is all about portion control and it does work!
#173 hkellick Oct 20 2006 15:16
So many of you have lost the way... Starvation Diets, Cabbage Suit Diets. None of them work. Not long term. You get sick of Cabbage Soup. You get sick, period, starving yourself.

That ain't the way, folks.

THIS is the way, right here. This is the golden path. Read it, learn it, live it. It's simple, folks. Eat at a reasonable calorie deficit, exercise, lose fat. I'm living proof. Lots of us on these boards are.

Come back home. This is the way to lose weight safely and effectively. And if you don't lose weight following this "Diet", then I'll eat my hat :p

Bump Bump Bump

Because I too am sick of the cabbage soup and starvation diets...
#175 salome190 Oct 20 2006 17:52
I think it is time to bump this up again.  There is a lot of great ideas here.

Please take the time to read through them.  Tag it for later reference.
#176 dodgeman_1000 Oct 20 2006 19:27
i think it is funny that you guys on here keep bashing other ideas. Your way may be fine, for you. But to say that not consuming as many calories is starving, well then what are you doing?

the same thing, consuming less calories than before, that equals to using stored energy or (fat) the end result is the same, regardless of how fast you do it.

call it what ever you want, but in order to lose weight you have to consume less than before

but telling people they can't do it except your way is lying
#177 salome190 Oct 20 2006 19:32
I haven't bashed any other ideas but offer a different approach.  It is up to each individual person to decide what is the best course for them.  Some things are going to work well for some people and others are not.

I personally would suggest trying to go with a program that you are going to be able to stick with long-term.

Also a program that does more good for your body than damage in the long-run.
#178 stainofmind Oct 20 2006 19:49
We don't bash others ideas. It's just that weight loss is a science. It's not a gimick to make money. You don't have to be hungry all the time. You don't have to be limited to one type of food. HK's post is only informing those interested in losing on a FREE, NON STARVATION, NON SINGLE FOOD way.

While it may apear that others ways are being bashed, coments are only made because we have educated ourselves. We understand the devistating effects of "diets", of starvation, or deprivation. Most of us are living proof, because we have had great sucsess in not only losing the weight, but KEEPING it off.

Keeping it off is the key. You can lose all the weight you want. You can lose 100 lbs by eating 400 calories a day. But if you do that, eventiually you will have to either continue to eat that way for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE or up those cals and gain weight. So many people are looking for a quick fix, so many people get ripped off, because they don't focus on the long term. Quick fixes will give you results. But they wont work in the long term.

this is great   everything in a nut shell.

Dodgeman please see post:

 http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/16332.html

This is how one should effectively state an argument or position of one's theory. No bashing, just honest debate and education.

You people refuse to back up your promotion with hard facts. That my friend is why you can not validate your D-I-E-T.

"call it what ever you want, but in order to lose weight you have to consume less than before" YES! But not below a medically safe consumption level. You need a minimal amount of calories to keep your body working efficiently.

What is it that your not understanding? We know the z diet works (jumping from an airplane without a parachute will get you to the ground, but realistically, how safe is that?) but research has also told us that such a low caloric intake is unhealthy for the physiology of the human body and has damaging effects on its longevity.
