| Fending off The Freshman Fifteen... | ||
| Jun 02 2008 17:58 | ||
For those in college, or those quickly approaching it, beware!!! The Freshman Fifteen - the bane of college calorie counters everywhere - is ready to take a new group of victims on campuses nationwide this fall! For those who have felt the pain of the 15lbs of cafeteria food, hanging out in the dorm, not having your highschool extracurriculars, and just being too darned lazy to get out and about, join me in losing that weight! :) As an upcoming junior in college, i'm still waging war against the last 10lbs - who's with me?!? Weeeeell I estimate I had roughly 3500 calories yesterday, although I really have no idea...that's what alcohol will do to you, especially when you're drinking strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas! |

Good news guys! Grad party season is nearing an end but my weight has NOT gone up. I'm still 114.2 this morning! Hopefully within a few days I'll be back in the 113's (I woke up the other day and I was 113.6, hopefully I'll fluctuate back down) |

Way to go, Lea! That's quite a feat, all things considered! Well, I had a really fun weekend :) My boyfriend came in to visit and taught me how to play tennis (which I'm sure was good exercise!) and we saw WALL-E which was adorable. Props to pixar for making a movie with minimal dialogue that engaging! lol. I was good all weekend, until last night... I had only had about 1000cals, but I got stuck at Steak and Shake with some friends (after I'd already eaten). Having waitressed before, I always feel really bad taking up a spot without ordering anything... so I had one of those turtle, caramel, nut sippable sundays... deliiiiiiicious. They were out of nuts, but I estimate that it was still a whopping 900 calories... Hopefully the tennis made up for some of it! lol. I needed to cycle some anyway, and I haven't gained - been the same since Friday. I notice that since the scale change and all, I'm losing some again =) I think in a week or two I'm going to give myself what would have been my reward for 125, which IDK if I will ever reach. I figure I'm back under 130 and I've been good about my exercise, so I think I've earned it. Tanning visits! Hooray :) First time in... at least 6 months. ^_^ Hope you guys had great weekends! I'm actually looking FORWARD to weigh in on Wednesday! :) *EDIT* |

Whenever I'm sitting with people waitressing it's SO hard for me just to sip water and sit there! And I don't want to tell whoever I'm with "No we can't go there". Like yesterday at my graduation party one of my aunts had these diet bars that we were supposed to put in the fridge for her to eat. I could NEVER do that. First of all I picked the menu at my house so we had a gigantic fruit salad, a large piece of grilled salmon, tons and tons of grilled vegetables, a salad with grilled chicken and balsamic vinegar. Of course then for the non healthy eaters we had hot dogs and a sub tray, but it was VERY easy to eat a healthy meal at my party. And still I saw her just eating a diet meal bar (which I sneaked a peak at - 160 cals. How could that POSSIBLY fill anyone up) and a diet desert bar (90 cals, definitely acceptable but not to take to a party!) Like would it really have been THAT difficult to avoid the cake? I did it and it was my party! I didn't even want it, I had filled up on fruits and veggies. It's just stuff like this that shows me how much better off I am making healthy habits now than being 45, overweight, and bringing food substitutes to parties |

Lea - Wow, yeah, I could never pull off your aunt's diet either! IDK, I think all of those things are fad diets and I'm surprised that people can keep the weight off doing them... By the time they're finished with their diet (consuming 800 cals/day), their metabolism has slowed down so much that eating normal food again (say 1500cal/day) makes them gain weight! There's no way I could drink Slim fast for the rest of my life... yuck. That sort of thing is just a bandaid for what has to be a lifestyle change... With a party like that, I'll usually bring something healthy if I'm REALLY concerned that there won't be any health food there... but I don't get invited to many of those, so its not usually an issue, lol! Sounds like you had a great time, and its very considerate of you to have provided different types of food to your guests! Props! :) |

Well, its Wednesday again! WEIGH IN: 129.5lbs (on my new scale!!!) Weight Goal for next week: 129.5lbs (Since this weekend is the 4th, and next week will be TTOM when I weigh, I'm just going to try and maintain my weight. I'm going to my Grandmother's and its HARD to eat right there!) Work-Out Goal for next week: at least 2x doing 30-30-30 (and some running around/playing since I won't be at home..) Down 2.0lbs from 131.5lbs last Wednesday :) Yay! I'm super excited... I did colorguard in highschool (with the marching band) and I used to spin rifle/sabre, but the summer after my senior year, another girl stole my rifle out of the back of my car. I've been trying to get a new one for aaaages and finally, Monday, the people called to tell me the that they have them in stock again! (The specific one that I had, though all rifles are different.) The sabre belonged to the school, but I really missed my rifle. I ordered one and I'm really hoping it'll come tomorrow before I go out of town :D It'll be a GREAT way to work on my guns. :P That pun was for you, Julie. |

Woo! I had such a good week! I did things that would have caused me to eat really unhealthy, and yet I didn't! On Sunday was my own graduation party and that entire day I probably had about 1300 cals. I didn't log it exactly but I estimated in my head. Yesterday I went to an amusement park and I got a kids meal that actually turned out to be kind of nutritious. It had 4 chicken nuggets (yuck), string cheese, baby carrots, and a 100 cal pack. Definitely the kind of meal I can eat! Then I weighed in this morning and....
113.2!!! - my lowest weight ever! I'm very happy :) |

Well, it's TTOM, but it's the third day so I think the water weight has mostly gone away by now...and I weighed in at 153.8! That's down from 155.2 a week ago. So I'm pretty happy with that. Goal for next week: 152.8 or better! I've been really really busy lately getting ready for this horse show I have this weekend, so that's why I haven't been on here that much...and now I gotta run to the tack shop. Talk to you all later :). |

See how quickly I can shed this. Gym and soccer tonight. |

WOW. Today I've dropped to 186.5 lbs.
Yes, I am weighing myself at the same time each day. I am all over the place. |

Carrie - Great job!! I bet all of that running around is good for you too! Good luck with your show :) Matty - Sounds like maybe you had a lot of water-weight on you. I get that way a lot when I give myself a few days off. In a day or two it disappears. That's great though, that its going back down :) Keep it up! |

Ugh, I totally feel you. My floormate in first year got hit pretty hard and gained almost 25 pounds. I'm one of the lucky few who actually lose weight when stressed. But I still became a little "squishy," lol. Too much cookie dough icecream me thinks. |

I would just like to say that I joined CC exactly five weeks ago today, and as of this morning I have lost 4.8 lbs! I forgot to weigh until after I ate breakfast, too, although that doesn't seem to make a huge difference with me. So, yay! About five pounds in five weeks! I love it when things work out like they're supposed to. Matt, I think guys fluctuate way more than girls do. Some of my guy friends have told me they can go up or down ten pounds in just a couple days. I wonder if it's because you have more muscles to retain more water...? Well, I'm off to a horse show for the weekend, sooo I'll talk to you all on Monday :). |

Guys we're all doing so well! Congratulations Carrie - 5 lbs in 5 weeks is a great accomplishment!! For me the weight is coming off. I weigh everyday and I know it's not completely accurate because of fluctuations, but the lowest weight keeps getting lower and lower. Today it was 111.6! I couldn't even believe it! I was in shock and so happy :) I guess all of my hardwork is FINALLY paying off! I love it! In bad news ,I got a really bad sunburn. Everytime I move my body like, tingles, it's all over! And now my butt looks so white :-P Good luck with your horse show Carrie! |

GL at the horse show, Carrie! And way to go on those 5lbs!!! That's awesome :D
I'm just trying like hell to maintain this weekend... there is NOTHING healthy in this house. Chips, dip, candy, sweet tea, burgers, sugary cereal... I mean, I couldn't eat healthy unless I just didn't eat - and that's not very healthy. I tried SO hard to be good yesterday... I didn't eat breakfast because my grandma made these HUGE bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits for everyone (but me) and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Might've been a bad choice... I was hungry all day and so I'd stop by the fritos bad thinking "A handful of these is probably way better than one of those biscuits"... 3 servings later, that might not've been the case. that afternoon, we didn't have a formal lunch, just kind of snacked... I ended up going to get a nice outfit for a work-related thing (Size 4 dress pants and a small shirt! That was cool... - Old Navy has a BIG sale right now ;D) so my boyfriend wanted some Starbucks... he insisted on getting me someting, and since I don't drink coffee, I got a tall hot chocolate with non-fat milk and no whipped cream. Well, the lady put whip in it anyway. /curses... And I ended up getting a little carton of goldfish for ~300cal because it was the ONLY mildy healthy small-packaged item at the grocery store check out... I was feeling almost sick from not having eaten much... ugh 0_o So when I got back that night, I had 2 burgers, no bun, just the meat, and 2 slices of tomato for dinner. Later, everyone started having margaritas and I did a good job there... didn't touch them.. but ended up going after some wavy lay's and french onion dip instead. YIKES!
:)

I'm sure you'll be fine.
I ate a huge steak and lobster dinner yesterday and today, I weigh 184 pounds! I haven't weighed that little since I've looked at a scale! Holy ****. |

Way to go, Matty! :) Yumm... steak and lobster - I'm jealous. Sounds tasty!
I did it - one whole day without annnnnnnnny chips. :P It might seem silly, but those were so hard to resist. Ok, I'm going to try to do it again today. After this, I'll be back home with my beloved veggies and in the clear ;) hehe |

Congratulations on the no chips thing Heather! I know that must be pretty hard. I don't get salty cravings, I get sweet cravings, and for me that's like making it through a birthday party or something with no cake. I had a great 4th of July (socialization-wise) but a terrible 4th of July (eating-wise). Let's just say home cooked italian meal (huge chicken parm, breadstick, baked macaroni, sauteed veggies) with desert (sugar free cheesecake, tons of fruit) and then later I met up with my boyfriend for fireworks and we were walking around town and of course! I had to get an ice cream. Luckily I got sugar free. But still, I felt unbelievably bloated and disgusting, especially after my milestone that morning. The next day was a new day, I did a lot of extra working out and now my body is feeling it. I tried a new class the gym called body circuits - I don't know if anybody's gyms offers anything similar, but it was GREAT. It combined cardio and strength training for the most intense hour of my life. We would do lunges or squats or some other difficult thing (crab walk, crawling, jumping, you name it!) across an entire room and then jog back to the start for a straight half hour. Then for a half hour we did some weights, sit ups, push ups. We did more squats and squat jumps. All of it was fast - my body was literally pouring sweat. When I got home I was so hot I jumped in the pool and ended up doing 20 minutes of laps. Then later I went rollerblading because I was bored, I ended up burning about 2400 calories. My eating day wasn't bad, I had a healthy breakfast and lunch but for dinner the bf and I made pancakes. I still ended up with a gigantic deficit but the nutrition might not have been great. Today I'm eating clean and drinking tons of water and tomorrow I'll venture back on the scale. This class is at 10 o clock every saturday and I want to make sure I always do it because it's so intense and I want to get better at it. I hope everybody else had a good holiday weekend! |

My weekend was fun but exhausting!! The horse show went from 9 in the morning until after 8 both Saturday and Sunday, and it was soooo hot! We didn't get home until after 10 last night. I had a horrible weekend eating-wise, because I was just eating whatever was available whenever I had time. Yesterday I barely ate because I was so hot and we didn't really have anything left except breakfast food. I probably still had a good amount of calories though, because I had two of these big muffins. Oh, and Saturday night I drank, too. Somehow I managed not to gain, though. Actually, I lost 0.2 pounds. This morning I weighed exactly 153. Today I'm doing nothing but laying around and recovering, lol. |
