What's one so-called "diet food" tht you relly detest/dislike/avoid/hate?

I hate fat free cheese. like kraft fat free cheese slices.  blech double blech!!

I am having a hard time with the sodium.  I am vegetarian.  If I eat plain foods...like cooking lentils, and other legumes instead of using the canned counterparts, and eating edamame,peas...then I do pretty good with the sodium.  BUt that gets boring after awhile.  I often make casseroles and then up goes the sodium.  I havent tried the "no salt salt" yet.. I hear they taste kinda funny.  cheese, cottage cheese are high in sodium.  The morning star vege bacon and that type of food is even higher in sodium.  any suggestions?

I am really enjoying this  post.

Karenie, you will be soooo proud of me ... yesterday for lunch my proteins were tofu and edamame!!! (I strive for at least 10-12 meat-free meals per week!)

Morning All-

I'm still struggling with out of control eating.  Hopefully today I will be back on track.  Seems a little daunting with the long weekend here.  There isn't a particular "diet food" that I dislike, however I've had to learn to appreciate fruits and veggies more.  It does seem to be happening though.  Have a good day-Dianne

Dianne, hang in there! Drink lots and lots of liquids ... bouillons with chili sauce, crystal light, flavored ice teas ... even sugar free popsicles... and sugar free gum ... sometimes those things help me avoid eating more than I've "budgeted!"

YOU CAN DO THIS!

Have you tried salt-free spike?  It's not really trying to taste like salt, it's just a mixture of herbs and spices.  I use it in casseroles, lentil soup, and other potentially bland things like that.  It's really yummy on veggie burgers, too.

Molly - I love the question of the day idea!

Sorry I'm a bit late, I reached my original goal a few weeks ago and it's seems to have taken me off track for a while... but I'm back at it... trying for another 10 pounds!

Summer goal is to get outside everyday!

Maybe even walk on the beach. (it’s less than two blocks away)

As for the questions...

What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)

I start each morning with a glass of water, an hour of Slim in 6 and another glass of water.  The rest of the day I have a glass of water after each time I go to the bathroom. (My husband calls it “reloading”).

What's one so-called "diet food" that you really detest/dislike/avoid/hate?

I avoid artificial sweeteners of any kind… mainly because they give me headaches and migraines.

Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?)

I detest fish… can’t even stand the smell.

Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?)

I used to detest fish. The smell alone made me sick! About a month ago, though, I made myself try a bite of my father's lemon sea bass or something...I don't know, but it was really good, and since then I've been trying everything! I'm actually allergic to shellfish, but last week I actually ordered blackened salmon at a returaunt and it was wonderful. Mmmm, and dynamite rolls with blackened tuna. So delicious! Last night my mom and I made some really good salmon salad, actually. It was just 7 oz packaged pink salmon, 3 harboiled eggs, and about three tbsp fat free mayo. It was delicious, we ate it open face with some fresh salad from our garden.

No fishy supplements for me. I did have a beta fish that lived for four years, though. It was green, I was five, and it was named greeny. : )

Hey all- trying to zigzag my calories and eat a little less today, since the past few days I have been topping out at around 1500-1600, with exercise and weight training. So today just trying to eat around 1200 calories, do 40 minutes of cardio and HIIT later on when it's a little cooler, and eat a huge dinner of green veggies and chicken breast.

Macy

Hi all,

karenie:  I can also highly recommend VegeSal   Very tastey on popcorn and, like spike it doesn't try to taste like salt, just a very tasty alternative

Dianne:  Hang in there!  Your post made me realize how I'm not alone and even if I completely blow my calories, I can keep coming back here for help and tomorrow is always a new day.

Molly, thanks for the pics of the kitties!  I love kitties but my doggies do not so pics are as close as I can get!  And the quilt is very nice and very stylish, under 20 bucks huh?  Wow

As for fish: I am from the midwest where the only fresh fish you can really get is fresh water stuff and even that is not always fresh.  I never liked it but like fighead I am trying new things and hoping to come across recipes that I really enjoy.  I did find a tilapia recipe by weighwatchers that is wonderful!  If anyone wants it I can provide a link.  I do eat canned tuna and shrimp but other than that it's not a mainstay in my house.  I do, however, take a fish oil supplement and it does not cause me to burp up fishy gas, which is nice!

Happy weekend all and wish me luck on avoiding those s'mores when I go camping.  I'd like to keep them to only one a night.

I love fish, especially when it's dressed up as sashimi or sushi rolls.  Ahi and salmon are my favorites cooked.  Raw just ahi.

I've got 3 days of BJJ for the week and 2 more days of dancing so I'll be in good shape.  I may make a BJJ workout tomorrow, in fact I may have to since I think we're off on Monday.

"Do you like fish?" uh absolutely NOT! It was something I was made to eat when little now I can't stand it! I will however eat seafood - crab, lobster, scallops and shrimp! Love seafood. Was going to try a fish oil supplement but haven't yet.

whitetigress - ohhh good I'm not the only one who doesn't like fish!

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND ....

What special dieting challenges will you face (or did you face) this Memorial Day Weekend? And what's your plan for dealing with those challenges?

Well I'm cooking so I get to plan the menu - makes it much easier to stay on track! I love dessert so I'm making a new recipe with all low fat/sugar free stuff so we'll see how it turns out. Playing golf, have lots of yardwork to do so hoping that will keep me from munching. Need to remember to eat...when I get busy outside I forget to eat then come in starving and eat the wrong things! LOL

Do you like fish?

Generally yes, although as a child I wouldn't eat any seafood.  Now I like most things but occasionally I get a little of that returning ick feeling from childhood, not really sure why.

I love sushi with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel.  i also eat shrimp, crab, scallops, salmon tuna, trout, pretty much anything grilled sounds yummy.  i don't take a fish oil supplement although I hear it's good for you.

Memorial Day Challenges

I suppose for me my challenge is not specific, simply that anything that removes me from me regular routine could possibly screw me up. I know that having a lot of free time can sometimes be a hindrance for me, good eating wise.  However, I have plans to work out hard all 3 days, thereby minimizing any potential effects should I indulge.  But really, I think I will be ok as long as I keep recording my intake.  Happy Memorial Day weekend everybody!

Good Morning and thank you for the encouragment.

I do like most types of fish and though I can be reluctant to buy/cook it- I always enjoy it when I do.  I had fish for supper last night- but it was fried so that negated most of the positive effects.

Weekend challenges: Like Melly, having free time can be troublesome and something I still have to work on.  I'm also going through a bit of rough patch with my son and find myself reverting back to comforting myself with food.  I need to pick better foods if I am going to do this.

Have a great weekend All-Dianne

It's raining here. Raining on Memorial Day Weekend. Raining in May. This is absolutely delightful -- but unheard of weather.  Of course, there goes my plans for biking this morning, oh well. Maybe it will clear up later this afternoon ... or maybe I will just walk on my treadmill or ride my recumbant exercise bike.  (Heck, maybe I will just snuggle with kitties under the covers or take a hot bubble bath!)  Since this is the first weekend with my wonderful DH gone, I am trying to stay busy and positive and not get too mired and mopey with missing him. (Hmmm... is mopey even a word?)

The scale is up a teensy bit, but giving the time of the month, I'm not surprised and I'm trying not to let those little ups get to me. (Funny, the downs never make me feel discouraged, LOL!) I am actually weighing daily right now because I want to accurately chart my daily/weekly fluctuations. But I am still only logging a weekly weight for CC+ ... the rest of the logging is just on paper so I can see how my body responds.

Drink your water ... stay on track!

MOLLY

I'm really sore today.  I did a 50 minute aerobics workout yesterday that was more high-impact than my usual one.  My knees are really tight, and my butt hurts from so many squats.  Oh, well.  My weight is up a tiny bit today, but I think it's muscular water retention.

While I"m really glad to not have class on Monday, this isn't really going to be a festive weekend for me.  The end of the term is looming, so I get to spend this lovely, sunny weekend doing intense research.  Most of it is for a project on the cardiovascular heath effects of the Chernobyl disaster on children.  (Yes, that is officially the most depressing research topic ever.)  Oh, the joyous life of a grad student.  Along with that, the biggest challenge will be avoiding the constant snacking that tempts me when I'm reading.  I'm going to be taking walking breaks all weekend, which help keep me alert, and keep my burn meter up where it should be.  And I have no excuse not to drink a ton of water, since I'll be near my kitchen and bathroom all weekend.

I hope everybody has a more festive holiday weekend than me!

QUESTION OF THE WEEKEND ....

What special dieting challenges will you face (or did you face) this Memorial Day Weekend? And what's your plan for dealing with those challenges?

MOLLY

Molly, my plan is to stay focus, and not let my boyfriend drag me to all his family cookouts.. I hate it.. He does this every year. I go to like 3 of them with him, and if we don't have plates of food from each one of them.. We didn't get anything in his book.. The words Free FOOD comes to mind with him, and I don't want to see ribs, I don't want to see tons of chicken, and I don't care for all the food loaded in salt and carbs.. So I will be staying at home.. Cooking a healty meal here, and he is going to like it, and love it. We are not going to all those family cookouts this year.. I will not have him drag me or my children to them.. Everything is loaded in FAT! I want to grill at home.. Turkey burgers, chicken, and no pork.. I mean really.. Beef ribs.. Not pork ribs.. YUK! I don't eat pork.. So you can see why I say.. YUK! Salads and greens with out the fat back in them.. Healthy Cooking... That's my way of doing it this year, and every year to come.. Then on top of that. I don't to walk by and veiw all the tables loaded in pies, cakes, and homemade cookies. I just can't do it this year.. To many set traps, and I don't want to trip any of them and get trapped into the trap of weight gain.. All because of this all going weekend cookout. Not only that. I'm working out cardio this weekend.. Lite.. To make sure I don't gain a pound..

ooo I'm joining this.

GOALS/plans:

- drink water endlessly.

- be able to run a mile without stopping. I don't believe I can do it.

- log everything I eat

and more.

What's one tip/suggestion you have for encouraging yourself to DRINK MORE WATER? (What works for you? What are you going to try?)

I'm going to...bring water everywhere I go, and as soon as I wake up drink at least one cup, not just a swig to wash down vitamins. What works for me is Crystal Light or a slice of lemon. Anyone who says "oh but those calories add up", it's better than fruit juice and such and even if you had 3 L, at 10 calories per 500 mL, you're having just 60 calories. Besides, I usually dilute it even more.

What's one so-called "diet food" that you really detest/dislike/avoid/hate?

Artificial sugar. It's not very good, even though I love Crystal Light. It tastes odd.

Do you like fish? Do you eat fish? What sort of fish will you eat? And do you take a fish-oil supplement? (What the heck, do you own fish?)

Shrimp and salmon. Other things, not usually. I don't take supplements, but I do own fish : )

Water seems to be the hardest for me right now.  I'm getting about 1/2 of what I should which means that my lips are a bit dry.  Going to go drink some right away.

I'm not really worrying about counting this weekend.  I am, but I'm not all at the same time.  The only party that I'm going to is on Monday and that'll be a BBQ and I'm bringing my magnificent pumpkin muffins.  If I want it I'll eat it and if I don't then I'll leave it be.

I did pretty good, well sorta.  1614 cal, 30% fat, 21.8%protein, 48.2%carbs, 39gfiber  sodium was through the roof. 2900mg of sodium.  going to try some of the spike.  see how it is.  I had chilli beans and veg hot dogs and the sodium in the chilli was 1100 for 1 cup, so I had 1/2 cup .  damn sodium!!
