Hi everyone-
Revins-I weigh in on Saturdays too. I hope this Saturday is an improvment from last week.
you got one right here. 47 male. lost 45 lbs in one year. now for some reason things have slowed down. I lost only 7 lbs in the last 3 month. its a little bit of a bummer but you gatta always look at the positive if you want to survive.
That hard coming from a pessimist.
Im not on a diet, I am changing my life style.
Welcome to the group abner and good luck with your "Life Style Change" you are right it is NOT a diet.
Question for you guys, Ro and Nanamoss you both weight in on Saturday's do you like that better than every day? When I started ccp I weighted in on Fridays but then as I dropped lbs I got a bit obsessed with it and weighted in every day. Now I skip Sundays (with everything). I am thinking I should go back to weighing in one day a week again with the going up and down .5 lbs each day it is a bit disappointing. When do all of you weight in and how often?
I haven't changed in 12 days now (other than the .5 up and down). I know I need to up/change my exercise to change that and only I can do that...today I will be adding to my workout and making the treadmill more intense. It is 3 degrees outside right now so I will not be going anywhere till after noon... Have a great day everyone. Betty
There is a great article in the NYT Health supporting the CC system and the discussions here.
"Slowly but surely the pounds will come off. And as Aesop said, slow and steady does indeed win the race. Gradual weight loss, achieved on an eating-and-exercise regimen that you can sustain indefinitely, is most likely to be permanent weight loss." So true but what about my plans for maintaining? I've always eaten healthy, just a bit too much healthy food. I think my body will do the maintaining for me by refusing to lose more weight (which is okay at this point) while I keep up the eating-and-exercise regimen.
Anyone else working on maintenance on 08?
If you go to the NYT site, read the article on dealing with clutter. Seems people who clean out their houses also drop unwanted pounds!

Betty...
On Saturday I get up, go to the bathroom (as in go potty LOL... I need every ounce I can get off LOL) and then weigh. Weight fluctuates so much during the week that it's hard on the mind if you weigh every day. I'd rather just do it once a week. Like if I've not been drinking enough water, and then suddenly I do.. then my weight might go up a pound a day or so later because it's holding onto it thinking that we're getting ready for a 40 day wilderness journey or something I guess LOL. But then after I "re-assure" my body that "it's OK... I'm taking care of ya" type of thing, the weight comes off. The body is an amazing creation and can really give us signals if we will listen (which a lot of times I do the "La-La-La I don't hear you La-La-La" thing).
I've added a high protein shake into my mix of things, drinking it after my treadmill workout. I read that the muscles are in an anabolic(?) state after a workout and that 1 hour period right after is very important and if Protein's not there, the muscles can actually deteriorate. Yikes! LOL
I weigh in tomorrow.... I'm so excited!!
HI Betty,
I was weighing in every day too-but a few months ago I changed to once a week weigh ins and one a month measurements. I find it works better for me. I pretty well follow Revins routine-get up, bathroom, strip and weigh in. Then I log it in my food/exercise diary. After that I record my measurements.
Della
Hi Ro & Della, thanks for the input, I do what you both do get up, bathroom then weight in only every day. I am going to start to weight in once a week as well. It IS too hard to have the fluctuations each day.
Ro, I heard the same thing about eating within an hour after you work out, I like your shake thing I used to drink them often and got out of the habit maybe I should start again. I did read the article it was good thank you. It is surprising how many calories you burn cleaning, I have decided to add one more day to the week for cleaning for an additional exercise, I figure I will do spring cleaning early. Along with making my workouts a bit more intense, I know this is something I need to do I am not active enough and that is why I have stayed the same weight for the last two weeks, and put the weight on in the first place.
Good luck with your weigh ins today ladies, have a great day. Betty
I too only weigh myself once a week on Fridays after the usual bathroom routine. I picked Fridays cuz I can be faithful to my lifestyle change thru the week, but sometimes slip on the weekend. That's my theory and it works for me.
Hey, I've be going to the gym routinely, and doing different cardios like the treadmill and the eliptical. I'm still working up to a longer time and more resistence, but things are going well so far. It seems to be working, I lost one pound this week. Yea!
Great article Trish, thanks for posting it.
I also, started a new afghan, one for my niece who is due with a little boy in the end of Feb. Its about 1/3 done.
Take care all
Theresa
OMgosh!!! Guys and gal, I LOST again this week!! I'm like..... stoked??? LOL!!
I'm DOWN another 1.8 POUNDS, so that makes my TOTAL LOSS at 23.2 POUNDS!!!! This is so cool!!! And BTW, the Protein made such a difference as far as my muscles feeling better and me not being hungry... wow!! I'm still just staring at those numbers... I feel like they do on "The Biggest Loser" LOL!!!! Yeah!! ![]()
Way to go revins! Awesome news. I am down this week as well. I feel very pumped and excited with my over all progress.
I don't have the protein drinks available here locally. So I usually eat a bowl of Dannon lite yougurt (50 cals per 1/2 cup) add blue berries and granola. I really enjoy this as a treat.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
And Welcome abner!
Just starting today...44...and would love to not have to go it alone.
Been advised that I have 38 lbs to loose. This is to take me to September 26th...LOL! Short journey when you think about it. I am motivated on this first day, yet know that having someone else to chat with would make things more interesting.
Good luck to us all!
Hey Nana and Revins GREAT GOING Keep up the good work!
Just a suggestion, if you don't have the protein drinks available, Try Soy Milk, I use it because I'm lactose intolerant and they have made great stride to make it taste very good. I drink a 6 oz glass when I come home from the gym.
Jim Here,
Just signed up yesterday. 43, maried for 21 years 2 kids, 4 grandkids and my daughter is getting married an May for the 2nd time but this time to a great guy. I am going to do my best to drop 13 pounds per month until the blessed date which will put me in close to the 200 lb. range. I believe in doing this I will also drop about 7-8 inches off my waist. Let's face it I don't want my Tux to be made by Ahmed the Tent Maker.
My company has just started a 10,000 Steps a Day contest so I'm sure this will help along w/ watching my food consumption. I hope to get encouragement from the wealth of tools and participats on on this web-site as well.
Wish me luck,
Jim
Welcome Jim and lam7 to our group. You'll find the CC site a wonderful asset to your weight goals. The people here offer encouragement. Just when you feel down and ready to throw in the towel they will lift you up. At least they have for me.
Welcome to our group Jim and Iam7, you will find lots of support here. Congratulations Nana, Ro and Theresa for your loss, so proud of you guys for your hard work.
Thanks everyone for your input on weigh ins. I am going to do Fridays, I agree with you Theresa about the weekend thing. It is hard to get used to I wanted to jump on that scale this morning but didn't. I think it will be much better for my mind to do it only once a week. Beautiful day again yesterday so took a long walk with hubby. Second Sunday in a row.
Taking my Mom out today for our weekly shopping trip lots of walking and we always go out to lunch. I will go to Olive Garden they have a wonderful chicken dish that is low cal and a salad. Have a wonderful day everyone. Betty
Hi and welcome to all our newcomers.
I am excited to join the losing club (LOL). After 3 weeks of no weight loss - I finally managed to actually lose 1 pound.
Betty - I weigh in on Monday mornings. I find it forces me to be very careful on Sunday - to make up for over-indulging on Friday night and Saturday. My hubby is going away next week and he is probably wondering why I'm so happy ( poor guy) he has no idea that I'm thinking - "good - now I can stay on my diet over the weekend". Hmmm - He doesn't try to sabatoge me - but he loves to go out to eat and I hate the fact that it is so hard to be careful of your calories when you are dining out. The portions are so large - and I am always tempted to eat stuff I don't even keep in the house.
Well - I sounds like everyone is off to a positive start this week. Yay us!!!! Lets be real losers....(LOL)
MJ
Good morning all I have this great magazine "body and soul" that has lots of good healty advice in it. Did you know....
That your body learns your workouts in three weeks and then it takes less calories to do that workout. It recommends changing your workout either the intensity or weights or something every three weeks to maintain calories burned hence pounds loss...
Also, someone mentioned about how much water to drink in one of their journals, I also read in this months magazine you should drink 1/2 oz of water for every pound you are, example a 150 lb person would drink 9.3, 8oz glasses of water a day. So divide your weight in two, then divide that by the size of glass/water bottle you use each day and that is how many you would want to try to drink. Have a great day Betty
Good Morning Betty and everyone else! Hope today is going great for everyone.
Very interesting article Betty. I wasn't aware of the specifics although I'm sure we can attest to the longer you perform the same task/exercise the easier it becomes. So that makes sense that it requires less burn/loss to perform it.
And also thanks for the water input. I have signed up for the water challenge posted by Coach_K. The link she attached suggested I drink 112 ounces of water daily. That seemed like alot. But if I follow the math you outlined I come to the same amount. So here's to ya! *raises a nice cool glass of water* ![]()
Should I use a cleanse to jump-start my diet?
A cleanse is unnecessary, but a short-term fast like the Master Cleanse you describe, might serve as a tangible signal of change and... Read more
