Beene, well done resisting all that temptation  in your house!!  And its great that even your kids are getting label consious!!

Quiet on the beach today!!!! Where has everyone gone??
In the ocean Gina!  Actually Im thinking Sarah is catching up with hubby, Rachaels on her 17 hour drive - we need to hear from the newer folks.  I feel like the mom telling her kids to call LOL.

Hoping its cuz things are going well!  Glad you checked in Beene and good going!  Usually I dont even think about the temptations in the house but once in a while one catches my eye - one Ive often seen but guess it hits me at the wrong moment and I just have to mentally block it out.   The offers to have this or that though - ugh!

Hang in there Gina on your new healthy eating start - good things to come of it.  Every Monday the same thing - made it thru the weekend and want weigh in Thursday to get here!
Yay!!  I'm not on my own!!!

Thanks for that Jayne.  Feeling a little chocolate / sugar deprived, but I am determined to try kick the sugar cravings!!!  Have nectarines beside my desk, so that I dont feel tempted by the biscuits in the canteen!!

Forgot about Rachel's journey - hope its a safe one!!!!

So I take it you traveled a bit Gina, I know you're no where near any beach, unless they are hiding it up there? LOL

In my opinion this is one of the best times to go to the beach down here, have everything to yourself!

Did really well today on the food, had to force myself to eat really...I love it when its like that, went overboard on the grapes (yes I know a forbidden fruit in phase 1), but I think I am going to do a modified thing and let in a little bit of fruit to counter act all the exercise...anyhoo the scale is coming down so it can't be all that bad.

Hope everyone else's day is going well!

Crap!!  Anyone else been eating carrots??!  I totally missed them on the Food Phase 1 List.  Lunch will definitely not be as fun now.

I'm also SERIOUSLY craving chocolate.  Anyone have any chocolate ideas/recipes that are OK for Phase 1?

How many of us are in Phase 1 versus the other phases?

Hi everyone, My weekend was good and today's going well- looking forward to my first weigh in on Wednesday. I have a question about exercise:

I've laid off the gym during my first week of phase 1, but I miss it. I'd like to do about 20-30 min of intervals on the elliptical and about 15 min of light sculpting. I've been consuming about 1170-1200 cals on the south beach diet. I'm not even hungry enough anymore to eat more than what I've been eating, but do I have to try and eat more anyway just to offset the amount of calories I'm going to burn at the gym?

Welcome skyblue!  Thats a good question about phases - Ive been phase 2 since July.  The SB cookbook has a recipe for phase1 Ive listed below.  You can also check post #56 LINK  for other sites with recipes.

I would definitely recommend it tiffany - the only problem I had with SB was the two times I dipped to low in calories and my weight loss stalled.  If you arent already, nuts, dairy and beans are a good way to keep calories up.  You want your metabolism maintained which is why the snacks are mandatory so would try your best to keep your calorie in a good range even with exercise.

EXPRESSO CUSTARD
1-1/2 c   1% milk
2       &n bsp;    eggs beaten
3       Tb sugar sub
2       ts  expresso powder or instant decaf coffee
1       ts vanilla extract
&nb sp;     cinnamon and lemon twists (garnish)

Whisk milk, eggs, sugar sub, coffee and vanilla well blended.  Pour into 4 6oz custard cps and place in 10' skillet.  Fill skillet with water to 1/2" from tops of cups.  Bring water to boil, reduce heat and simmer 10 min.  Remove cups, cover w/ plastic wrap touching surface of pudding and refridgerate min 3 hours.  Garnish.
MY BAD skyblue!

The picture looked like chocolate pudding but DUH there is no chocolate in it.  Perhaps cocoa powder could be subbed but Im horrible at playing with recipes.

How did everyone's weekend go? I actually went out on Friday night and did NOT drink! Woooooooooooo!!! I weighed in on Sunday and have lost 5 lbs in my first week:

New stats!

Height - 5'3

New weight: 133 lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is so exciting.

I know that it's easy come easy go though, so I will be concious not to overindulge once I hit stage 2 next week. Congrats to everyone. One question for sun...that custard recipe sounds amazing. Can I make it on Phase 1? Thanks for the help and support, this has really helped!

Five pounds - awesome!!  Been wondering how it was going.  Yes Kelsey, that is a phase1 custard. You can pace yourself phase2 but if your concerned theres always the plans one fruit/ one starch for 2 weeks - depends on your craving / weight loss reaction.

I would like everyone to please take a moment of silence - Walmarts in my area have stopped carrying  SB .............................
Dont know if thats just frozen though, but thats all the SB I buy.  SB couldnt keep the freezer shelves stocked steadily.  .  Im so crazy persistant - will call walmart headquarters and Kraft.  Im so crazy cheap too so will wait for sales at grocery chains to stock up.  Spoiled getting that pricing daily at Walmart. Going down fighting :P

Got a spreadsheet for my walking with each day listed and landmarks I reach.  Trying to obligate myself daily but friend showing up is a big part of that too.  The day she cant though still have my chart to fill out.  Good eating everybody -
Your right about the catch up with hubby  Morning all.  Okay my scale says 165 this morning.  I had a lot of bad things yesterday  I seem to get off track more when the hubbys around.  I also added up how many cals were in those nuts I ate and you dont want to know LOL.  Hes leaving today so I should be good for a while.  To all of you craving chocolate.  Dont forget about no sugar added fudge pops there allowed in every phase and so good!!!   Got to get the kids ready and then work out..... think Im doing a hour today just cause the scale scared me.
Good morny! Those SF fudgesicles dont require a diet and totally forgot them.  Need to buy some too - been a while!  I agree mulitplying calories of mulitple serving with nuts gets scary, I know!

Lots of phone calls today to clean up different things.  Will be checking in though and anticipating the grocerie ads tomorrow - my freezer's hungry.
Ohio - so glad you got home safe.  And the audio books is a great idea!!!!  Hope your tummy feels better soon!!

Sarah - hope you'd a good time with the hubby & you may as well treat yourself when he is around.  As for the nuts; I agree scary!

Jayne - sorry to hear about Walmart & SB.

For those of you craving chocolate there is a recipe for Chocolate popsicles:

  1. Mix ingredients until smooth.
  2. Pour into popsicle moulds.
  3. Freeze.
Try www.fatsecret.com for some great SB recipies.  Its similar to CC (but obviously not as good!).

I just wanted to say how excited I am that I found this website and this thread!

I'm a big fan of south beach diet (my whole family did it together and lost ~20 pounds each over the course of a summer---then of course, went back to eating out at restaurants and gained it back---boo), and I know it works.

My bf and I started south beach together on January 1st (this year's the year, I feel it!) and at then end of week 1 I'm down 6 pounds! He's down 4.5, and we're both so happy about it.

At the beginning of each week we sit down with my sb cookbooks and pick out 6 dinners to cook (and make enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day), then hit the grocery store. The 7th dinner is out at a restaurant (mostly so I won't freak out by being stuck in the house all the time).

And, because we're (or I'm, rather) pretty competitive, we made a chart to put on the fridge to watch our progress. We each have a small magnet, and we get to move it every morning as the weight comes off--it's a great feeling!

anyway, good luck to everyone and keep up the hard work!

Here's what I wound up doing to stave off my chocolate craving - WAY more Atkins than SB:

 1 square baking chocolate

1TB butter

3 packets of equal

(microwave to melt and eat out of bowl)

High fat and high calorie, but satisfying!

Sun 123 - I noticed that Sam's is carrying some SB wraps in the freezer section (by the yogurt in mine.)

Glad to have all of you here.  Ive been so good today its great I worked out and have been eating right.  Now that hubbys gone its back to normal heehee.  I did figure out the reason that I eat so bad when hes around.  He knocks on how I dont eat enough.... I eat between 1300 and 1500 cals normally and little bit more when I excercise.  I think he uses what hes supposed to eat and compares it to mine.  HELLO your a guy I tell him you get to eat more( which by the way is so not fair).

Did I mention Jayne that i was in Dallas area over christmas and was wondering if I would recognize you if i saw you in the store.  Its a big place but you never know right.

Jmurphy this is my second time around hopefully this time its for good.  I dont have to worry about pregnancy messing up my eating habits LOL

Congrats on all the current losses!!!!
hey everyone, hope you are all doing well today. making my food in advanced has really helped me stay on track. My weird chocolate mousse stuff has really helped my control my sweet tooth and pms chocolate cravings. Life has been a bit stressful this week. My younger brother has failed out of college on account of being lazy. He is absolutely brilliant but has zero self confidence and just has given up on himself. Its really heartbreaking because he has so much potential. Somehow i have been left to pick up the pieces and really handle the situation. I have been too upset and have wound up throwing away most of my food. wondering if this will hurt my weight-loss. When do we weigh in, thursdays?
Anyone have advice for getting back on track?  I got through 3-3/4 days on South Beach.  I loved how I wasn't hungry or craving things, but when I got to the end of day 4 I realized that I was really sore and low energy and wouldn't be able to run the next day if I didn't eat some carbs.  I did, and felt a lot better the next day.  I told myself that I'd modify phase 1 a little and go back to it, but ever since then my eating has been horrible and I've been bingeing all the time.

Should I try phase 1 again and just exercise very little rather than the 45-90 minutes that I aim for most days?  Or is that counter productive because I'll lose muscle?  If anyone has some good advice for getting back on track I'd love to hear it.  This is getting ridiculous.  Thanks!
Ingrid  I personally hate phase 1 and  when my two weeks were up I was glad to get some whole grains back.. I'm still having a hard time going back to phase one after my holiday binge.  If you feel better doing phase two do it.  Nobody here wants to see you down.... we all want you to succeed and if deviating from the plan works for you then that is wonderful.  We will support you to the end and hopefully through maintenance as well.  I'm speaking from the last couple of months with some of these ladies and they are all very GIVING and WONDERFUL with their support.  Hope this helped a little!!!!
