Welcome to the new over 100 to lose club! obsidyan
  Jul 27 2006 18:12
Howdy guys and gals!  I'm taking over this club, not because i think i have all the answers (i so know i don't) but because i'm super pumped up right now and motivated to help those people out there who have a lot of weight to lose.  we need a place that's more than a "can i join" place.. we need a place to talk about issues related to being this overweight..

Who here needs to lose over 100 pounds? Who needs to lose over 150 pounds? Or more?

I did! I did! And yes.. i did!

A small amount of background on me for those of you who don't know: i am a binge eater. I have had a problem with emotional eating, hidden eating, over eating, eating with a hang nail, eating because i have split ends.. you name it i stuffed my emotions down with the greasiest, nastiest food i could find!

Why did i do that (you might ask)? Because of many many different reasons.. frankly i think it was because this is how i was taught from a young age, this is how we handle stress and emotions. I learned that it's not proper to talk about your feelings.. or god forbid, express your emotions! You have to shove them down with a piece of cake and a smile!

Anyway.. onto the reason for this post.

If you are out there and need to lose a lot of weight.. just like i've got to.. i think we need to have a place where we can discuss these issues with each other and try and work through them together. Because, let's face it, people who are morbidly obese (yes.. i hate that word too) have uniquely different issues to work through and deal with than the average person.

Losing weight, for people who have this much to lose, have to deal with so much more than the formulas to figure out how much to eat.. and exercising. It's more complex than that. We have to deal with years and years of poor eating habits that have to be unlearned, we have to deal with the emotional torment of just being this size, we have to deal with the harsh looks and comments from strangers or from loved ones, we have to deal with our emotions for the first time in our life because we aren't shoving them down our throats anymore..

this is the hardest thing ANYONE has to deal with.. but, from my experience, things are different for us bigguns. :)

also, for those of you who don't know me very well.. (because i've kinda been in hiding and not posting much and there are so many new people out there) i started out in january weighing 324 pounds. I now weigh 232.5.. i have lost 91.5 pounds so far. I am not telling you guys this to get kudos.. i got those yesterday. I'm telling you guys this because i want anyone out there who is struggling with knowing they have, what seems to be, an insurmountable amount of weight to lose, that there is hope.. it IS possible.. you CAN do it.. but it's hard.. and you will hurt.. i know this because i've been there.. i've done it.. and i'm still dealing with it.

so.. come on in and share your stories.. i want to hear them and i want us to support each other until we are all at our goal weight!

#125 writestuff Jul 30 2006 19:37
Yep.  It's 115 with the heat index . . . sounds like a good excuse to avoid walking outside today, huh?  I think I'll opt for some aerobics in the air conditioning.  :D

Hi!  I would love to join the 100 club.  I have lost about 70 lbs over the past 11 months but I still have 60 to go.

When I read the first post I was surprised to see "hidden eating" - that's what I did - and still - I didn't realize it was recognized!  I still have a hard time when my husband is on nights.  That is my next bad habit I need to focus on.  I'm  not doing too bad with it but it is definitly a weak spot for me.

pmedic- hey there.. and welcome!  :)  yes.. hidden eating was my favorite thing.. how much can i eat before the hubby gets home?  or ohh he went to the store.. i wonder what i can eat while he's gone.. oy.. those days are over and i'm over 6 months "clean"

anyone else notice how much eating addiciton and binge eating is like alcoholism?  i swear i feel like i'm a recovering addict.. i don't feel like i'm cured.. but i feel like i'm recovering.. maybe some day i can be cured?  i don't know.. but we'll see.. :)

anyway.. enough rambling.. it's sunday and i'm watchin movies.. yup.. sunday=lazy day around here.. :)

My gosh - go away for a day and a half & look at all the new people!  I'm so excited!!

I'm going to be adding everyone to my friends list.... :)

So.... my weekend. :( Didn't exercise Saturday or Sunday.  Ate my *fat* heart out!!  Went shopping with my husband yesterday, and deicded that I'm getting my first pair of shorts to wear in public in two years.  Couldn't find ANY!  So I settled for two pair of capris. One is a size 18, the other is a 20. The 20s fit beautifully - a little loose, so I feel a touch smaller.

So then I try on the 18s, thinking the 20s are loose so the 18s should be just right.  They weren't, and I cried and cried.  Hubby didn't know what to do with me (poor thing). They were snug around the hips (saddle bags) and they GAPED at the back of the waist (so if I sit you see more than 1/2 my underwear!).  I was soooo upset.

Does anyone else have a really really far out-of-proportion hip to waist ratio?? My waist is so much smaller than my hips that almost no pants fit decently. It's horrible to get new clothes to find they don't fit, and that's probably why I haven't bought new clothes in years. I thought I read about a company online that makes custom jeans.  You can send them your measurements and they'll *make* jeans for you.  Thinking about that if I can find them, even though they probably cost a fortune. :(

So I woke up this morning feeling too tired to exercise, but remembered how I felt yesterday and did my morning 20 mintues! Started the day out great!

I need to learn how to break this cycle: work out & eat right for a week or two, fall back into the old habits, cry cause something upsets me (existing clothes not fitting, new clothes not fitting, looking at myself in the mirror), then getting this renewed commitment to myself.  How do you guys deal with the ups & downs? How can I/we renew the commitment every morning without the cryng & being upset?

I am SOOOO glad to have all of you!!!!

a new week!  a new challenge

come join in!
#132 skinnywillbe Jul 31 2006 14:35
Well I signed up for the challenge and now I will go catch up on my reading in this thread :)

Brief intro, I had 199 to loose as of March 23, 2006.  I now have 181 to loose.  It is has been slow, but at least it is heading in the RIGHT direction. :)  Of course if I exercised more, it would go alot faster.  So I am happy for the challenge.  :)

Thanks Oby for starting a new thread.  Our little communitty is getting really big now and it can sometimes feel hard to fit in.  :)  Don't get me wrong, I will cheer someone on if they only have 5 lbs to loose or 305 lbs to loose.  Both can be quite frustrating and definitly in need of support.  But I like the idea of having a little "hood" of my own peeps :)

((((HUGS)))))

Add me!

While I've binged and hidden food, my biggest problem is portion control of the foods I like - esp. bread & cheese - and regular exercise.

I stumbled onto this site last week when looking for a food calorie list. Boy, did I hit a pay day! I love this site!

I started my new way of eating (not a DIET this time, but a real change) 10 days ago, and so far I've lost 6 lb of the 118 I need to lose! I know there's water weight in there, but I'm ok with that.  What's best is my hubby and kids are joining me in changing our eating habits (though my one daughter actually started changing her habits with great success months ago)!

Hi everyone.  Can I join your club?  I am 5 pounds down (after one week on this go-round) and 133 to go!

So far Week 2 is going really well... but I could use all the motivation I could get.  I want this go-round to be the one that really works.

Thank you!

Caryl
