HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

Welcome mistyb and mizbitz!  Glad to have you, and as KT mentioned, jump right in the conversation!

That really is cool Ginny!  A farm, a working farm.  So cool!  I hope your puppy is ok.

Woohoo to all the losers the last couple of days...ESPECIALLY CAROLJOY!  WOW, 50 pound mark that close in sight...go pee and then relish the accomplishment. ;)  Now that's what ya call a great example of baby steps at work!

Hye-cool beans dudette on your healthy snack...it's nice when that happens.  I forget about those things too.

Dreamcruz-tequila days....omg...enough said!  Lol

Ginny -- I love the farm.  I was surprised at peacocks and even more surprised when you said you found them in a local newspaper.  WOW!  i would love to live on a farm, just don't think I could live and work on a working farm.  I did that as a kid and I didn't care for it then.  I love the garden, just not the gardening.  We used to raise tobacco for a crop but my mom had HUGE gardens and canned all the time.  Stored potatoes and carrots, canned green beans and tomatoes and tomato juice, and sour kraut, and peas, and corn, and blackberries, blackberry jelly (still my favorite), peaches, pears, apples, and anything else she could put in a jar.  We had a pig or two sometimes, but mostly we took the runts from my grandfather when the sow wouldn't nurse them.  Can you imagine 5 piglets behind a coal burning stove squealing every hour or so for their food...  i didn't like losing sleep but I still love pigs, especially the babies.

Good for you and your farm, I KNOW IT'S HARD WORK, but extremely rewarding also.  Glad the puppy will be ok, the poor thing.

hye -- keep up the good work.  You give me inspiration.

Caroljoy -- you prove to me that there is hope for weight loss AND Diabetes control.

Today will be a hard day for me.  I'm attending a conference today and tomorrow and they have donuts, pastries, and muffins, and croissants, yum.  I tried to be good with a Kashi granola bar and grapes, but then I ate Chinese for lunch, still not too bad, I did try to choose the healthiest things, then in the afternoon, I blew it with a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie.  Oh well.  At the moment I have 1500 calories already and I haven't had dinner, and unfortunately I'm hungry.....  I'll have to exercise more tonight to make up for it............

ALL RIGHT CAROL ... YOU GO GIRL!!!

LOVED hearing about your farm ginny! That must keep you pretty busy. I wouldn't have the stength for all that. I have a hard enough time taking care of our ONE acre. But it sure beats the apartments I lived in for most of my life. We moved here 2 years ago (this coming July). It's a rural farm area but sadly a lot of the farms have disappeared and the land divided and sold off. It's still beautiful though.

Hye, why don't you bring your snacks with you when you go somewhere. I usually have a "100 calorie pack", or 2 :)  with me wherever I go.

Thanks for all the responses...we have 38 acres.  We have not used all of it yet but have only been here 18 months.  It will get used as we have more time.  Yes, it is busy around here but fabulous.  I actually like the work, as long as I can take breaks when I need to.  Jodi responded well to the benadryl and is currently outside chasing my husband around on the john deere.  We had horrible rain and then mud this week so he is scraping the ruts out of the road (dirt).  One day, with money, we want to put in gravel so the mud won't be so bad.  Thanks for letting me ramble on here about something positive...I hope you all have a great evening...

ell-bell - Thanks for idea!  I thought of those but, are they really any good.  They just don't look that appealing to me.

What do you guys think??  Which of those 100 calorie snacks are the best??

ginny - 38 acres!!  Wow!  A friend of mine just bought 80 - something acres.  She said she still hasn't seen all of it yet.  That is sooo much land.  I know she keeps busy either working on her house or on the property.

Had a good night!  Re-discovered frozen yogurt.  I have a 2 tbsp cookie scoop so, I had two scoops today!  Yeah!!  Only 50 calories.  It was nice to have something ice cream like.  I have a feeling this little scoop is going to become my new best friend!
#1167 ktcort13 May 09 2007 05:06
ooo hye i got frozen yogurt on campus todya! it was sooooo good. so nice since it was like 90 degrees outside and my butt was killin me. i got some vicodin for it though so that was super nice! and the extra pounds that showed up on my scale disappeared today like i thought! so i have lost about 17 pounds this year so far! I'm gonna be really close to my goal of 30 pounds by the time i graduate.
#1168 ginnyannb May 09 2007 14:12

Ok...I know you guys said I should just post whether it a positive post or a negative one.  But I feel really bad cause lately my post have been either negative or I don't talk about me....I try to encourage others.  But I'm at the point where I don'[t know what to do.  Here goes....I did the "no, no" thing....I weighed myself before Friday.  Last two weeks I had upped my protien a bit and upped my calories to 1800 because of my activity.  Well, stepped on the scale this morning....I gained 4 lbs.  This really sucks.  I'm about ready to just sya forget this and just not care anymore...I was made to be fat I guess.  But I know that would just make me more miserable.  I had lost only 23lbs and now I gained 4 lbs back. :(  Can't believe this...soooo discouraged. :(
#1170 valsgoal May 09 2007 15:26
Aw Rockin, I'm so sad for you to see the number go up.  It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong either.  Let me ask you, have you gone to the doctor lately?  Maybe you need a little help figuring out why your body isn't letting go.  It could be something to do with your metabolism or thyroid.  If you know you're staying on track and it is more than obvious that you are getting in some good exercise (cleaning) then maybe a visit to the doctor can shed some light.  Take printouts of your calorie logs and stuff and see what they say.  It can't hurt.  Please try that route before giving up on yourself.
#1171 rockinmama May 09 2007 15:30
Well, I don't have a family doctor.  Mine went and moved to quebec without even telling me so now I have no doctor and it's very difficult to get one here.  Upping my calories definately did nothing for me so now I'm gonna try lowering to 1400 and if that doesn't work 1300.  Don't know what else to do.
#1172 ktcort13 May 09 2007 16:12
aww sorry to hear that mama. I dropped my cals from 1600 to 1300 and it seemed to do the trick for me. I dropped 2 pounds last week when I had only been losing like .5 pounds a week. So maybe goin lower would help and I'm sure those 4 pounds will disappear quickly!

we always want to hear what's goin on even if it's not happy!
#1173 rockinmama May 09 2007 16:22
Thanks Katie.  I  feel like I'm bringing everybody down with me though.  Everyone on here is doing so well. They need positive not negative and lately that's all I'm able to give and it makes me feel like *cr..p*.   I heard strength exercises boost up your metabolism. What do I do for strength exercises if I don't have a gym nearby.  I have a weight machine of some sort in the basement but not sure how to use it...lol.  It was left in the house when we bought it.  Not sure how much to do...how long ect...  Man I need a trainer...to kick my fat butt in gear...lol
#1174 squeakygurl May 09 2007 16:24
Good Job Everyone!! Every little thing helps.  Don't forget, some convenient stores carry yogurt.  I knew dairy products helped your digestion to aid in weight loss, but just learned that it helps reduce PMS..Oh please say that's true!!

Oh btw, if you all have cable I've discovered "my workout" on lifetime.  It has 3 trainers for the week and vary workouts w/ yoga cool down.    It's a lil much for me now, but they have modified ways of doing the exercises (I can't do those jumps).  I hope you can all record it and join me for a work out everyday (I hate them beanie weanie girls, but that's the body I eventually would like to have).
#1176 rockinmama May 09 2007 16:37
Man I don't have cable.  Wish I had either a trainer or a workout buddy who lived close by.  Can't go for walk here lately...the black flies are horrendous.  They try to carry me away there are so many.  And I swell up big time when they get me too.
#1177 hyechong May 09 2007 16:40
Good morning everyone!

Rockinmama - Oh, I'm so glad you're not holding it all to yourself.  I'm not a diet/nutrition expert but, based on everything I read, I think your body gained weight because your prior levels of calories vs. output were sooo big.  I think your body was in starvation mode.  So, everything you are now eating your body is holding onto in case of starvation again.  Your body is in survival mode.  To me you are an active person.  I on the other hand consider myself very sedentary.  I've been consuming 1500 - 1750 calories a day and still managing to lose weight.  So, I agree with V, try to get a doctor or a nutritionist to help you out.  Only they will have the real answers.  Don't give up!!  You've kept me going!

blj - Awww...you're such a sweetie.  All of you guys are my inspiration!

I'll check in later!

mama we all go through periods where it is too much for us to do alone and we have to share it with others or else we will just give up. I went through my little "i hate this i'm giving up" stage a few weeks ago and now i've finally gotten through it. we can't be happy and gung-ho all the time. that's why so many people give up on losing weight after a while. We are here to help you get through it so you don't give up and you can reachyour goals. WE want you to succeed!
#1180 chrisbaptiste May 09 2007 18:04
