burnyh- the power of tae bo. a friend of mine in h.s., a tiny size 2 or less, had a baby. she came back to school the exact same shape as pre-pregnancy! I though it was genes/age. then she heard a girl lamenting about not being able to lose weight and she said steelily- "you just have to do it. after my daughter was born i get up ev. morning and do my tae bo video." it worked wonders! wedding dress- that is awesome!! now you'll have to do a vow renewal in it ;) it is bittersweet to me that my wedding dress fits again and is loose, b/c i wanted to be skinnier in my wedding pics, but i still love them and was still happy. sauciedj- congratualtions on the running. it's so great to reclaim things you once were ok with doing. smiles- i've had that experience where i'll take a break and it results in a loss! the body is mysterious. maybe it's a sign you could stand to eat more when you do get back to working out. or maybe just take it as a well deserved break & reward. you earned it through all the 90% of the time you did work out and eat well. exciting and scary taking that next step with the boyfriend! i think it's a smart move to rent first. bri- good to see you again. you'll take it off in no time! in the mean time, i'm sure we're all selfishly glad to have you here ;) i also find it's such a constant battle "dealing with" (which sounds so negative for happy occasions) drinking and eating while socializing. so woo-hoo scale read 124.4 today. is it broken? who cares! yesterday i worked out after a 2 day hiatus (cold) and ate v. cleanly (for the most part). i think the bloat from period, salty take-out, and sugary treats cleared out. hopefully. drumroll- tomorrow i turn 26, and I have officially met my goal of 125 for my 25th year. |

UGH. girls, what do i do?! So this morning I get on my spring scale because it does weigh me a little less and I can know what to expect from my digital scale. I have had my spring scale for about 6 months and bought my digital like 2 months ago it weighs the same amount when i put two free 10 pounds on it but does not weigh me the same. If my spring scale says between 127/129 my digital scale says 130/131. Well yesterday my spring scale said 128 and my digital said 129.8. So this morning I got on my spring scale and it was like 125/126 and I stepped on my digital scale and it said 127.0 I WAS SO HAPPY! Then I stepped off and stepped on it again and it said 130.0! WTF? and my spring scale still says the same... I AM SO CONFUSED! What do I do! |

Hello! Names Melinda. I'm new in here in this group. I lost 171 pounds, and gained 2. Seems pretty lame that a 2 pound gain throws me into a head spin. I've come a long way with this dieting thing. Finding foods I can't have around, restricting food quantity, and learning what I like that is healthy for me. I'm working on getting off 5 pounds, toning my stomach muscles, and just feeling good overall. Health is both full body and mental. I want to be mentally healthy and be able to have normal eating habits! The binging has gotta stop. Current weight: 125 Goal: 120 Goal Accomplished: TBD |

Original Post by heatherx33: Here's what you do. 1. Pick a scale, and trash the other one. You are only going to make yourself crazy doing both. Personally I have a digital scale. 2. Weigh yourself on a hard surface, on the same spot. I picked a tile in my bathroom. 3. Attempt to stand the same way when you weight, and weight yourself naked. :) Who wants clothes weight? 4. Weigh in at the same time every day. Preferably in the morning. That should help. But scales will vary weights from 1 step to the next. It's just a matter of fact thing. We step on the thing differently each time. Weight in our toes more one time, weight in the heels of our feet another... It's not perfect. |

Heather - Definitely get rid of one of the scales. Then, you don't have to compare between the two. You need to have a standard baseline and using two scales just confuses things. I also totally agree with everything Melinda said. But I would add one thing; I always weigh myself twice and if the numbers don't agree, I weigh myself a third time. If the third time is the same as either the first or the second weighing I take that number as my weight. If not, I take the average of the three weights as my number. Kind of a pain, but it's the most accurate way I can come up with and luckily my scale usually comes out the same on the first two tries. If you do this though, I would definitely suggest that you use the digital scale since a spring scale keeps adjusting as you shift your weight forward and back. My digital scale gives me a final number that once set, doesn't change, which is a big help. |

Good afternoon everyone! I wanted to respond to Margo's last entry. I see that no one has responded and I wanted you to know that you are not alone with in your journey!! Life gets pretty damn crazy sometimes. It is important not to forget about your physical health (i.e C.C and the gym) but you also have to take care of your emotional health. SO...try not to stress too much about the gym when you already have so much else going on. Good luck with moving! I agree with you on renting. I moved out of my parents house last year and rented an apartment with my boyfriend. Luckily, we are still together, but if we had broken up at least we wouldn't have a mortgage to pay off. Good luck to everyone on your goals this week!! Danni |

Danni and hbroadbent - I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your comments about me feeilng stressed about the gym/eating/moving in w/ my boyfriend issue I've been having. (hugs!) Thanks for the support! :D Yes, I have not been as diligent w/ my workouts this past week/weekend w/ everything going on, but I plan on getting back on track this week. I went to one gym class last week (my last Pilates class of the month) and it really was a workout (esp. b/c the instructor has us work a lot of abs), but also b/c I hadn't worked out for really the previous whole week it was tough. Though last week was tough...it also is now seeming to turn around for me! Last Monday I was really stressed and by this Monday I am reallly excited! Since my boyfriend and I did go see that house apt. last Wed. evening, we've been offered the place and just yesterday put down the last month's rent deposit! :D I'm SO thrilled! Yes, it's not our own place b/c we're renting, but it's a place we can take care of as if it was our own (pretty much) b/c the landlord seems pretty cool. It is a very nice place, remodeled in the bathroom/kitchen in some places and I'm just impressed! Plus, we were going to need a w/d b/c the previous tenant was going to take it, but he happened to be at the apt. ystrday when my b/f and I went to meet up w/ the landlord at the same time and he asked if we wanted to buy the w/d from him....we took it! It was a steal for sure AND we don't have to worry about lugging in another w/d into the place since it's already there and we can take it w/ us when we move *whenenver that would be*! :D Anyway, things seem to be looking up and I'm looking forward to starting this new chapter in my life! Thanks again for all the support! :D I hope all continues to go well for you Danni with renting w/ your apt. too! :D As for the rest of the group, keep up your great work w/ working out, etc. Welcome to the new ladies too! :D P.S. well, though my t.o.t.m. is still hangin' around, I hope that Wed. weigh in won't be too discouraging....but no matter what it is, I'm just going to keep on moving forward! :D -Margo |

Margo - I'm excited about your good news in moving into a place of your own, well with your b/f. That is great news about your washer and dryer. We don't have them so we have to go to a laundry mat every time we do our clothes. Bummer! hbbroadbent - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Late I know but man I am so proud of you for reaching your goal. What awesome success! I haven't worked out at all this week due to being sick. I've totally lost my voice and today (one week later exactly) I'm getting it back a little bit. What a nasty cold! I am so anxious to working out again. My latest favorite: bringing frozen veggies to work in a tupperwear container and heating them in the mic for lunch. Talk about healthy! Today I have a whole cup of green beans with banana and yogurt, special K, and an apple... oh and a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread. Yay! Hope to hear from more of you guys this week, where was everyone last week? |

Wow, that's awesome, Margo! Especially that you won't have to trek to a laundrymat (they remind me of college lol). Good luck to you and your boyfriend, you guys must be so excited! I say, take the new place as if it's your own, even if you're renting. :D |

Hello everyone!!! Glad to see everyoen is well. Sorry I have been MIA for the past week and half or so, new term at school, out of town for a bit, yadda yadda. But I am back, now.
I have been eating maintence and lifting heavy the last two weeks. I really felt the need for a physical and mental break from dieting. And lifting has been great since I upped my cals. And now i am lost... I have not weighed for 2 weeks now because the scale was not being reflective of the positive changes I was seeing over the last month in the mirror anyways. It was only discouraging. Plus witht he progress I have made, I would not be totally ashamed to be caught in a bikini right now... So my motivation to really "cut" is diminishing rapidly... Now I am considering continuing eating maintance fro a few more weeks. I am still doing cardio 2X a day 5 days a week (I did 125 miles on my bike last week up a lot of hills). And I am lifting 4-5 days a week. And am wondering if my body's resistance to a change on the scale was a reflection of my over-restrition and I should should eat more. And let the chips fall where they may. I am at a crossroads... 1) atttempt to lose another 5# now by calorie restricting now? 2) Or mantain for a little while longer, maybe put on a little muscle, let my metabolism flare back up, then cut again in a month??? The saddest part of doing the later is then I can not check in with all you gals... But then again I have really enjoyed not watching the scale... |

Good to see you back Jen. In response to your dilemma my advice is to ask yourself what your true goal is. Do you want to be skinnier or more muscular? You know that if you are going to focus on calorie cutting you may very well lose some of the muscle you already have never mind building more. If you mantain and put on more muscle you will weigh more, but could end up looking more fit. Also, putting more muscle on may help you in to lose weight if you decide to cut again ina month. You can always keep up with the posts and not do the weigh in:) Maybe you could post measurements instead? |

Hi girls, I hope everyone had a great weekend. Here(Indiana) the weather was beautiful. I had a good/bad Saturday night. We went to the Melting Pot(Fondue Restaurant) it was delicious, however not very healthy. We don't go out very often so I just enjoyed it and I mean all of it!! The chocolate was the best. Then we met some friends out for a couple drinks. So it was a great night, just not for the weight loss progress. However, we did go to the gym before we went to dinner if that's a bonus. :) There’s a great trail right by my office so tonight I’m meeting a friend to walk. It’s so much easier to work out once the weather gets nice and I’m in a better mood. I hope to at least show a 1 lb. loss this week, we’ll see how my body wants to act Wednesday morning. Have a great week |

Well I want to do both. The problem is I am havign a hard time deciding priorities... I still want to lose another 5# of fat and would like to put on another 5-7# of muscle. And it is very hard to do both at the same time (can be done but neither progresses as quickly or as far). So i have been eating maintence/ small deficit as i decide...
Thanks for the respnse |

Jen I am so glad you are back! As for your delima I think that I would go for maintaining what you have and building some more muscle... but then again, if you are going to lose the weight you would lose some muscle mass in a month if you put it off.. are you following? So either way it's going to happen, it's just a matter of if you want to do it sooner or later? I'm going for as skinny as possible while still being healthy, I like it that my thighs don't touch right now and I don't think I would like it if they did, even if they were made of all muscle you know? Plus, would you look better in the end if you lost the weight and gradually gained the muscle? Or would it be better to gain the muscle and then shave off the pounds? You have always been the go to girl on this stuff so I don't know if my opionion helps or not. But I feel your struggle, sometmies in the gym I'm like.. man I could do some more reps on these groups and then I remind myself, I would rather up my cardio. That of course is just where I need it the most right now. Holy Cow I'm getting definition in my thighs though and man... this cotton skirt I got at old navy hangs just the right way if you know what I mean :) Enough of the rambling. glaserpu - I'm all for the good weather! |

Thanks,
part of it is I get jumphy thinking I am lossing muscle. But I creamed the weights this week (because I was eating more and therefore hadmore energy) so that was fun. And mentally I am just not ready to to go back to struggling to beat last weeks weight goals. (I finally deadlifted my body weight last week 2 sets of 8). So in summary, I think I will try to lose more fat (I still want more tone on my butt) before really focusing on muscle building. So I guess what I was trying to say before is that I do not want to use the scale for a while but instead I want to rely on my bf%. Thanks for lettign me think things out with you guys. |

Jen even if you aren't weighing yourself I know that I still appreciate all of your comments and opinions, I would miss you terribly if you stopped hanging out here. Besides I want to know how your toned butt is going! |
