Mission: Run Around the World--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

We're on a mission to Run Around the World!

Please visit the previous incarnation of our thread here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/484 66.html.

Our wonderful leader Zarelha started one of the greatest motivators ever here on C-C: a mission to run around the world, one run, one runner at a time! All running mileage is acceptable (no ellipticals or swimming) and anyone is welcome to join at any time!

Some info about us:

We started the run at the Southernmost tip of South America, in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. We will end the run in Capetown, South Africa, at the ocean. The total mileage needed to finish is 23,854 miles.

Start date of the run: August 1, 2007, 12:00 midnight.

Weeks start on Wednesday and end on Tuesday. Runners who have had no movement in a full month were put on Hiatus, however, we want you back! Post more mileage at any time!

Our Tally Team will each take one week to be responsible for tallying up that week's mileage. Post here or PM the RATW user profile if you have any questions or concerns.

For detailed mileage, please visit our spreadsheet: http://www.editgrid.com/user/new_cc_worldrunn er/Runners_Log

1.5 for me on sunday. :)

Please add 10.9 miles for me today.

Good to be back doing the distance again, now that my sprint-tri series is over.  Just 7 weeks now to the half IM (and on of those is vacation--eek!)

Where/when is your sprint skinny_kitty?  A sub-25:00 5K is a very nice pace, especially coming off the bike, IMHO...it always takes me half a mile for my legs to regain their sanity off a hard ride.

27 miles for the past week thanks!

Wow, people are really reporting some long distances from the weekend!  Excellent!

I should mention that the intervals for the interval run should be at speeds that are comfortable to each person.  For instance, when I do intervals I do 2 minutes at 6.1 and 2 minutes at 7 mph.  Those just happen to be my slow and fast threshholds.  For the tempo run, I tend to start at 5.8 or 5.9 and work my way up to 6.5 or 6.6 mph.  Everyone should listen to their own bodies when determining their speed for the various parts.

June Challenge update: I'm doing very well on my progress towards 100 miles for June.  I'm up to 76.60 miles so far, and I had planned to be at 75, so I'm a little ahead.  This is actually a good thing because I'm headed to LA on Friday night, so I'll probably end my challenge on Friday instead of Saturday.  Now all I have to do is run 23.40 miles by then!

Please add 2.5 miles for Friday (would have been more, but I got caught in a thunderstorm and had to re-plan my route) and 4 miles for yesterday.  Thanks!

AAARRGGGG -- I am way off pace for the June challenge.  Between thunderstorms and smoke billowing in from an ongoing forest fire killing the air quality, and the unexpected emergencies of life I have had no running for the last week.  The good news is that I will have fresh legs for this week.  Happy running!

Thanks to my not taking care of my weekly long run yesterday, I had no choice but to make it up today (on my scheduled day off for the week). So please put me down for another 17.6 miles.

BTW, so far I have 186 miles completed for the month of June. Not only does it look like I will crush my goal for the month (200), but I might even exceed my personal record for mileage in any month (235.9 miles, February 2008).
Please add 10 miles for me from Saturday and another 6.2 from Sunday.

Although my knee is still nagging a bit, it doesn't hurt when I run, and Advil seems to take the edge off for the time being.

Going to Belgium for my best friend's wedding at the end of the week - and I think I'll use that time to take a 100% break from running/elliptical trainer stuff and see if that helps at all.....

8 miles for me today

3.4 miles off the bike this afternoon.

jfk:  Funny you're glad to get into the volume; I'm actually really enjoying the short distances for a change (so easy!)  My sprint is in Peterborough, Ontario -- it's a medium sized race that doesn't qualify for anything, but it'll help me get my muscles back in shape for the Olympic I have planned at the end of July.  My big-to-do half IM is mid September.  So...I gather you're going to do the Colorado half?  Masochistic much?  *LOL* those hills...those hills!!!  Have fun with that...(BTW, is that a new Lab puppy as your avatar?)

5.25 miles for me for yesterday - plus two hour-long killer bootcamp classes.  Some days I'm just an glutton for punishment!!  Scale moved down though - can't beat that!
2.5 miles for yesterday.  Still wimpy, but slowly increasing overall.

Week Ending 6/24:  15 miles (New weekly high!)

Also ran 8 miles Sunday (Previous Long was 6.2).   10K coming up sunday so will back down miles during the week in preparation.  Also think early signs of "Runners Knee" due to increase milage and hill training for 10K ... Big steep hill midway through 10K and going up not that bad but running down a few times put a lot of stress on knee.  Researched and will follow a little rest; strengthen quads; stretch Hamstrings/calves.  Any other suggestions?

With increased milage and running for 6 months, came to realization that the starter pair of low end New Balance shoes were not cutting the mustard.  Got a Pair of Nike Pegeasus+ 2007, as went to running shop and of the pairs they suggested based on foot structure/wear pattern they felt the best.

Anyone have tried these before?

1.5 for Tuesday

I always find that my runner's knees ache more on my day off than on other days, which I find ironic.  I took Sunday off (my normal day off) and Sunday evening they ached more than usual.  Weird!

Wiliwigi, hey, life gets in the way sometimes, ya know?  As long as you get out there when you can (or, get to the gym, depending on air quality), that's what really matters!  Sounds like your fresh legs are ready for some mileage!

Wrm, as usual, you are blowing the rest of us out of the water!  The most mileage I've ever done in one month was 135!  I'm jealous, and yet, sane.  Heh.

Fitnessfreak, oh, now I'm REALLY jealous! Belgium will be FAB!  Have fun!  Remember to bring your running sneakers just to walk around in: my experience with European cities is that the cobblestones will do a number on your knees even if you are just walking around sightseeing.  So the cushioning will really help.

Kscout, I could never do a 2-hour long bootcamp class.  Heck, I don't think I could do a 1-hour long bootcamp!  Impressive!

So, it's Tuesday and for once I've gone to the gym early enough to post my mileage before the week officially ends!  We are in a Code Red smog alert, which means air quality down here is Way Unhealthy.  So I went to the gym at lunchtime to hit the treadmill.

Please add 30 miles for me from the week ending 24 June.  Thanks!

June Challenge Update!  Where are we, folks?

Current status is from whenever people last reported on the June Challenge.  Only a few days left in June!  C'mon, people!

June Challenge:  50.5

I thought we were just going off regular posts ... Sorry

Hi everyone--14.6 miles today. It's great to see many of us getting close to our June challenge goals.

jenka:  Right now I'm at 40.8 miles.  Got a 5K on Thurs, and one on Saturday, so I'll need to get just a few more in Friday or Monday.

skinny_kitty: Yeah--I was liking the shorter distances, but not the increased intensity.  A nice easy 2 hour run in the sunshine with 30 of your favorite songs on your iPod--such sweet serenity.  I'm never in sweat soaked agony like I am trying to PR a 5K.  Burns so many calories, too.

5.75 miles for me today
