I'll be 43 this June anyone around the same age want to join my weight loss quest?

Greetings!

I am hoping that this site I stumbled on will help me out. I have been on a diet or fighting with food my entire life. About 8 years ago I lost about 100 pounds, my lowest weight was 204 then I had my first child at 40. Now I am 220 and he'll be three this June. The only good news is that I do not weight 300 + pounds anymore having said that - No excuses, my food addiction problem has been out of control now since his birth. I try - and try - and try - and still nothing seems to be working. Maybe I can find a friend here who will help give me the strength I need to be healthy. I need to stay alive for my family.

Hi Cynthia~~ Welcome to our group!

We are always here for one another.....wait!  I should say, they are always here for me. lol  I say that because they've all been losing and I've not.  Therefore, they've been very encouraging & supportive....with lots of great suggestions as well.  One in which I've incorporated this week.....not eating after 7:00.  I've tried to take it a lil' step farther & not eat after 6:30.  It's not easy might I add.  I drink lots of water and cannot wait for bedtime ea. night! lol  But I do think it's working by the way I feel (I've not gotten on the scale).

We typically do our weigh-ins on Friday morning and then post our results....whether we've lost 1, 2 or like me 0 lbs!

Hey Welcome again and

Best of luck to you,

Denise : )

Have you guys seen this?

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

My BMR is 2321

That means at normal everyday activity, I burn 2785 calories (2321 X1.2). Adding in the walking/biking that I am doing and I am supposedly burning 3597 (2321 X 1.55) calories a day.

If I am eating say 1500-1600 a day, then that is almost a 2000 calorie deficit.

Supposedly a 500 calorie deficit a day is roughly a 1 pound loss a week, then I should be losing 4-5 pounds a week.

If I lose another pound or so by Monday, then I will have lost 14-15 pounds in 3 weeks which is almost spot on what the numbers say I should be losing.

Pretty interesting.....

Terry

Wow!!  Are you worried about losing muscle since you're dropping weight so fast?  That's quite a calore deficit there!?!

Well, I realize 1500 is a bit low, but as I mentioned before, I do not measure my foods, so I am sure I am "under-estimating" and am probably closer to 1700-1800. It's my way of leaving some cushion.

The website says to not go below 1000 of your maintenence level. My understanding is that your maintenence level is your sedentary level, so mine is 2785 which means my minimum should be 1785. Also the American College of Sports Medicine says around 1800 as a minimum while other folks have said 1500 for a guy.

Given that I probably underestimate my calories a bit, I also will have a "normal" day on the weekend where I eat a normal 2000, I take One-A-Day WeightSmart vitamins and I occasionally skip a work out, I am pretty sure I am okay, maybe pushing it a little. I'll be seeing my doc in a week, so I'll adjust if necessary. Can't be too careful I suppose.

Hi Terry, that's great. Your doctor will be amazed with your weight loss.  Keep it up!

Hi Cynthia, Welcome! We're here for each other!

I'm having an off week but I'm not really down about it. I accept it as life.

It's funny, when I'm tipping the scales, I always think everything would be better if I lost 50, 60, 80 amount of pounds. I think the weight loss will take away all the irritants life has to offer.......Then I lose some weight and you know, all those irritants are still there. And in some respects it's even WORSE than before because I don't have the food to use as a crutch.

So, if this journey of healthy eating, healtyh weight, and having a healthy relationship with food takes me awhile to achieve, then so be it. I'm in it for the long run.

It's just odd not using food as a comfort thing. I feel like I'm missing something.

BE HEALTHY!

Tomorrow is weight in day! Good luck everyone!

Marie

I am new to this site.I joined about 3 weeks ago,My starting weight was 280, I have lost 10 pounds  since i started. I am 42 married with 2 children. I am going to the outter banks in July and would love to be able to climb up some of the lighthouses in the area. Most of them have more then 650 stairs. So I have  like 5 months before we go. So I have alot of hard work to do.............

I love the Outer Banks. I always stay in Rodanthe which is between the Bodie Island lighthouse and the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. I am a photographer and love to go there and shoot. I probably won't make it this year as I am going to Zion, Bryce and the slot canyons in Page Arizona, but I typically go at least once a year to OBX. There are a BUNCH of stairs for sure in those lighthouses!

Thanks for the welcomes!  I should probably also mention that I'm 5'9", married, no kids but two hedgehogs.

That's a beautiful shot, Terry!  I dabble in photography but I've done nothing like that.  I can never get the light right.

Welcome, cbear, glad to have you along!

I am nervous about tomorrow since I am chaging my weigh in day.  It may be less than I have been seeing on the scales, but there is always next week.  As far as my plan, I have had no slip ups.

Here are a couple of unusual things I have done to jump start my weight loss.

1.  My 13 year old daughter and I gave up ALL soda for New Years.  If one of us breaks during the year they have to give the other one foot massages every night for a week.  I don't care about the foot massages, but I am not going to let her win.

2.  I gave up candy and cookies for Lent.  I am not Catholic, but thought I could tie my weight loss to my personal faith.  It is only 40 days.

I am very competitive and I like challenges, but they have to be reachable.  I don't know if you will find these useful, but it works for me.

I look forward to the logging my weigh tomorrow and seeing how everyone has done.

Tammie

Terry, that is a beautiful shot!!  We lived in NC for a few years and I never made it to the OBX.  We took it for granted and thought we'd be there awhile I guess? Now we regret not going.

Loved the photo Terry, thanks for sharing it. I guess that I will be the one to start the weight in today...as I feared no change. BUT I did not gain...so I am ok with this right now. As spring approaches I know that the asthma can really change my lifestyle. I hope everyone else has a better weigh in. Welcome to the newcomers and don't let the Friday weigh in mess with your normal routine, it is just how we decided to keep track of the group. If you have established a weigh in day for yourself go ahead and keep it, just start a new one to chart yourself with us. I have been taking it easy this week and working on my meds so I am looking forward to being more energized and back up to speed by next week (so look out at next Friday's weigh in)!!!HAH!! Well, you all know the routine...newbies we just copy & paste the data below and add our own info. Best of luck everyone.

Good morning all~~

I'm very nervous to give my weigh-in report this morning.  It's probably water weight and next week I'll be disappointed again but hopefully not.  Anyway, here goes

Good morning all...I hope everyone had great results last week. My week started slow, but I managed to salvage it. I even had a slice (I should say a sliver) of my youngest son's b-day cake last night. He turned 13. Saved calories all day for that cake and I don't even like cake all that much.....Smile

Good morning everyone!

Last night we went out for supper.  I did pretty well, ordering some low-fat buffalo (which is quite tasty!) and a salad, but then I allowed myself a piece of strawberry cheesecake.  I counted it all up, whipped cream and all, and it only put me 200 over my weight loss total or 300 below maintenance, so I feel pretty good about allowing myself that little treat.  The occasion was me finally coming off probation at my job, so I get benefits now, and they can't just let me go the way they can on probation.  I'm also down a pound from where I've been hovering for a long time (yay!) but I'll put this weight as my starting weight with you guys.

Good morning all.  Had a rough week.  Went to the doc for bad ear ache.  Got meds and a shot.  Feeling a little better now but had a couple of off days with regard to eating.

I forgot to add........

Great photo, Terry. I set to my desktop. My husband is into photography, as a hobby, not professsionally.

We're planning at trip to the southwest in September. We're flying into Vegas and visiting Bryce and Zion, then the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Tombstone. Flying out of Tucson after visiting some friends.

The past two years we've rented a house in Duck for a week during June. What a place! It's beautiful there. This year my brother and his family are taking the house.  Frown

Well, the weigh in turned out great even though I changed my weigh in date...it was a good week.  On plan all week and got to the gym 4 times.

Thanks for letting me join you guys.  It is good to see where everyone is succeeding and struggling.

Can I join? I'm 43, married with 2 kids (20 and 15). I started my weight loss in the middle of Oct (forget the exact date). Started out at 235 and currently weigh 200. I started measuring on Jan 3rd and I've lost 13 inches since then!! Says alot for me. I'm limited as to what I can do bc of back and leg pain. Going for surgery soon too!!!
