I'm a dieting veteran.... up and down the same 20lbs since highschool! I've always lost it on Weight Watchers...but I wanted to try something new. So, here I am. I'm looking to start a group of late 20- early 30 year olds who are interested in losing weight and getting healthy. I'm 5' 9" 160lbs. I'm looking for others that have about 20-30lbs to lose. Hopefully there's some people out there!!
Happy New Year!
It's raining a little today and I don't want to work out. I had a pretty good run yesterday (5K) and I think it's okay if I rest. Problem is, I've been eating chocolate like it's going out of style!
runner_girl, you know, I've had my best weight loss after weekends like yours. I think when we're naughty, out body automatically tries to compensate and our metabolism goes up. And all the stairs I'm sure you had to climb...
hi megain44, i also joined this site few days back. my goal is to loose 20 lbs in 3 months. im 5'3" and 130 lb. howevr, its been pretty difficult since im a complete foodie.n i hardly get time to go 2 a gym, though i workout regularly for an hour at home. anyone there who can tel me about some strength training exercises that i can do at home without using any equipment?
Hi All,
Man it's so great to come online and read your positive encouragement. Starting in Novemeber I was at 194 and yesterday went to my doctor and am now said to be at 202lbs. It was my 3 month check up for my thyroid so they drew blood and are doing an extensive test to make sure it's working properly and also a diabetes check. My doc said in sept08 there is a new medicine calle Byetta that he wants me to try but it's not approved as of yet.
I was so upset because my doc said basically for now I just need to work out twice what I am doing and eat better. I was like well damn what else can I do. I'm adding more water and more fruits and veggies. So thanks for your posts because they really have cheered me up in a bleak moment.
I'm still walking and am going to get a gym membership this week with my husband so we have something healthy to do together. I will kepp ya informed on my test results. As for anything else it's wacky wednesday and almost Friday. YAY!
hi everyone,
i just signed up a few minutes ago. i'd like to join this great group if it's not too late.
these are my stats. i'm 5'3", 30, weigh 156 lbs. no specific goal weight for the moment. i'm going to keep going till i'm satisfied. had a great breakfast. still feeling full on fiber..... but i still need the support. i'm going out with friends tonight, and we eat out ALL THE TIME. the only thing is that they are all in shape and i'm not. uphill battle, i'm going to win with you guys!
Samiaz,
It's tough also because we eat out a lot! But most places now have grilled options and much better choices than the friend fatty foods. Good luck to you and have a great day. There are some awesome people on here. Yea there comes to a point where ya just get fed up of not being what you want and that's where I got to. So now I'm doing something about it for me first of all then my family.
Who is feeling good about their efforts? You all should be! Remember that every 3500 calories you are not eating or are burning off by exercise should be a pound lost.
If you are really keeping track of both, it will help you to know where your mistakes are. Don't beat yourself up for a "cheat day" but get back on the wagon. We can all do this and be a new (slightly smaller) person by the end of January. I see a lot of us have already made the 5 lbs this month, so keep up the good work!![]()
Thanks foxylady--I know exactly what you mean. Often one over indulgent weekend can jump start my metabolism. It just takes a few days to see the benefits (hence my snubbing of my scale until Sunday...). What kind of chocolate have you been eating? If you can't tell, I'm trying to live vicariously through you :)
How's everyone else doing?
hi all!
still doing fairly well with my food choices, although my italian mama made some incredible chicken that i had to indulge in today...lite dinner for me! it's been two days since i've logged in my food and i HAVE to get back to it...it's so helpful to see what i'm actually eating. i've been subbing all week long in a kindergarten classroom and i'm counting that as my exercise...works for me! sorry to hear about your recent health issues, paige98...we're here for you! i go to the doc's in a few weeks and i'm dreading it!!
welcome to all new members..this group is great...keep up the good work everyone!
ps...runnergirl...i was right there with you eating all the bad gameday stuff, only wasn't lucky enough to have game tickets...what happens in the playoffs, stays in the playoffs...haha!!
Paige, that sucks about the thyroid - hope it turns out OK. Fruits and veggies and water are almost always good for you - even if something else is preventing you from losing weight all those nutrients are keeping your body stronger and healthier and more able to combat any other health problems, so keep eating right even if instant weight loss isn't the result. And have fun at the gym with your husband!
Samiaz - eating as socialising is always tough. A lot of the time I meet up with friends after dinner for coffee because I have such a hard time choosing salad over cheesey pasta.
Wow, Tracey, 8lbs already! Good for you!
I had a bad start to my week - comfort food after a bad mood on Saturday, hurt my elbow on Monday, and ate out last night, but today has been excellent and I have to dress up this weekend so I'm motivated to be good the next few days! Aah, superficiality ... works like a charm :)
Daily update: Ouch! Scale went up a lb. and I walked 6km yesterday and ran 5-6 the day before.
DAMN chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!! ![]()
Please learn from my mistakes and stay ON the wagon. And drink water.
(runner_girl: One of my girlfriends brings me chocolate from Germany all the time and they have really good chocolate. I have a chocolate/red wine trouffle, these delux, crunchy wafer chocolate things, dark chocolate, etc.)
megnificent1: I'm a lentil fanatic. Using lentils instead of rice adds tons and tons of fiber and protein.
I saute lots of onions and, if you like, garlic, add bouillon cube, add cup of green lentils, also optional is adding bulgur. Add water and boil.
You can use veggie stock instead of bouillon cube for strick vegetarian diet.
I'm going to add a rant for a moment...
Anyone else get so frustrated about weightloss during your period? In my case, I gain3 - 4 pounds in the week leading up to it and that sticks until I'm done. Once I'm done I may lose 5 -6 pounds (which is really the only time the weightloss is noticable to me), but if I just go back to where I started (or worse!) I get so discouraged.
In all fairness it looks like I've lost 5 pounds and I am down to 170, but man does it just make my heart drop to see the scale fluctuate so much.
Havey-I so know the same feeling you deal with having the weight gain before and during your period. Shoot my pants struggle to fit the week before and the week on then after it's gone I can miracuously fit into my jeans with no problems with room in them.
I'm adventuring out and trying new veggies. Honestly growing up my family never was the fruit and veggie eating family so I'm learning how to like asparagus, green beans, corn, broccoli, and cauliflower. I'm still working on acquiring a taste for squash and zucchini. I'm adding in bananas and more.
So pretty much this is a whole life change for me. My hubby is loving it and it helps him to eat better also.
TracyF80-We are pretty much at the same starting point so I'd like to stay in touch and find out how your success is going.
Well I better go eat breakfast. Have an awesome day!
hi everyone
i did it!! i resisted the temptation while i was out with my girlfriends. we went to a desert place last night where there were no healthy options. i was going to avoid it, but i have to change my mind set so that i don't feel i HAVE to eat desert just because it's right infront of me. it actually was quite easy to resist when i thought of you guys and how motivating you are
hey paige.... i actually love vegetables, but i'm also trying to bring myself to eating squash and asparagus. that's my newest goal for the month. what i'm doing is mixing a VERY SMALL amount in other foods and working my way up. if i'm eating something that i really don't like, i mask the taste with sauce, salt, even ketchup, or some other fashion, and eventually and slowly reveal its taste. eventually i aquire the taste. i did the same for zuccini recently, and now have it every week. but seafood.... never ever will i touch it.. you couldn't pay me.
Welcome Chrisssy![]()
Jen that is so great about your loss! Funny the way that sounded.lol 5 pounds is awesome! I can't wait to be there. Shoot a little bit at a time then it will be gone.
Samiaz-Way to go on passing the dessert. I've tried to look at things I eat as to how much more work I will have to do to get it off my ass.lol (I apologize for the bluntness) It definately detours me from many things. I will try your method of introducing veggies with a masked taste. Maybe that will work. My daughters love veggies so I'm glad they are getting a better start than I did.
At home we have deleted cokes from the household and are now just making tea, water milk and crystal light. I see that my change is affecting my family and hopefully all of us for the better.
I'm so happy it's almost Friday and we have a 3 day weekend. I did do something so not normal for me! I have switched to whole wheat bread where as before I wouldn't be caught dead eating that. I had to have white bread all the way but now I'm making this life change to be an adventure and I'm enjoying it every step even with all the frustrations from starting at a higher weight and not knowing about my thyroid or diabetes.
Pray for me something isn't up and I just will kick it in gear on the exercising! We have our tour tonight at 24Hour fitness. My work gets half price memberships for its employees and family so why not! Have an awesome day!
