| Clean Eating Challenge | ||

| Ok, there seems to be a mysterious condition going around that is causing sabotage to our eating. I know I'm not alone here when I admit that my eating this past little while leaves a lot to be desired, causing slight weight gain after such hard work to lose it. I also know, that I am the same person who was practically flawless in my eating for like almost 90 days straight, so I know I can get ahold of this - who's with me?? There is no deadline for sign-ups, anyone can join at any time!! All you have to do is check in once a week (at least) & let us know how you're doing. If/when you "cheat", simply let us know & I will restart your start date. A cheat is defined as whatever a cheat would mean to you personally, whether it be going over your calories, bingeing, not eating enough, too many treats, etc. We all know when we've cheated, so just be honest with yourself Let's be honest with each other & keep each other eating clean k? The PRIZE to the winner? Well that's easy - weight loss!!!!!!!!! (or maintenance for those at that stage!) Let's do this! Dee ************************************************ Here's the list of all signed up & the new rules: (let me know if I missed you) If you lose your mind & cheat, just let me know. Then you can re-start from the next day. I'll simply unbold your name, along with updating your new start date. After being clean for a week after a re-start, I'll re-bold your name. So you always have a chance to feel like you are succeeding. Also, if you just don't feel like you want to partake in the challenge anymore, can you let me know so I can remove your name from the list? Thanks!! Anyone not checking in for one week (December 25 - December 31) will be removed from the challenge. Good luck all! People's names in bold have been going the longest or have not restarted for at least a week - way to go!!!!!!!!

I admire your determination and applaud your overall goal, but as a health writer of 20 years (and an oft-frustrated dieter) I've interviewed numerous dietitians and other diet experts and they all say the same thing. Goals like "clean eating" are doomed to fail.
Why? Because none of us lives a life of clean eating--and we shouldn't have to. The way a good dietary program works is it includes food that are considered "bad"--a brownie, a pretzel, a slice of pizza, whatever. As soon as you try to stay totally "clean" in your eating, you're only go to fall off the ladder, cheat...whatever you call it. And in fact all the messages here indicate exactly that. People who were really careful for days or weeks and then "lost" their self control. I've been building four things into my diet program--getting off my rump, drinking more water, cutting my portions, and including a treat into my daily routine. I've found that as I do the first four more, my craving for my usual treats--like desperate need for chocolate, carbs, or ice cream--has been diminishing. Instead, maybe I have popcorn, or a little peanut butter. Hope that helps and doesn't sound too discouraging. Good luck. |

| Medwriter, I appreciate your comments. I personally am taking a very liberal approach to "clean" eating based on my nutritional goals ... basically, the idea for me is to stay within my calorie limits, keep my fats at or below 20%, and get at least 40g of fiber a day. It's pretty flexible, so I allow myself to budget little treats like chocolate - gotta have it pretty much every day! - cookies, cake ... those little treats that occasionally come up. I'm also allowing myself to make up for "oopsies" through exercise. I agree completely that being too restrictive in one's eating habits is a recipe for frustration, unhappiness, and probable failure. I hope that others are similarly taking flexible approaches in defining what is "clean" eating for them. Good luck! | ||

medwriter- ya, we all know that we're allowed to budget in "treats" everyday if we want them. & I think a lot of us here are already doing that. I've been doing that since day one (jan 25) & it's worked really well so far :) I've had a few minor slip ups but non amounted to anything serious. Pretty much, my slip ups caused me to be more at maintenance calories instead of losing calolries.
Also, a few people on here are on Body for Life, which allows one cheat DAY a week, and that's permitted. Thanks for the warning, but have no fear, we're not going to deprive ourselves so much so we go crazy nutso & binge till we explode! lol!!! |

wow!! welcome to all the new comers!!!! I hope we all do well & succeed. It's never too late to join this thread!!
So no one gave any thoughts as to what to do for a "list". Here's what I think I'll do. I'll make a list of the people involved and post it at the top. If you lose your mind & cheat, just let me know, I'll remove your name. BUT you CAN still stay here & keep on going. Don't leave & don't keep cheating. Come right back & start over. When June comes around, I will add you back to the list. That being said, I need for those who cheat to let me know. Don't just disappear, k??? Deal? We want you to still succeed but we also want to recognize those of us who are still at 100%. Good luck all! It may take a while to get the whole list up, so bear with me! ================================= delinah- good water tip, thanks! annah - I'm so glad your bday went well!!! Good job. Hope you enjoyed the cake!! piecesofme_09- I actually read somewhere how much water weighs, but can't remember what it said. Maybe do a search here for it, or just on the net in general. It's lots! food_freak- Ha! that's funny, I think we've all thought that too!!! Go to bed, won't think of food!! lol! You can do this! calley22- clean eating is different for eveyrone. BAsically it's either going over your calories (by a bunch!) or just "cheating". Whatever cheating is for you. You'll know when you've done a wrong thing. Good luck!!! & take care in Iraq!! heroncreek- thanks for the tips!! k8ly - way to not snack at home! & also the no weekday booze is super!!!! It's loaded with empty cals!!! Keep it up! xpnsive- I"m glad you joined, we've all been there (weight gain getting ridiculous). Good luck!!! mabear32059- Yes, it will last more than a day or so. Afterall, if you fail you have to come & tell all of us!! !loll!! lindadoty- you can join anytime. & each new month we'll re-set the list & add in those who did not succed this month. pharmspice - you got it!!! lysistrata- your hubby is so mean! lol! Making you bake cake. Budget for a wee piece and then make your hubby eat the rest! rezaiasl- you should be proud! You had a choice to have it or not & you chose sooo well!!! Just keep doing that!!! gimppy_stubby - congrats! Glad to see it's possible! carie87 - congrats on day 4!!! You ought to be very very proud! Keep it up all! Dee |

2 days down, 29 to go!!
This honestly helped me to avoid over eating today! I had a term paper due and wanted to do some serious stress eating, which I'll admit I did do a little of, but I still managed to maintain a 600 cal defecit!! yay!! |

| 3 clean days so far...and ready for #4. Today I'm going to try a new granola bar - and yes, this is something I'd normally eat :) I do factor in a treat once in a while, within my calories limits - not to deprive myself, and all!! | ||

woo whoo! I pulled of an A- for yesterday - which just proves you can still eat out, order something other than a salad, and still stay on-track (hubby and I went out for lunch) - just need to pay attention a bit more on those days to what else you eat. And the best part!? I stepped on the scale today - and it was at 128.4!!!! I'm soooo excited!! My graph for weight has gone flat at 130 until I started this challenge. I feel great, and think I can make it through the dreaded Thursday when I usually fall off the booze wagon and have a glass of wine! Here's looking forward to day 4!! We can DOO it! (Dunno if it'd be too much work for you, Dee, but it would be nice to put "join dates" next to people's names. some people are on day 3, others day 4...would be nice to track when we all reach 30 days or something like that so we're comparing apples to apples when we name winners. Not that we aren't all winners just for giving it a go! ^_~) |

| I'd like to join in on your challenge. It's always easier when you're accountable to someone other than yourself! | ||
| #118 | May 03 2007 15:49 | |
| I'd like to join as well! I always cheat myself by binging on food that's on my "ok food list". Hopefully this will help me by knowing I'll have to 'fess up if I eat like that. Thanks everybody! | ||
