RANTING BURNS CALORIES!
This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...
* * *
I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.
I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....
I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!
Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?
Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:
1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.
AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

Hey, Molly! You're not just getting skinnier, you're getting YOUNGER!
I hope that's happending to me, too (though I am losing much more slowly than you)!
I was relieved thsia a.m. when I got on the scale & hadn't gained - I had three small slices of pizza for dinner. I will say that I got thin crust veggie pizza and ordered "light" cheese, so it was as healthy as possible
You're not ranting very much on this forum. What's the matter, don't have anything to complain about? Happier?
lol I bet Ron likes this about the diet as much as anything else. Yes, I would say you couldn't be happier with your results. They are textbook perfect.
Molly, I agree with Pattikins - YOU appear younger:):)
AND CONGRATULATIONS on your achievements and THANK YOU for sharing the wonderful pictures.
Wishing everyone an excellent weekend:)
For the record, I must mention that I wasn't wearing any makeup in the before photo, and I was heavily spackled for the after photo. ![]()
And, truthfully, my wonderful DH Ron loves my rants and thinks that they (and me) are hysterically funny at times .... sometimes his laughing gets him in a LOT of trouble when it distracts me from a good, cathartic rant.
Somedays I still rant about dieting, other days I find plenty to rant about between (a) current events; (b) politics; (c) stupid people; (d) the military; (e) wild kittens; (f) global warming; and -- of course -- (g) shopping!!!
I just couldn't give up ranting ... it's my main source of exercise (next to Snoopy Happy Dancing, of course!)

Yay, sarahrip, for 2 more pounds GONE! Wooo hooo!
2beittybitty ... sorry you had to Google the ICBINB ... I forget that not everyone around here speaks "MollySpeak" ... lol.
HANDY REFERENCE: MOLLY-SPEAK
ICBINB ... I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray! It has zero calories (for up to about 5 squirts, then figure a few calories per squirt after that. Great for veggies, on toast, even added to stir-fry.
UVAB ... Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze ... super low-calorie/low-carb almond milk. One cup is just 40 calories ... less than 1/2 the calories of skim milk!
WF ... Walden Farms. Walden Farms makes these nifty zero-calorie salad dressings (balsamic vinaigrette and bacon ranch are my faves), caramel dip (awesome on apples), chocolate syrup (great in UVAB), cocktail sauce (wonderful on shrimp), grape spread (great on TLMEMs) etc. Available at very limited stores, or online at www.waldenfarms.com.
TLMEMs ... Thomas' Light Multigrain English Muffins ... just 100 calories each and they have 8 grams of fiber per muffin. Much better than their other 100-calorie muffins, and tons more fiber. They freeze well, so stock up!!!
LCLGMCBs ... Laughing Cow Light Gourmet Mini Cheese Bites ... these great little sugar-cube-sized pieces of individually foil-wrapped soft cheese. They will satisfy every cheese craving, they take a minute to eat so you savor every bite, and I just love love love them! Did I mention that each cube is just 7 calories?
DH ... Dear Hubby ... or, in my case "my wonderful DH Ron" (hee hee hee) I am happily married to Ron, a fighter pilot on active duty (military, obviously), currently in his 25th year of military service. We've been married about 4.5 years ... our 5th wedding anniversary is coming up in April. PICTURE OF MY DH
ME ... MollyMouser (Molly for short). My screen name comes from my favorite kitty cat, named (amazingly enough) MollyMouse. SILLY PICTURE OF ME and, of course, a PICTURE OF MOLLYMOUSE THE CAT. I use a screen name because my real first name is Harvie, and I get pretty tired explaining (over and over again) that yes, I'm a girl, named after my dad, and no ... Harvie isn't short for anything and no, it isn't a nickname.
MY CAR ... Ever wonder what I drive? (Probably not... LOL!) Well, it's a Screaming Yellow Ford Mustang (rubber ducky yellow, actually) ... MY CAR. You will note that my wonderful DH actually painted the garage floor for me to match my car. And, wonderful man that he is ... he bought me personalized plates ... PHOTO because of THIS on my antenna.
MY FURKIDS ... We have two dogs and .... ummm.... (whispering) .... fourteen cats, so I am not not not gonna post all their photos here. Suffice it to say that there are six orange tabbies, two grey tabbies, five black and white cats and one grey and white cat (MollyMouse). Clearly, I have a "thing" for orange tabbies. The photo in my avatar? That's Fuzzball.... he's famous. (He's been on Cute Overload and the cover of a calendar ... photos I took, woo hoo!) FUZZBALL IN A SALAD BOWL ... FUZZBALL AS A SLEEPING KITTEN ... FUZZBALL'S CALENDAR COVER ... FUZZBALL UPSIDE DOWN ... FUZZBALL ON MY LAPTOP ... FUZZBALL ALL GROWN UP ...

Oooh your garage is clean!!!! Can someone teach my husband about tidy garages? And cute car too.
I've been blessed with a NEAT wonderful DH ... you should see how tidy and organized he keeps his sock drawer! (Must be that military training, huh?)
Of course, it helps that I'm pretty organized, too... THIS IS MY PANTRY.
=^..^= MOLLY
Caro
I dunno, but I don't think its the military training cuz if it was, my DH missed out on it buuut he does want it to look like that soooo in a couple of yrs it may.(we just moved in here in May) My dh has 21 yrs in the Navy and it did not get him organized well not at home anyways lol but he isn't that bad so I shouldn't complain. I went looking for the English muffins and love them! thanks for all your great tips!! your AWESOME Molly!! Love your car so does my 6 yr old son (car man just like his Daddy)
Molly, come organize my closests please!!! ![]()
Ditto on the military training not doing the trick - my husband's ex-Marine (although not career, he got out after Vietnam) I guess he conformed while he was in, but it didn't stick. Sigh. He has every power tool known to mankind (on the plus side, he knows how to use them all). I have to say though that my pantry, although smaller, is almost as organized as yours. I love that you have a picture of it.
Molly,
My DH was in he Army for almost 6 years and he still goes crazy every once in a while and does all that fancy stuff to his socks. He usually does do it when he goes somewhere, ya know the tiny little rolled up thing. That seems to be the only area is organized in though, but I do think it is strange when we have company over and he seems to find the areas no one will see, like the bottom of my entertainment center, where no one looks, those are the areas he cleans first it seems.
Also, he still loves the smell of Pine Sol cleaner from his Army days. He likes to reminisce about inspections and if nothing else they made it smell clean.
I too really like your car!! I'm afraid here in Ohio that would have some rust on it...lol.
So ... Sarahrip's DH was in the Navy 21 years .... and Meganr's DH was in the Marines ... and 4squares' DH was in the Army ... and none of them are uber-organized neat freaks like my DH? Hmmm.... I am sure that he would PROUDLY point out at this point that the AIR NATIONAL GUARD (USAF) is clearly the superior service branch! hee hee hee

Energygirl asks what we do with our menagerie when we go on vacation? Our two little doglets (Minnie and Corey) get lovingly boarded together at the vet's office ... they have doggy daycare, a doggy spa, as well as boarding facilities. Our doggies only sleep indoors in their crate ... and need to be let out for potty breaks, and it's usually too hot or too cold here to leave them outside all day since they are little dogs with short fur. (Minnie is a 12 pound mini pin, Corey is a 10 pound Corgi-terrier mix)
As to our cats, one of our good friends comes over every day after work to scoop cat boxes, bring in mail, bring in porch packages, put wet food on the porch for our 2-legged feral cat, and to make sure the inside kitties have plenty of dry food, fresh water, and attention. Sometimes she spends the night. She won't let us pay her, so we buy her really nifty presents from wherever we go.
* * *
Speaking of cats ... as some of you know, we had 15 and we "rehomed" Sally about 2 months ago because she just needed more attention and fewer cat buddies. She is doing very well in her new home, with just 1 other cat. SALLY
After much prayerful consideration, we also decided to list Jeremy for adoption with a local no-kill rescue (1.5 year old male) since lately he's been bullying other cats and showing signs of wanting his space. We chose him for rehoming since he is an awesomely friendly and mellow cat who gets along great with dogs and kids -- unlike many of our other kitties. Anyway, we got a GREAT adoption application for him, and the couple is coming over tonight to meet Jeremy. If they like him, they will take him on a 30-day trial basis. Part of me is sad/weepy over (possibly) saying good-bye to my "Squirmy" (what I call him rather than Jeremy), but I also know that we have an obligation to our furry friends to ensure them the very best quality of life ... and we think this will be a better situation for him. (He would be an only cat ... they lost their adult male cat about a year ago to cancer. He would be indoor-only, and they have a 15-month old child. It does seem ideal.) JEREMY
We rescued Jeremy in the summer of 2006 from the local, high-kill shelter. He was a very sick little kitten, on the PTS list (put to sleep) because he was showing signs of illness. So we brought him home, and $1000 later, he was on the road to recovery and doing very well. But he didn't get along with MollyMouse, so he became a "back of the house" cat. (The two halves of our house are separated by a beveled glass door in the hallway.) JEREMY AS A KITTEN It's been wonderful hearing his purrs and sharing his snuggles for the past year and a half, but I think now is the time to let him go and rule the roost in his own home. (sniff)
Sheesh. No wonder we can't have kids ... I cry when my CATS leave the nest. What a noodle I am.
=^..^= MOLLY
Yay! Jeremy got adopted. ![]()

Wow, Molly!!!
You are fixing to reach... 1000!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
That is Really cool!!!! ![]()
Molly, I'm happy/sad for you on the adoption of Jeremy. My older cat, who is supposed to be dieing any moment, shows no signs of illness at all. I think she's actually gained weight although the vet said (six weeks ago) that she would stop eating and die within a month or two. I'm so happy she's having great quality of life for as long as possible.
I twisted my ankle yesterday and am hobbling around with a cane and ankle wrap today. This does nothing for my plan to walk a lot to combat holiday holiday gibbly-gain. I have not decorated the house and have barely started shopping.
On the other hand, my MIL did go home. Just kidding, she's a very sweet lady.
