140/130 club timbergrove

Anyone in this grouping looking to drop from 140 to 130's.  We can all use support.  Today I am focusing on all the food groups.  Exercise would be good, but I won't be able to since I am working from 9 to 10:30.  A Super long day.  I hope I can stay focused, when I pass the fast food chaines on my travels today.

what a bummer tara! It's raining off and on here..  hopefully you'll get to take him out soon! I really want a dog... but there aren't many apartments around here that accomodate to dogs so I'll def. have to wait till I get a house..
#882 ashleyrd Mar 28 2007 15:06
i am about 5' 9" and 140lbs, so i don't think that i need to lose any weight, but the problem is that i had child-inset athsma (21 now so its pretty much gone) and my endurance is very low.  i get winded very easily so i hate exercising because it is embarassing to be so young but be wheezing after 5 mins on the eliptical.  any ideas on good nutrition plans to help me lose some body fat or exercise plans that will help my endurance?  thanx every one.
#883 kiigan Mar 28 2007 15:17
this is too funny--i actually had to take notes so that i could respond to people, lol :)

tara--love the goals.  they're REALLY similar to mine.  dream goal is 125, but i'll be more than happy if i don't make it down there so long as i keep losing inches :)  green tea has some antioxidant or chemical that is supposed to raise your metabolism in a similar way as the caffeine in coffee, but the effect is probably negligble.  but it's good for you, and it's great to drink water. so go for it! good job at wendy's too--i'm a total sucker for frosties, lol :)

dj--glad to hear you got the bike out! i'm thinking about pulling mine down from where it's hanging the garage.  but it got a little colder here, so doubt i'll be doing that today :)

unicat
--glad you found your kitten!!! or your son found it, rather :) and like others have said--don't stress too much.  just go with it, don't over indulge, but don't overly deny yourself.

srd--i'm like you. i'm gonna get to about 135, and then focus more on dropping inches and toning rather than the number on the scale.  i think i'll prob stop weighing every day at that point.

ashley
--i would say to just start really really slowly.  just walk on the treadmill at a low incline at a reasonable pace (3-3.5 mph) for as long as you can, then just focus on gradually increasing those numbers.  the best thing that you can do is to just start slow then work on building up your endurance through cardio.  strength training really isn't going to help with beginning endurance that much, so slow, low incline/low resistance stuff is the way to go for you, probably.

i'm also back down to 141.5! dropped 1.5 lbs overnight :) lol.  didn't make my run last night but did do my 30 min ab workout! i can make my own dinner tonight at whatever time i want, so i'm going to make sure i get out for a jog.  i'm also very sore from my training session yesterday :)
#884 kiigan Mar 28 2007 16:11
This is an article about the idea of "drawing in" the stomach during exercise (particulary ab workouts). Says it's really not as helpful as many seem to think, and it has been overly-popularized.

Yeah, I'll probably go back to weighing in once a week once I get to 135. I'll probably weigh in every day for like 2 weeks once I get there just to make sure it's real... lol!
#886 unicat Mar 28 2007 17:42
thanks all for the encouragement ...  still at 144.5 this morning, keep hoping to see it drop down and below my new low from the other day.. lol..  but hey, it didnt go up, so i am okay...for now lol..

courtney - the trip to italy would be all the motivation i would need lol..  and if you have a bad cold you should take it easy til you start feeling better, only do what your body can tolerate, like maybe some light walking, and make sure you get plenty of fluids so you dont dehydrate from being sick...

stacey - yeah i am glad we found the kitty, hubby was relieved to hear we found her too.. lol..  i am going to do my best on these outings, so many of em all at once, it will be hard to lose anything, so just gonna try to maintain... like you said :)

uno - lol about the skirt... bet even though it was a panicky situation since you had to stop on your way to work to get something else, it made you feel good didnt it :)

tara - hope the rain lets up to allow you to get some walking in :)

ashley - i would say that the best thing for you to do is work into it slowly, like someone who is just starting to get into exercise would do, ten minute walks at a slow pace..  then try to increase your speed a little bit, after your body adjusts to going that far in a quicker time, try to go a little farther...

morgan - yup, go with the flow, lol..  hopefully tonights food wont be toooooo tempting lol..  i am actually surprised they are going to have food at this meeting...  yay on being back down to 141.5 :) i would like to see that number, please?? lol..  bummer you are sore from yesterdays training, but at least you can tell you worked those muscles right lol... what are you feelings on "drawing in"..?? i try to keep my stomach muscles pulled in tight when i am working out, but frankly have a hard time doing so, its like i have none at all lol..

i dont know if hitting my goal weight will make a difference on how often i weigh myself, i think i will be tooo paranoid that i am going to gain it back if i dont watch it constantly..  by the time i get to goal i will have lost 73 lbs, and i sure as heck dont want to gain any of that back :( so we will see how that goes.. once i reach goal (almost put an "IF" in there, but i WILL reach goal.. no matter how long it takes lol)

have a good wednesday all, and drink LOTS OF WATER... (dee where are you? i didnt see a post from you??)

~Brigitte~

I'm here!  I am ssoooo tired--the grandbaby kept me up till 1, and I was back up at 5ish (I hit the snooze a lot!).  I only have gotten 20 oz of water so far today :( but I am dressed and ready for a bike ride!  It is a bit chillier today (45-50) but the sun is shining so bright I can't resist! So off I go exercising on another rest day!

There are so many of us here, I can't respond to everyone either, LOL!
Just keep on keepin' on guys!

Ashley--check and see what your doc reccommends for beginners like yourself.  Because you have a history of asthma, it's important.

My bike is calling me...

Hullo everyone !

Kiigan : that was a nice article ! I found it pretty interesting.. There is such a persistent myth about sucking in abs. Very odd to hear that it may be wrong !

I really need to find a way to do my abs more regularly.

For the past couple of days I've had this problem :

I reach my limit of 1200 to 1400 calories by early evening (3 to 4ish) !!!! And I know I cant skip dinner - so I try to eat salads and have a protein shake to keep the calories somewhere near a "dieting" limit... Its annoying! I know the solution - to restrict my calories from early on - but I've been very hungry for the past couple of weeks. I hope I'm not in the process of getting used to high calorific intakes, like I was used to before I started counting calories..

Any thoughts anyone?

Tara, I agree with kiigan.. Green tea is good for sure.. but it doesnt have any immediate effects that help weight loss. (I've been drinking 3-4 cups regularly for almost a couple of months. )

Ashley - take it easy to begin with and slowly build it up. Is your doctor fine with you starting to exercise regularly ? Have you had pulmonary function tests (PFTs) done in the recent past - to judge the extent of your lung function ? If not, you could get some figures as to how much exercise you can safely handle..

So glad your kitten is safe and sound, Unicat :)... Ohh , they are soooo cute !!

Dee - so nice to hear you are spending time with your grandchild!!
#889 unicat Mar 28 2007 19:15
hey dee :) what a way to bond with the new grandbaby lol..   get some more water in :P  and enjoy your bike ride :)

carabo - definitely try to average out your intake throughout the day... it will help, especially if you eat every couple of hours...

well did my taebo - and now am off to shower...  then feed the littles cos they just woke up..  gonna have to wait til i get washed off though, cant stand sitting here in sweat, and dont let them eat without me around to keep an eye on em...

#890 kiigan Mar 28 2007 20:11
unicat--i hate sitting in sweat, but then i dry off and i'm like--i'm dry now! no shower needed! lol :) i'm really lazy about showering sometimes :)  as far as "drawing in" i try to keep my core tensed, but not necessarily sucked in.  i have to do it in order to keep from arching my lower back or sticking out my stomach when i do a lot of strength training exercises.  especially chest presses--i tend to try and use my back to help push out instead of just my shoulders.

carabo--i would just say try to eat lower calorie stuff.  by the time i leave work (5) i've usually gotten in about 1000 cals.  i eat about 300-350 calories for breakfast, a yogurt and apple for pre lunch snack, then turkey sandwich or spinach salad for lunch, banana or other piece of fruit and granola bar or other form of carb-y food for post lunch snacks.  then dinner at home. then i chug water or tea during the day to curb hunger.  works well for me!

enjoy the bike ride dee! gonna go for a run as soon as i get home! woohoo!  it's a little bit grey and chilly here, but i can do it. heck, i was running in 30 degree weather back in november! not often--but i was :) lol :)
#891 kiigan Mar 28 2007 20:15
okay--you guys have to check this out. i have it up all day at work. it is the CUTEST thing ever

Zoo Atlanta Panda Cam

The baby panda was born last September and her name is Mei Lan.  Basically the panda cam just follows her around all day from 10-5 est.
#892 unicat Mar 28 2007 22:50
sooooooooooo cute....
#893 djrizzo Mar 29 2007 13:52
Good morning!  I tried to look at the panda cam last night--didn't pay attention to the time.  I will try again today at work.

I'm so tired, I could fall asleep sitting up!  It is sooooo hard to exercise when I'm this tired!  My legs feel like noodles!

Hope everyone has a super day!

#894 kiigan Mar 29 2007 14:02
there must be a sleeping bug or something going around because i can't even REMEMBER the last time i was this tired in the morning.  my break from early morning gym must've gotten me out of the groove.  oh man.  i was up a little later last night, too, though. i think it is early to bed with me tonight!  i did make it to the gym, but my coffee isn't kicking in yet...i didn't even make myself a sandwich this morning i was so pooped.

up to 143 again (poo!).  but actually, not that poo-ey because that's still pretty good for a high :) i just REALLY want to get myself to hit 140 just ONCE before april 1 :)

i also realized i had a pretty big deficit yesterday after i had eaten dinner. i burned about 700 kcals exercising between gym in teh AM and a run in the PM, and had only eaten about 1500.  that put me at about a 1000 deficit--NOT GOOD FOR ME! so i ate some yogurt and a granola bar and knocked it down to like 750 or so. better, but still a bit big for comfort. today will be lower.
#895 srd1214 Mar 29 2007 14:31
maybe there is something in the air making everyone sleepy! i'm normal today.... not very tired.

Nothing exciting here. Had a fruity cheerios binge last night... lol... took me back up to 139.4. But that is ok as long as that is as high as it goes! I am eating less calories today to see what happens... hopefully I'll be good this weekend!

I'm going for a bike ride tomorrow. I'm going to get a fruit smoothie from a little shop down the street, then go to the local bike store to have them install my odometer. Hooray! I also want to go for a bike ride on Saturday. May stop somewhere on the way for some grub. Haven't decided where though... Maybe subway? Yum...

kiigan- I did the huge deficit thing at the beginning of the week cuz of my bike ride and my weight was up in the morning... slowly, slowly working my way back down! :)
#896 uno100 Mar 29 2007 14:53
Ugh - the scale says I'm up a pound and even though I know it's water weight and wearing pants to the gym, it still feels crappy.

I had Pizza Slut last night for dinner, which is soooo salty that I always blow up like a balloon the next day. I was good about the calories, so I shouldn't have gained any real weight.

I've got to buy more shorts so that my weight at the gym makes more sense! It's crazy to feel depressed b/c I changed my outfit! Silly, silly me.

unicat - congrats on finding the kitty. Strangely enough, my sister just lost her cat yesterday. What's going on? Cats everywhere are running for the hills!
#897 djrizzo Mar 29 2007 15:38
Ha! Sometimes I wish my cats would run for the hills!  They are nuts!

I refuse to weigh myself every day--talk about driving me nuts!  I hop on maybe once a week, but no more than that.  I have been close to throwing the dang thing out the window because I fluctuate so much!

I do believe that loads of water cures all slips in the diet!  It can prevent bloating during TTOM too, so I guess that means I better get my butt in gear!

#898 kiigan Mar 29 2007 16:55
oh yeah...i'm about to hit ttom too...but i haven't really noticed any consistent weight patterns around then so i generally don't take it into account.  my sodium was up a little yesterday (it'll be up a little today, too--guess i've gotta keep chugging!) and i had the huge deficit, so yeah.  we'll see what happens :) i read that unless your weight flucutates up by more than 3% (about 4 lbs for me), you shouldn't worry. but if it goes up by more than that, be careful :)

lmao @ Pizza Slut. what a great name. i'm a domino's girl myself :) and jet's pizza. jet's pizza is SOOOO yummy. i hate wearing shorts because i hate my legs so much :) but they've slimmed down a little bit (still not slim--i'll always have big legs) so i guess i'll wear shorts again. i wore them running on monday and that was the first time i've worn shorts in public since...summer of 2005.  go me :) i wore capris ALL last summer :) my shorts didn't fit well and hell if i'm going to buy more clothes that i detest wearing anyways! :)

stacey--i LOVE fruit smoothies. but i'm really getting into making my own with protein in 'em.  didn't have one yesterday even though i REALLY wanted one because it would've put my protein up to around..oohhh...about 120 grams :) lol.

i'm getting a tuna sub from jimmy john's for lunch and i'm TOTALLY excited about it :) can't wait! plus the baby panda's being SUPER cute right now so check her out!
#899 prettybowen Mar 29 2007 16:55
Hi All, Im new to this group. I am at 149 and I am afraid of fluctuating back and forth between 150. When I become a more "solid" 140 member, I guess I will be more confident. I am struggling today mostly b/c I am having a bad day...not weight related stuff...anyways....

I started running with a program called "Coach Potato to a 5K Runner" on coolrunning.com. It was worked so far. I am in week 3 and about to start 4. I can feel my endurance is up and I don't get as out of breath as fast as I used to. My eating habits have improved....but I MISS fried chicken.

Have a good day everyone, hopefully you won't be as grumpy as me today ;o)
#900 kiigan Mar 29 2007 17:00
welcome pretty! always great to have new people! i hope that your day picks up.  if not--go for a run later--that ALWAYS helps me out. have you signed up for a 5K yet? i found out that the one i wanted to do in april is the same date that i'm in vermont visiting my sister at college so i can't do it :(  but glad to hear the program is working out for you! i never understood why people would want to run--but now i really enjoy it as long as i'm doing it outside and not on a treadmill, lol :)
