Trying to lose 10 lbs. forever club toniahayes
  May 30 2007 23:53
I am interested in finding others who have been struggling for a long time with losing the "last 10 lbs". .  I've been battling to lose 10 lbs for many years.  Actually, I've lost 10 in the last year but I needed to lose 20 a year ago (not just 10).

I run, bike and swim now and have been participating in running 5k's and triathlons.  I have firmed up but would like to wear a size 8 comfortably.  I may want to go on to a size 6 next.

I think that if I had some friends with the same goals, then I would stay motivated.  Maybe we can share ideas and recipes.

Let me know if you are out there and interested.

Hey,

I finally figured out how to put a picture up.  This was my first 10k.  I was about 5 lbs heavier then.

Ohio45:Yes, I do beleive I need to do pilates or yoga.  What has been helping  is that I know I'm not dying, like I thought at first.  Also, taking my suppliments and reducing stress has helped.  The thing I think is helping most is taking pysillium every evening before bed.  I read that fiber carries excess estogen out of the body and that's the only explanation I have for why it is working.  I really do believe it is hormonal and stress related.  I did four triathlons last year and I know they probably put excess stress on my body along with other stress events.  I didn't really take care of myself when I went to Santa Fe and I believe the stress of a different time zone, drinking too much, and the heavy tri training sent me over the edge.  My first attack was when I got back after a 1 1/2 hr swim at 5:30 AM and then a four mile run.  I had the first attack that night.  My doctor thought it was electrolytes...  the next attack wasn't until one month later.

Dievans: Maybe we can declare February Clean Eating Month.  I would be up for that. I just eliminated caffeine from my diet.  Would love to cut out sugar and I really need to be eating hormone free meat.  I drink soy and and horm/antibiotic free milk.

Cc1170:  I'm relieved that you figured out what was going on.  It's times like these that we learn to cut out everything unnecessary.  Hope you are feeling yourself again soon.

Weigh-in: 146.8 down -2lbs  from last week.  I still can't beleive I got up to 148.8.  That was depressing!  I just have to remember that I put it on quickly and it will come off quickly.

Today: walk/ran 4 miles in am; going for 45 min walk this evening.

Have a great night!!

Yesterday: Met  calorie goal; Walk/ran 4 mi. in the morning and walked forty-five minutes in the evening instead of pilates.  I still have to clean the file drawer from Monday.  I think I will start setting extra exercise as my consequences, although my file drawers could use some cleaning.

My challenge for yesterday was Red Lobster. We got there and it was too crowded so we went to Steak n Shake.  I ordered a salad from their lighter menu.  My son ordered french fries which are my weakness.  I managed to eat only a few and counted them in my calorie allotment.  French fries are another challenge when I eat out with my son.

My Plan for today:  Go to the gym for a weight workout.  Upper and lower body.

Plan for tomorrow: Bike 12 miles; 1600 calories

List your greatest challenge and how you will overcome that challenge.  Today I am going out to lunch with a friend.  The restaurant serves Quiche which I love.  I will look up the calories to see if I can manage it.  If not, I will snack healthily before I go and order soup.

Consequences or rewards:  If I meet all of my goals for today I get to shop for that new blouse on Friday.  If I don't meet my goals today I will walk for forty-five  minutes tonight.

Ohio45: yes , you can make the angle food cake in a 9 x 13.  I use a 15 oz can of crushed pineapple instead of the water.  The cake doesn't look at pretty as when it is made with the tube.  I wish you success with the weight over the weekend.  You can do it!

Tando:  Thanks for sharing the title of that book. What's the difference between obsessing.  When I stopped what I considered obsessing, I gained the weight back.  I would love to have a great relationship with food.  Maybe you can share somemore of the book with us.  We do hope to see you around.

See you all later

Thanks again for your thoughts everybody! I am feeling much better. But as it turns out, after we got the lab results back they showed "no allergic reaction"? So don't really know what that was all about or what the heck is going on. Maybe it was a virus, but what a wicked virus. High fever, chills, awful headache, aches, and fatigue. Lasted 4 days...enough for me...I am feeling much better today...anyhow.

Ohio-You sound like you are doing great keep up the hard work, the extra few lbs will be off in no time! Hope your arm heals up soon, mine was sore a while last year and that was no fun, makes it hard to exercise like that...

Tando- The book you were talking about explained my eating habits in that section as well. You and I must be similar in styles...would explain our connection to this site.

Tonia- I checked out your pic and you look great! I hardly ever eat in restaurants because I always have to figure out what I am going to eat ahead of time. I usually do pretty well, but sometimes I just choose to cave. I do better just fixing myself food at home, I am much better disciplined.

Di-Yes, your dau must be super bright. I wish I had that knack for math. It is not my favorite subject at all. You should be proud.

Well ladies. I am just taking a break from studies and from everything at all...and just getting ready to hit the sheets for the night.

Hope you all have a great day and meet all your goals!

Ohio:Bless your heart!  I am listening to you and I am so sad that people around us can't be supportive of our weight loss plans.  I'll never forget the time I went to a friend's house and she made this decadent brownie pie and home-made ice cream.  I felt like she went through so much trouble that I took a piece even though I was trying desperately to lose weight.  Right after I filled my plate I notice she wasn't having any, so I asked her why.  Her response was that she was cutting back in order to fit into her bathing suit.  It made me sick because she already had a killer body.

Just know we are cheering you on!

Cc:  I agree with Tando, you do sound like yourself again.  Welcome back!!

Tando: Thanks for sharing the book info.

So far today I've stayed within my calories.  I left the house early for a bike-ride only to get to my destination and realize we were under-dressed for the weather.  My friend and I used the time to go over this book we are reading called "Love Hunger" about Compulsive Over Eating.  I also went to an OA Online meeting last night.  I really think that I need a program like that.  I was recently reviewing all of the diets I've been on and the failures.  It's not as if  I am trying to get to my high-school weight.  I just want to shed 10 lbs. to be more comfortable on many levels.  Anywhy, I enjoyed the meeting.

I think I'll take the dogs for a walk this evening and do some stretches.

 Have a wonderful evening everyone.Wink

Hi, I'm new and do indeed have (quite literally) that last 10lb to lose, I'd love to join you if that's ok?

My name's Abi, I'm down to 144lb from 182 about 18 months ago.  I'm 5'11" and a very small frame, ideally I'd like to get back to my fittest which was (guess...) 134lb only about 3 years ago.  Yes, I put on nearly 50lb in 18 months following a hideous injury.  I'm back in training form (or as close as will ever get) and working on the stubborn 10lb that just won't go from my hips/thighs.

Hints and tips are always gratefully appreciated.  Thank you.

Hello everyone!

It is so nice to see everyone is making progress!  Today I went to the gym and I did a class called BodyFlow.  It is a very intense class that is a combination of Tai Chi, Pilates, and Yoga.  I really loved it.  My scale is still at the same exact spot.  I have exactly 10 pounds to lose!

Abi:Congratulations on your weight loss!  Do you exercise?  You are very tall and I know you said you are small boned.  Make sure you check with your physician to make sure your goal isn't too low.  Good luck!

Tando: I know what you mean about nuts!  I love them.  If you have to shell peanuts, it slows you down.  I also love almonds, pecans, and cashews.

Tonia: You look fab in your photo!  I can't figure out how to put a photo up.  It was really nice to put a face to a name.  I am glad to hear you are feeling better.  Do you train by yourself?  I have found that training with a group really is theraputic.

CC: I am glad to hear you are feeling better too!  This can be such a challenging time of year to maintain health.

Ohio: I hope the company is going well.  Enjoy the conversation and companionship.

Well, my daughter and I are going to go do some shopping.

Have a great day!

Hi everyone! Welcome Abi! Good to see you Madhu!

I did get over my illness and am dealing with a little tummy stuff today. I think my immune system is just way down. Since I am around young school age kids and college age kids, I am getting the best of both worlds on a daily basis. I can't seem to get a break or recover from any of this crap. I saw my bloodwork and my White blood cell count was down, meaning my body is terribly busy fighting off infections and my immune system is down. But I need to keep going. I need to go to my classes and need to keep taking care of my kids and getting them to their functions and what not. Gotta do what you gotta do. Until it winds you up in the hospital I guess...just kidding.

Anyway. I am trying to stay under 1500 calories a day. That has been a struggle lately. Most days I am at about 1300. I am not really getting exercise so going to and from place to place is about it. So far so good. Scale is staying at goal, so I am maintaining. I am going to concentrate on getting exercise in when health and time allow.

Take care all! Gotta run! time for class!

Ohio45: Make me laugh why don't you :-) :-) Can you imagine that?  All of us kicking our healthy eating and exercise out the door to lay on the couch and drink :-0

I've heard that it's 5 oz of Red Wine that they have found is beneficial and that more than that is counter-productive.  I've temporarily quit white wine because it's hard for me to stop at 5 oz.

DiEvans: Thanks for the compliment.  I found it easier to get the photo up using CC Plus instead of the CC Classic.  I just put the photo on my "Desktop" and when it said "browse", then I went to desktop and uploaded it.  I do workout with partners as much as possible.  My neighbor has become one of my best workout partners.  We run together and sometimes bike.  My husband works out with me and I have a couple of others that I am able to meet from time to time.  Sometimes to break it up, I go to group exercise at the gym.  I really enjoy it when I do but it dosen't always fit into my schedule.

Abi: Yes, please join us.  You should be so proud of the weight loss.  I'm am sad that you had an accident that set you back so far.  It must be a challenge to get 50 lbs off but you are doing it and should be so happy with your success.

Good morning,

I am at school and this is my lunch, so I thought I would drop you all a line.  I am doing well, but I am having a problem with my left foot.  I have tingling, numbness, and pain on the top part of my foot.  I rested it for 2 days, but it still feels the same.  I think I am going to continue to rest it for another day or so and see what happens.  I guess I may have to make time for a visit to the doctor.  I just don't have the time!

My son has a cold and yesterday started complaining of an ear ache.  I gave him tylenol and a decongestant, but he refused to stay home from school.  I had our school nurse look at his ear with a scope and she said it was definitely red and inflamed.  So, I made an appointment for him after school.  If I get done in time, I want to go to a pilates class.  I will give up jumping on my foot, but not on exercise all together.

If I find time when I get home, maybe I will try to post a photo.

Have a great day everyone,

di

Di- I hope you get to the bottom of the foot problem soon.

Ohio45: The sinus thing sounds like a bummer.  I pray you get over it soon.

Went to a funeral yesterday, it was the longest funeral I've ever been to and one of the largest.  I knew ahead of time that I would probably stress eat after and that is exactly what I did.  My husband and I went to a restaurant and ate Prime Rib.  I tried to make up for it the rest of the evening by having a grapefruit and a bowl of cereal and going for a 45 minute walk.  I'll see if I did any damage when I step on the scale this morning.

Today:  My plan is to run this evening.  Consume 1500 calories today.

Hope all is well with Cc1179, Tando, Abi_wj, and madhul2002

Good morning,

I am sitting at my computer eating yogurt,so I thought I would drop you all a line.  I am down 1 pound from my original 10 to lose.  So I guess that means 9 to lose.  I went to pilates last night, but I had a terrible time.  I couldn't point or flex my foot properly and I couldn't do a plank at all.  I am so frustrated.  I have an appointment tomorrow at 1:30.  The appointment will probably result in tests of some sort and more waiting.  It is just the weirdest pain/sensation I have ever had. I have never had the pain and tingling on the top of my foot.

Ohio: Good luck with the sinus infection.  If you don't feel overly hungry, keep yourself well hydrated and your energy level won't suffer as much.  And no, I didn't injure my foot at all.  It just started hurting.

Tonia: My husband loves prime rib.  It is a fatty meat, but I guess that is what makes it taste good.  I have started to look at my diet as an overall effort.  I try to look at the whole week and evaluate myself on how I did instead of just day by day.  I wish calorie count had an option like that.

Well, lunch is over.

Di
