Hey all,

How's it going? So this morning was disappointing for me. I stepped on the scale and it showed a gain for the second week in a row. I thought it would because last night I allowed myself to eat in moderation but I know for a fact that none of my sodium intake went over 2400 mg. Last week I had a gain too. This is really hard for me. I like to use the scale to show what success I have made but I'm thinking about not stepping on it but only once a month ((((bootser gladly hands scale over to Molly))))). I honestly see changes in my face & my body and even my husband says so. I just don't understand the scale. It's like I'm missing some magic thing and until I find it my body won't let go of this weight. I have noticed a pattern in my weight loss for those of you that wonder. I usually lose weight only 2 weeks out of the month and it usually comes to a grand total of 1 to 2 pounds a month. I do everything that Molly suggest & everyone else. I eat vegetables and fruit like crazy,I watch my sodium, I limit my sugar, I drink over 4 liters of water a day, I exercise--and if anything I have one thing on my side and it's my age--lol--I'm only 23 years old--I love to exercise. Today I am joining an exercise group. I really do try not to focus on the numbers. Like I said my face is changing, my clothes feel better, I am getting some muscles but it would be soooo nice to see that scale number go down! I have been with CC for  3 1/2 months now and have lost a grand total of 7 pounds which I really think should be more. This is a lifestyle change for me and I'm very committed to eating this way and living this way for the rest of my life because I didn't like the way I felt before but I just can't figure it out--I'm stumped. So if it takes me 5 years to get this weight off I will , I will do this but you know we all have secrets in our head and I was hoping to be 40 pounds lighter by my graduation in June but I will be happy at that time just knowing where I started and at least I won't be 40 pounds bigger in June! Ok, I don't mean to be a downer, I just had to rant. So my scale seems to go up up up and then 1 pound or 2 pound loss a month, I will get there eventually--I guess I will be the turtle who eventually wins the race.  Everyone is doing great!

Ok, it's good to write a post because then you can re-evaluate it and see what you need to do differently. I starting to think maybe I just need to be more active. So I am going to start being more active this week and it starts today with me going to the exercise class. Yes, I have been execercising but only for combined 1 hour and 20 minutes a week for 4 weeks with a personal trainer----but I need to try to be active for atleast 1 hour a day--and so I'm going to do these classes--I think I will give this 1 hour a day activity a try and then see what happens. I'm honesty a pretty sedentary person but I figured if my burn meter says 2100 and I eat 1400, I should still be able to lose 1  pound a week. But I think I might be one of those people that 2BB talked about that there is an exception to the rule and the burn meter--I'm the exception!. I'm good now guys just had to self-reflect---all right, I'm off to be active!

Thanks, HB! Laughing

I'm going to try to play with that later today-- I hope! I'm Lurking today due to it being my 'Saturday Cleaning Day.'  I'm usually too busy on weekends to talk/type much, but I'm interested in your musings... Muse on! Laughing

I AM reading... just to let ya' know! WinkLaughing

I've noticed most of the Gang seems busy on weekends, too... Actually, it's not even a good time for new threads  in the community forums, either, for the threads I've tried-- which usually consist of questions I want answers to on Friday nights, lol! Just not a good time, I've learned! Annoying...! SurprisedTongue out

Hope your weekend is happy and healthy! Laughing

* waves to bootser1! *

Sorry for the aggravating scale! I found I really grew some muscle as I began serious weight lifting- called 'newbie gain?' Especially with your age! It is only the first months, but your body has a LOT of changing and adapting going on in the growth process and stores weight/water in your muscles to help you... Maybe talk to your trainer for some reassurance? My scale and weight loss pattern are similar to your's, too- so don't feel alone!!! What matters most IS the looks/inches/fit of our clothes/how we feel so much more in control of our movements/coordination and life/health/weight...and the new options we can enjoy without the old embarrassments! * whew! *  Ain't it GRAND? Wink

The scale is no longer my entire measure of success! Wooo Hooo!!! Laughing

Enjoy your lovely improvements, and have a great weekend, anyway! Rootin' for you! WinkLaughing

I'm here, I'm here! *wave*

I'm just procrastinating on starting my workout today.......... Lazy butt me......... I just got to do today and then tomorrow I get off! Yay!

I will stay motivated!! I'm only 1.5 lbs away from my 2nd mini goal! It's 195 and I'm hoping to be that on this next Friday's weigh in!

Wooo Hoooo!!!! Laughing

GOOD JOB!!!! Cool

Hi G4G gang!  I've had a little overwhelming time the past couple of weeks and stepped away from the CC stuff for a while to refocus at home.  Doing good now and will check back on here now and then to say hi.  Things are tough right now so I'm "dealing".  I just wanted to check in to see how people are doing and give a quick update.

I haven't gone back and read all that I've missed in the thread (it's a lot Undecided) but I have read a little and it seems like a frustrating start to the year for many of us!  Mine isn't from weight loss, but I've been notified that I will have to move out of my house in 2 months because they are tearing it down (military housing).  They are giving us a brand new house, BUT moving a household with 3 young children by myself should be a BLAST Yell.

I am now down to 180.2 (28 pounds gone) and 5 pounds from my next mini goal of 175 by Feb 2 when my parents come to visit for a week.  I have started carrying a little notebook and I jot down what I eat in the day making sure I stay within my 1250-1400 daily intake.  I generally follow my body now. If I'm still hungry or craving something I figure it's for a reason and I will eat it (in moderation) and work it into my calories for the day.

Now I'm going to go back and read a little more.....

booster: They have 100 calorie packs for ice cream?!? I thought it was just the oreo and what not; I'm not much of a fan of those cookies. If they have ice cream calorie packs I'm so buying. With the other stuff it all relies on me measuring what I eat 'cause most of what I eat comes from my mom's cooking. She cooks out of recipe books and food network so it's not too bad I could mostly figure out how many calories it is. Thanks booster and good luck to you too!

I have gotten some 100 calorie ice cream cups.  They are actually chocolate or vanilla frozen mousse cups and they are quite good.  I also like the skinny cow fudge pops (50 cals each) and the skinny cow ice cream sandwiches (140 cals each).

Hi! tamleech!!! LaughingLaughingLaughing

I visited your profile today 'cause I was missing you and scenicskye, etc. I was glad to see your ticker looked good! And that you were still logging in the site-- Really Been missing you!!!! Laughing

Wooo Hooo!!! Really glad you're back!!! CoolCoolCool

Thanks 2BB, I have to agree with you that I can't just focus on the scale anymore for progress but I have to look at the big picture. The scale is the only thing in my big picture that is not moving. I feel a lot better about it now! I just got back from Turbo Kickboxing class--it was fast and furious--could I keep up? No, but i did give it a really good effort and made sure I was moving the whole time! I feel good about what I did. Tomorrow I am going to step aerobics which I have never done before and going to see if I like it. I'm not coordinated so sometimes these exercise classes get tricky--tricky tricky! I feel good, I look good, I'm doing good gang--sorry for the downer early--I guess we all have those once in a while. Thanks for the support!

Exercise: 1 hour of Turbo Kickboxing Class

Breakfast: 3/4 cup of low sugar cereal

WEEKLY WEIGH-IN REPORT (20% LOST)

With this morning's weigh-in, I can now say that I have officially lost one-fifth of me ... twenty percent (20%) of my starting weight! WOO HOO FOR 20%!!! (It's the equivalent of three large plastic tubs of clumping kitty litter!)

Well, two weeks into 2008 and my weight loss is on track, albeit moving a bit more slowly than I had anticipated. Of course, as I lose weight my calorie needs decrease, so my daily calorie deficit decreases as well -- all part of getting healthier, I suppose! And, for the first two weeks of January I have MET my 90-minutes-per-week of cardio (treadmill) ... in fact I have gone a bit over for this week (yay!) And, as of the first week of February, that exercise goal will increase. Even though my weight loss has been slowing, my healthy eating habits are right on track because I'm learning to allow myself to feel discouraged WITHOUT that resulting in over-eating or falling off the wagon. (I just complain, whine, and rant a bit more!)

STARTING WEIGHT: 369

CURRENT WEIGHT: 295.8

WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: 2.2

WEIGHT LOST TO DATE: 73.8 pounds

PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST (of starting weight): 20%

AVERAGE WEEKLY WEIGHT LOSS: 3.5 pounds

WEEKS OF DIETING: 21 weeks

SPECIAL COMMENTS: My weight loss is definitely slowing down

NEXT GOAL: 294 = 75 pounds lost

=^..^= MOLLY

*doing the happy dance for Molly and sending skinny thought for those 1.8 lbs to run away scared*

I like to think of weight loss in terms of people.  For instance... I have lost nearly 30lbs, once I reach that 30 (2 more to go) I will have officially lost my 2 yr old son... (don't I wish sometimes!!!Wink).  You, Molly, have lost a 9 yr old child... How wonderful!!  lol Laughing

Thanks for the fun welcome back 2BB... I always LOVE your messages because they are so full of "expression"!!  hehehe So FUN to read and make me smile... BIG!

Hi tamleech! I missed you! I am glad to hear that things are going good for you and your diet.

On your last comment, my 12 yr old still weighs only 68.6.....lol. So Molly has already lost her, so why is she still here???

So glad to hear from you again...keep in touch.

Deficit's kind of large, so if I feel like I need more, I'll drink a cup of 1% milk before going to bed. That would put me at 1,600 calories and my deficit at 700. So we'll see.....

I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and a few arm weights and situps.
Hi Friends -- SO came back home from Detroit, and I decided the computer wasn't a priority last night.  I picked up Thai food (lots of veggies and lean meats), plus brown rice, and we had a nice dinner and catch-up (we like that talking stuff too, Forks), then watched a neat program about words on the National Geographic channel.  How people communicate, the words we pick up, what sticks around ("rat race") and what goes away ("bling"), for example. A good, restful night.

Welcome back Tamleech, glad you're back.

HB - you are very smart and articulate for someone your age. I know you will figure out what works for you. It is the JOURNEY, not the DESTINATION that's important. It sounds like your coach really believes in you. Maybe you can talk to him for help with your nutrition plan. I think you should stop fasting, that's an easy one to avoid over-eating. In fact your metabolism works more efficiently when you DO eat! It breaks my heart a little that it is such a worry for you. I have been on diets on and off since I was 12 years old, and it is burdensome. Your beauty comes from within. If you can celebrate that it will be reflected on the outside. It took me almost 30 years to recognize this. I send you healing white light and wish contentment and peace to you figuring this out.

Boots, your workouts are messing up your scale numbers but it will even itself out. Take a scale hiatus for a couple weeks. Keep doing your measurements though, you will start seeing a good difference. And we are all different, CC just gives us tools for the "average" person and certainly no one here is average. Sure we'd love to lose 3 pounds a week, but it's just NOT going to happen for everyone. Also, many of us around here in G4G don't have huge amounts of weight to lose. Heavier people have more to lose, so often they lose more initially. So you can't really compare apples to apples. For me, if I don't exercise, I can easily gain 3-4 pounds a month. I was figuring that out today. I need to burn at least 5000 calories a month from exercise to get my body to maintain weight (of course I'm 45, too, so metabolism, and aging play a part as well.) So that's about 162 calories to burn a day. Then to lose, I have to add-in from there.

2BB -- bless you for your smart brain and great attitude. Your willingness to do the research and share with all of us is amazing.

Molly -- congrats on the good work. Now its time to start thinking "what next" post-goal, changing your thinking to maintenance is a big deal to get ready for. You can never go back, only forward. We have confidence you'll make this lifestyle "stick!"

2 for one folks, never said brevity was my strong suit!

Aaaah, today...weather predicted to be 46 degrees so a big bike tour was planned. We hit the road about 8 am, ambient temp 29 degrees. Brrr! SO said at least 3 times, "can't we just go to the bar on the corner?" Ha! Lots of fog to start out, we were happy for many layers, long-fingered gloves, and neoprene booties. Rode from my house, down along the river in Kentucky, for about 52 miles total, at 15.1 mph. Nice group, great to be outside. This ride burned about 3,000 calories, not uncommon! So I'm eating like a queen today. Low fat scone for brekkie, eggplant sandwich with goat cheese, roasted red pepper, raw spinach, and sourdough baguette with pea pod and black sesame seeds on the side. Supper, SO is making spaghetti (whole wheat) with turkey meatballs, salad, and bread which I'll dip in a teaspoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar. Then some clemetines for dessert. Mmmmm. I just love to eat! So my deficit is a bit huge today. We'll see what results, and I may just have to eat 2500 calories on the day of my next big multi-hour workout. We may do a few more little snacks this evening, and tomorrow I'll eat up to maintenance so as not to throw things off too much. Might have to try one of those sneaky weigh-ins Molly's so fond of on Monday. Tomorrow's workout is 2 miles of jogging, and 20 minutes of core, so not a big deal.

Excellent, fun day though. Even SO had fun once his toes thawed out. Looking forward to another next weekend if the weather stays temperate. Oh yeah, the wedding dress is what I hoped for! I'll try to post a photo if I can figger it out (don't really know how to do that...)

Wow rivergrrrl! Awesome job! I was just reading some stuff from my favorite tourist today, Joe Kurmaskie. If you haven't read his stuff I highly suggest it! You will really relate to much of his stories, and his encounters have been nothing short of amazing on his trips.

Well, everone, I am writing to ask for your good luck, wishes and prayers. I signed up to run the Phoenix Rock n Roll Half marathon. I am very nervous. Little history for ya...

On January 9th, 2005 I ran my first marathon at the same event in PHX. I finished in 3:44, four minutes from Boston qualifying time. In September of 2005 I ran the Montana marathon, a Boston qualifier, in 3:29:59 (my goal was 3:30 haha!). That was ten minutes faster than what I needed to qualify.

On April 15th 2006 I stood in the 20th corral at Boston, said my pre-race prayer as I have always done (and still do). I ran 23 miles of Boston at a record pace, and then something went very wrong. I ended up with a fracture in ym femur that required surgery.

So now I don't run very well, and have a lot of trouble with pain and cramping. It has really been a death to me that I have mourned, but I am trying to regain my running ability. I signed up for this race because I was running 10k's and 5k's without much pain, and in good times, too. Unfortunately, I have had a lot of increasing pain over the last month, and I think I may end up walking much of tomorrow's race.

I am asking for prayers fro me to have fun, even if I have to walk, and not to allow bitterness and sadness to ruin a really neat event. I am lucky to be where I am, even though I am sad that I am not the runner I used to be. So thanks for reading this and sorry the post was so long!

Thanks tons! Good luck to me! Way to go God! :)

rivergrrl: Thanks so much you inspire me a lot. "Beauty comes from within" I know that's true; I guess sometimes I'm a bit over critical but you're right the journey is important and I have to make this journey right in order to succeed. It's going to take me a little time but I'll get the hang of it. To be honest I don't want to have to ask my coach about my nutrition plan only 'cause sometimes he can be a bit obnoxious and sometimes doesn't understand but he is a caring person just sometimes gets mean. I want to hear more of your thoughts of health/ living considering you've been doing this since you were 12 you're probably like a guru on this or something; your bike ride sounds awesome.

erinlf: OMG you're a runner? So am I! Wow when did you start running? How do you last a marathon of running; don't you get bored or anything? How did you train/ how do you train? Was the femur the only injury you had to get surgery for? This is my first year of high school where I'm a training runner (and 1st of actual sport). I had sort of a hip injury and had to opt out of road runs to run a mile and exercise using the foam roll or whatever. Good luck on your half marathon; if you've done a marathon before you know you could do this! Walk/run it's half a marathon. My coach used to run marathons all the time and then at age around 50 had to get cartilage replaced for his knee and was in crutches for 2 years and so now he does elliptical and all and he's expected to be able to start running this February! Exciting!

Oh my gosh... I didn't know baked italian bread with olive oil could cost so many calories; it was like 300 for like 100g or something. Then I had some panera bread and all and the whole day I've been snacking on pumpkin and banana cream pie and I had half a cookie and a bite of chocolate. I had like an apple and orange and date and some home made bean soup.  My mom made some chicken like 10 minutes ago and she called me to eat and I told her no. In a sense I sort of feel good for doing that; like a little victory. Maybe the first goal is to just not let my mom tell me what to eat and rather I eat what I want.

Pie pie pie... that's basically my main dessert or something the past week and we still have tons of it; I'm like the only one eating it.

I consumed like 1,880 cal today... oh well I didn't expect the garlic bread and bean soup to be so much calories.  I see that I seem to consume more fat then protein and I think that's the pitfall of all this. I have the alli cookbook but non of the main ingredients to bake the low fat tasty blue berry muffins or something like that.

Someone once said Volumetrics or something where it's like taking one cookie and like substituting that for food with more grams for the same calories or something like that? I would love to buy a book like that or something 'cause that would be awesome.

I'm so obsessed with this whole weight loss deal. I was like talking to myself today and I was all like "maybe if I didn't think about avoiding food then maybe I wouldn't be thinking of having it in the first place"

I seriously should get back to homework and study. Thanks everyone for the support and inspiration.

1 step for man, 1 giant leap for mankind.

p.s. tamleech: Is skinny cow a brand name for healthy ice cream and dairy products or something? I never heard of them before. Omg now I really want to buy the 100 cal ice cream cups! Thanks booster and tamleech!

Skinny cow makes reduced fat and cal dairy products (chocolate milk and different kinds of ice cream stuff).  It's really very yummy and doesn't taste like your eating "diety" food.  I get those days where I just have to have some ice cream and I usually reach for one of those ice cream sandwiches.  They come in vanilla, chocolate or MINT..(my fave)
