MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more) mollymouser

RANTING BURNS CALORIES!

This is an open, ongoing, support-encourage-motivational-RANTING thread. Feel free to skip to the end, or spend days reading through all of this ...

* * *

I have decided that "Diet" is a 4-letter word.

I find myself muttering and uttering the word around my house these days with loathing and vehemence previously reserved only for comments directed toward liberal politicians. In fact, I seem to be talking to myself a lot more these days .... sort of a running, sarcastic commentary on all the foods I can't eat, or on various other related topics. I wonder if there is a link between calorie-deprivation and Tourettes Syndrome? Grrrrrrrrr.....

I am now on Day 8 of the dreaded D-word. This is already the longest period of time that I have ever successfully remained on a diet. And I seem to be growing grouchier and feistier each day..... at least when I am alone and no one is around to hear my running rants. (My wonderful DH has heard some of my more memorable rants on the subject of broccolli and reports that I am hysterically funny when I am hungry!) I am counting carbs. I am counting calories. I am counting fat grams. Sheesh ... now my math anxiety is about to kick-in!

Mini Rant #1 .... what masochist decided that the serving size of cereal was anything less than 2 cups? Have you ever measured out 2/3 a cup of cereal? Or even a full cup? And placed it in a bowl? Those few little flakes and pieces just sit forlornly at the bottom of the bowl, shivering and lonely, even when we dribble on a few meager droplets of skim milk! Sheesh. Well, I can tell you that there is simply no way that my oversized body is going to be happy with that tiny amount of cereal ... so I have been eating TWO servings for breakfast. SIGH. And while the side of the box says that I can supplement the cereal with some fruit, they probably don't mean eat 45 cherries with your cereal -- much less 1/2 a watermelon, huh?

Mini Rant #2 .... Things NOT to say to someone who has told you that they have just started on a diet:

1.Good, you sure needed it.
2. It's about time.
3. Really? It doesn't look like it.
4. Again? Haven't we heard this before?
5. Gosh, how much weight do you need to lose?
6. What do you weigh? I've always wondered.
7. I never need to diet, I have a fast metabolism.
8. Really? I can eat all I want and never gain weight.
9. Is THAT why you are so grouchy?
10. I sure hope you plan to exercise a lot more.

AAAUGGH! All of these responses are just the thing to make me even grouchier .... so just smile and say something encouraging and supportive, ok? I will let you know how it is going.

OK, it's 3pm and we're braving "Black Friday" traffic to go buy cat food at PetsMart and hardboiled eggs at Smart n' Final.

OK my question is are you only eating the 2/3 cup of cereal?
#843 relivita Nov 24 2007 12:26

oh my, that took about 3 days of reading to catch up on this thread.  And it certainly makes a girl crave veggies, which is fantastic. And craving kittens and supportive DH's!

And about the belt part of certain tuxes, I'm curious if they fixed cumin, think it had the same problem near the start of this thread.

Heck no! Whole people get a whole cup of cereal, 2/3rds people get 2/3rds a cup! I eat one cup of Kashi Go Loean (140 calories) plus 1/2 cup of vanilla unsweetened Almond Breeze (20 calories) .... plus a Thomas' light multigrain english muffin (100 calories) and two tablespoons of roasted red pepper hummus (32 calories) for a fiber-licious, healthy, less than 300 calorie breakfast!

WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE

Sometimes, the number on the scale is just a big, sparkly gemstone that makes me smile! This is such a day! I have just completed 14 weeks of dieting and the results are in ...54.6 pounds lost (so far) in just 14 weeks (average weekly loss: 3.9 pounds.) I was pretty happy with the 2.8 pounds lost for this week considering I have PMS and it was Thanksgiving!

DATE.............WEIGHT...........TOTAL LOSS

2007-08-31 ... 362.50 ... 1 WEEK (-6.5)

2007-08-22 ... 369.00 ... STARTING WEIGHT

Even though I am very consistent with what and when I am eating, my weight loss sure jumps around all over the place, doesn't it? I've discovered that I really retain a lot of water about 7 days before it's my TOM, then I get extra hungry for about 4 days before my TOM, followed by weird cravings for the first 3 days! Oh well ... I've just decided to give myself some grace and an extra 230-300 calories or so on those days, if needed, knowing that sometimes my body knows best what I need -- and if it wants more protein and peanut butter, it can have it! And my weight loss is definitely slowing down to a more "normal" 2 pounds or so a week ... as I have been losing weight and leaving the 300s behind. I am still filled with excited anticipation as I watch the ever-elusive 200s get closer and closer!

My wonderful DH bought me a great pink t-shirt last night that I wanted ... it reads "BUY ME SOMETHING SPARKLY!" (And the t-shirt itself was pretty sparkly!) Since he's been so supportive and encouraging for my weight loss adventure (buying treadmills, bikes, workout shoes, organic foods, fridges-full of veggies, even ostrich!) ... I can really say that (in part) he bought me the "sparkly gemstone" that was today's weigh-in number! YAY!

Who says you can't eat healthy and lose weight during the holidays?

The ONLY people who gain weight during this season are UNDER-Shopping!

OK, I admit to being a little behind on reading the rants, but are y'all telling me that ****-mer-bund is getting caught up in the profanithy filter? That is really strange.

Well, I am glad to hear you don't just eat a2/3 cup cereal. I have found that even my higher end cereals, I make a mix it is about 275 calories not including milk, still leave enough room in the day to eat enough.  My problem has been staying on it. I can have anywhere between 1750 and 2000 calories depending on my work out schedule. I am quite physically active.  I know that when I make the right choices there is plenty of food and I am not really even hungry!  Your weight chart here is inspiring.  I am focusing on the New Year and really finally doing this for real.
#852 pattikins Nov 25 2007 11:46

I always have to measure my cereal because if I didn't I would eat way more than I intended to!

I try to get cereals that are fiber rich but not too dense so I give myself more bites of cereal.  Gotta fool ourselves whatever way necessary, right? Plus, I usually add some fruit to make it oh so tasty.

A SNOWMAN SORT OF SUNDAY

Today felt like a snowman sort of Sunday -- not bcause we have snow (heck, it supposed to be nearly 70 here tomorrow), but because we finished decorating for Winter out front and have festive snowmen all over -- plus we have gorgeous cobalt blue LED lights and a sparkling white lit-up snowflake in our living room window. It all looks very home-y and cozy and wintery.

We had lunch with some friends after church today and went to Boston Market ... yum! I had the roast turkey, a small side of chicken noodle soup, and the green beans ... for about 330 calories. (I am not counting the tiny nibble of Ron's chocolate brownie!) I was surprised that they were as busy as they were ... I would have thought that people were all turkeyed out ... but maybe people had chicken or meatloaf instead of turkey? (Don't look at me, I had yellowfin sashimi ceviche for Thanksgiving!) I do like Boston Market because they have a number of diet-friendly options on their menu -- and my wonderful DH always seems to enjoy eating both HIS cornbread as well as mine! Afterwards we ran by Cost Plus World Market to pick up some caviar, since they have the best priced we've seen. (Caviar, by the way, is also very diet-friendly!)

Tonight's dinner was delightful: Tofu shirataki fettucini noodles in a spicy sicilian pasta sauce with grilled chicken ... and a nice large salad of cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes, plus a couple of Thomas' light multigrain english muffins -- toasted (and 8 cloves of roasted garlic!) Nine servings of veggies for dinner, plus one for lunch ... not too shappy for today, huh? My calories through dinner are 1325 for the day ... leaving me 175ish or so for snacks later. (Assuming my mouth is up for it after the uber-spicy pasta sauce and chicken!)

Hope everyone had a nice weekend and is looking forward to an awesome week!

Rant: Four day Holiday weekends!!! Too many days out of my normal routine, making me far to susceptible to falling (or literally Jumping!) off the wagon!!

Honestly, I'm grateful to back to work!

This is terrible - I have nothing to rant about!  All is wonderful in my world currently and I just can't get worked up about anything ;-)  Annoying, right?!

Hello all :-)

New experience for the day - ostrich!  I'm cooking a stir-fry later, so I'll let you know what I think!  Thanks for the inspiration Molly.

And yes, I'm still annoyingly cheerful!

Here's a rant for me -

It takes lots of planning, thinking, and self-control for me to lose weight.  It's always been that way.  I make specific good choices, count everything, etc.  My DH, on the other hand, can simply eat a few less chips at night and lose almost as much as I do!  And then he tells me!!! (He could stand to lose 25# v. about 90 more for me)

Now, don't get me wrong, he's a great guy, very supportive, and never has made me feel lousy for being overweight, so I shouldn't complain.

BUT -- I had to actually tell him the other day that when I crow about some milestone in my weight loss, his first response should not be, "That's great - I lost ____!"

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!
