Welcome to the new over 100 to lose club! obsidyan
  Jul 27 2006 18:12
Howdy guys and gals!  I'm taking over this club, not because i think i have all the answers (i so know i don't) but because i'm super pumped up right now and motivated to help those people out there who have a lot of weight to lose.  we need a place that's more than a "can i join" place.. we need a place to talk about issues related to being this overweight..

Who here needs to lose over 100 pounds? Who needs to lose over 150 pounds? Or more?

I did! I did! And yes.. i did!

A small amount of background on me for those of you who don't know: i am a binge eater. I have had a problem with emotional eating, hidden eating, over eating, eating with a hang nail, eating because i have split ends.. you name it i stuffed my emotions down with the greasiest, nastiest food i could find!

Why did i do that (you might ask)? Because of many many different reasons.. frankly i think it was because this is how i was taught from a young age, this is how we handle stress and emotions. I learned that it's not proper to talk about your feelings.. or god forbid, express your emotions! You have to shove them down with a piece of cake and a smile!

Anyway.. onto the reason for this post.

If you are out there and need to lose a lot of weight.. just like i've got to.. i think we need to have a place where we can discuss these issues with each other and try and work through them together. Because, let's face it, people who are morbidly obese (yes.. i hate that word too) have uniquely different issues to work through and deal with than the average person.

Losing weight, for people who have this much to lose, have to deal with so much more than the formulas to figure out how much to eat.. and exercising. It's more complex than that. We have to deal with years and years of poor eating habits that have to be unlearned, we have to deal with the emotional torment of just being this size, we have to deal with the harsh looks and comments from strangers or from loved ones, we have to deal with our emotions for the first time in our life because we aren't shoving them down our throats anymore..

this is the hardest thing ANYONE has to deal with.. but, from my experience, things are different for us bigguns. :)

also, for those of you who don't know me very well.. (because i've kinda been in hiding and not posting much and there are so many new people out there) i started out in january weighing 324 pounds. I now weigh 232.5.. i have lost 91.5 pounds so far. I am not telling you guys this to get kudos.. i got those yesterday. I'm telling you guys this because i want anyone out there who is struggling with knowing they have, what seems to be, an insurmountable amount of weight to lose, that there is hope.. it IS possible.. you CAN do it.. but it's hard.. and you will hurt.. i know this because i've been there.. i've done it.. and i'm still dealing with it.

so.. come on in and share your stories.. i want to hear them and i want us to support each other until we are all at our goal weight!

rtd, why do you have to cut all carbs? Diabetes? I'm not an expert but I believe there are 'good carbs' even as a diabetic.

Almost any food can be replaced by something healthier, even bread.

Hello! I just started on june 28th...i was doing weight watchers and counting "points" and i needed to get the nutrional value of something and i came across this website YAAAAY!!!  Now i'm following the CC plan and i can't believe how motivating the forums are...i started at 300lbs on the 28th and now i'm already down to 287...for the first 20 somthing days i didn't exercise because i wanted to make sure i could follow the calorie intake first and it was surprisingly easy...i do 1500 calories a day and drink atleast 1 gallen of water and take a vitamin...today was my first exercise day...i walked for an hour and it was great...i even ran a little...i don't think i've ran in years...it was awesome. I've never felt so in control of ANYTHING...i love knowing exactly what i eat.  But i have about 142lbs to lose yet...and i'm excited about the journey!  CONGRATULATIONS to all you folks!!  Its frickin' awesome  to be around so many successful people~

I don't have diabetes I have PCOS/insulin resistance and yes I know there are healthy carbs I have read just about every book out there (or at least the ones at the local library) on low carb/low GI diets, its just hard to give up those things that you have become accustom to, its like having to give up your best friends of 20+ years (or how ever long), I know its not impossiable its just hard and expensive (today was grocery day lol). also I don't know if you have ever tried some of the low carb stuff out there (especially the breads) but alot of it tastes like ....yuck LOL I was going to say cardboard but I think that would actually taste better that these low carb wrap things I bought today LOL I guess when it comes to bread and wraps I will budget a few extra carbs for that and stick to whole wheat/whole grain. :) have a good day everyone.

Hm, I believe I have low-carb wraps, I find them fairly tasty. I suppose it all depends on the brands as well. It takes time, but you'll get handy with the shopping. I know I got handier with it.

The key is to really compare, it takes forever in the beginning, but once you find the brands you like, it goes a lot faster. I found that some 'diet' food or 'low-carb' food were twice as expensive and differed almost none from the original. What a joke. Manufacturers really try to abuse the new health wave going through the country.

On the other hand, there's some really good things out there as well. As said, it takes time, but you'll learn :)

Another thing to watch....sometimes the diet version is not as healthy as the full flavor! Believe it or not, in order to make up the flavor, sometimes the sugar or salt doesn't make it worth the change!
#807 rtd13440 Jul 17 2007 04:21
hope everyone is doing well, haven't had much time to dedicate to reading and posting, with new doctor and appts and test ect...ect..lol they sure do keep you busy, but I lost 5lbs this week alone so I guess being that busy isn't that bad of a thing ;) well best wishes to all. oh and as far as the carb and bread thing go I found a solotion, I found these crackers that are whole grain (cant think of the name of them right now) a serving of them is 4 and you can have like 3 servings before you even match the carbs in 1 slice of bread, they are real good with turkey, cheese, and a little mustard.

I?m pretty new to CC and to forums like this in general, so please bear with me.

I currently weigh 270, down from 280 so to reach my acceptable goal (not my perfect weight---but the one I can happily live with) I have 110 pounds to lose. I started counting my calories a little less than a month ago. I?ve lost weight before, thirty pounds to be exact and I put every one of them back on and some extra after I was put on a medication for PMS?horrible, horrible experience.

I don?t know if your open to trying something new or not, but Wal-Mart carries something called Light Flat Out Wraps, typically they are in front of the Deli at my store, they?re good sized, 6 per package at $2.00 to $2.24, whole grain, 90 calories, 16 Carbs, 6-net carbs, and they work for wraps, tacos or as the base for a veggie pizza. They come in several flavors, Italian, Original and another---I buy original. Personally I think they?re great, no funny taste like a lot of the low carb wraps. I tried some of those and ended up throwing them away. I guess it depends on the brand, and the taste buds involved but these are wonderful for me.

Those flatout breads/wraps are great! I love the tomatoe/basil ones! I am a diabetic controling by diet alone, so I only eat 1/2 of a wrap at a serving, but find that to be more than enough because they are so big.

I agree these are great! Good tip!

I would love to join this group.  I have about 200 lbs to lose and I know it is going to be tough.  Obsidyan --i know you didn't want kudos but you deserve it.  How have you done it?  I know it isn't a quick fix--but your rate of weight loss is great and inspiring.  With 3 young girls it is hard to stay on track so I hope staying in touch with others will help me do it.

I would like to join all of you.  I signed up for CC a few weeks ago, but have been counting calories and exercising since January.  I started at 312lbs and as of today am down to 253.2lbs.  I have a three year old son and don't want to be the "fat" mom at all of our play dates and ball games.  This sight has been very inspirational for me.  I don't post often, but take time every few days to read some posts.  It just feels so good to know I'm not doing this alone, which is how I feel some days.

I've been apart of cc for about 2 weeks or so and this looks like a great way to stay focused.  I'm 24 years old 5'10" and 272 lbs ( down from 293) I got tired of being this young and not able to keep up with my 2 year old daughter.  I've got 92lbs. to go so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks     ~C

Hey there Cosan, I'm 5'11", I was 294lbs and now I'm 247 or so (haven't weighed in a while). I too am only 24 and felt the same sentiment. I'm too young to be like this.. we're suposed to be active and having fun and I was getting so painful I felt like a little old lady.

I've been at it since February, through CC, I've nearly lost 50lbs! You definately made a great choice of 'weapon' against the buldge.

Hi there everyone. I'd love to join all of you!

I'm pretty young, but I need to lose 100+. My weight peaked in June of this year, I weighed in at 270. I have managed to get down to 256lbs on my own, but needed help. My family doc referred me to a bariactric doc and the bariactric doc referred me to this site to help with calorie counting. Having this online is awesome!

Anyway, here's my weight & goals:

Highest weight: 270

Current weight: 256

Short-term goal: 225

Long-term goal: 175

Ultimate goal: 140 or less

Hope to update you soon with good news!

started in April 2006 at 327  lost down to 251 but have back slide up to 271.  But I am back at it.  Gotta love this sight.  I teach school and we started a fitness club there to try and encourage each other.  I think it is going to be a good thing.  We are all using this site I think.   good luck to you all!~~
