Weight loss group for breastfeeding moms!

Quote  |  Reply

I think that us moms who breastfeed just cannot compare ourselves to everyone else - except myabe those that are pregnant!

i try to focus on others and there calories and goals but mine just dont compare-- therefor i think we need our own weigh in group!!

im a mom to a 2 yr old and a five month old

i am 5'4 - 24 years old

starting weight-185 back from january

current -161.4

goal -135

i weigh in on tuesdays- but heck as long as we post  are weights on whichever day we can support one another!

i think this will be fun- we can compare our excerise rather then to peep who workout vigorously since we have to keep our milk supply too!

What's your stats??

I'm 156!! yeah!!!! my walkings are really paying off!

I'll try the tea and report later next week....although my milk is still in good supply, but it never hurts to help it just in case...BTW I'm not counting calories, but just trusting the scale and some common sense when choosing my food: lost of veggies, fruits, 1% milk (some people says milk help you loose weight...not sure?), whole grains and all healthy stuff...good luck ladies...keep it going!

I'm in the military, so I feel your frustration about working full time and taking care of your child. Thankfully, I'm required to work out 3xs a week for up to 90 minutes a session, but my work schedule lets me have about 20-30 minutes.

To fit in some more exercies into your schedule, try bike riding, taking the stairs, parking farther away in the parking lot, or walking around the office more. Also, you can do chair dips, or walking squats when ever you have the chance. Pile squats are good for the inner thigh. Look up how to do them at Shape.com. There are some really fun workout tapes too. You can do them with your kids, and make it a fun activity. One of them is Mambo Mamas. It's fun, and you get to dance with your babies!

Are you still taking your vitamins? That could also be a reason as to why you are so tired.

I stopped taking my vitamins there for awhile and i wonder if that did contribute to my lack of energy! Well that and here in muggy kansas the heat index has been around 100 the past week and being in a camper the ac barely cools it down! I havent tried working out bc it is so hot in here and out there!!!

hopefully it cools down next week- then i best kick it back into gear!!Gosh its already thurs- im such a bum! :(

Hi all.  Glad to have found this group of calorie counters.  I am nursing my 6th child and at 44yo I found that for the first time the weight is not budging and I am watching my calories carefully.  My nursling is 18 months old and still nursing a LOT.  My stats:

5'1" currently at 141 down from a high of 177 the week before baby was born.

Goal weight 115 then decide if I want to try for another 10

Dh and I will celebrate 23 years of marriage on July 26 and we have 6 children

dd 22 and just married in May

ds 20yo (in Aug)

dd 16yo (in June)

ds 13.5yo

ds 6.5yo

dd 18 months

I just started counting calories at the begining of July when I realized that the weight was just not coming off like it had done with the other kids.  Your metabolism really does slow down when you are older.  *Sigh*

Lakemom,

wow 6 babies u r truly a supermom!! U r even in extended breastfeeding, wow u r amazing! U have dropped alot already so it is going to take time- im sure your metab has slowed but keep up the counting bc it does truly work.

how many cals are u eating currently?  Are u exercising?

and congrats also on your 23 yr marriage that is fantastic!

Hello ladies!

I convinced the hubby to watch the kids for 30 minutes on Monday, Wednesday & Friday nights so I can start the couch to 5k challenge!  I've been steadily losing since I joined but ever since the baby I just feel so WEAK!  Just doing chores around the house and the weekly grocery marathon are enough to whoop my butt!  LOL

So, I thought I'd better get out and start doing something to make me feel better.  I'm starting next week with a 30 minute brisk walk for 3 days and then I'll be starting week 1 day 1 of c25k on Monday August 4th!  So excited!  My MIL is taking me out to the sports authority today to get me the right pair of running shoes and a heavy duty sports bra (currently a D CUP - Eek!).

I've NEVER been able to run because I always try to start out too strong and end up getting discouraged and giving up, so I think this program will be just what the doctor ordered!  By the end of October I plan to be running 3 miles in 30 minutes 3 days a week.  Wish me luck!

Oh, and if anyone wants to join me I'd LOVE to have a buddy!  Here's the program:  http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.s html

Thanks.  My kids are wonderful and if the body and the finances would have permitted we'd probably have a couple of more. LOL

Right now I am eating 1,800-2,000 calories per day depending on how much exercise I get per day.  That level of eating will net me a 300-700 calorie defcit per day.  On really active day, like when we go on bike rides in addition to my daily work out or when we go swimming etc I can eat as much as 2,500.  Being a stay-at-home Mom gives me a huge advantage in the activity department.  Just keeping after the little one and the 6yo keep me pretty active.  I also find that if I have more than a 700 cal deficit on any given day, the next day I'm hungry alllllll day.  So, when I sit down to nurse the baby so sleep, I check my daily totals and see where I'm at.  If the deficit is too high I have a nutritious bedtime snack.

With the right man, 23 years goes by in a flash!  It seems like just yesterday we were married.

Hello

I haven't read all the posts but came here looking for advice on losing weight while breastfeeding.  I am nursing my 1 month old dd and have five others (ds 9, ds 8, dd 6, ds 4, dd 2) but have never tried to seriously lose weight after any of them.

I am 29 (30 next month) & 5'2"

Was 180lbs when she was born on 6.19.08

Current - 153lbs

Goal - 125lbs

Forgot to add I've been trying to stay around 2,000 calories and have been running/walking for 30 minutes (2 miles) every day that I can.  I used to consume about a billion calories a day (LOL) and eat a king size bag of m&m's each night before bed so it's taken some major adjusting.  Now at night I settle for a bag of light popcorn.

Hey everyone I'm new here and have been skimming over your past threads.

My name is Lisa and I'm a mom to two  boys one just turned 2 years old and the other is almost 9 months.  Breastfeeding didn't work out with my first but  this time around it's been going great and I really enjoy it!

I'm 5'5" and currently approx. 220 lbs Cry down from 235 lbs during 2nd pregnancy (first preg I was 265 at delivery but back to pre-preg w/in 2 weeks, 2nd time within days since I only gained 15lbs and my baby was 6lbs 10 oz.).  I have no problem getting back down to prepregnancy weight I just plateau from there.

Goal weight right now is 170lbs and I'll adjust it from there.

I've been married to my hubby now for 3 years.

I'm aiming for approx. 2200 calories right now.  I was told by babyfit.com that I should consume between 2100 and 2400 calories right now.  I've been trying weight watchers but don't have time for meetings and even online has proven to be tough with 2 kids.

My internet connection at home is currently broken so not sure when I can check back.

~ Lisa

Just weighing in...

176 today, down 1 pound from last Monday!!!

8 pounds since July 1st!!!  Yea!!!

**waves** to kelly & bikinibound - Hello ladies & welcome!!

Hi there,

thought I'd join this group, I've got an 18month old boy who is still breastfeeding (as well as on solids) and 3 older children. Eldest boy is 6 on Saturday, my girl who is 4 and a half and another 3 year old boy. I breastfed them all until they were between 18 months and 2 years..... I've literally  been breastfeeding nonstop for the past 6 years, through pregnancies and all! I'm currently 138 lbs as I've put on about half a stone in the last few months, and so want to get back on top of my weight before it gets out of hand. I'm 5'5" and my goal is to get down to 126 lbs. It's good to see I'm not the only breastfeeding Mum wanting to lose weight. You get so many people saying you shouldn't lose weight when breastfeeding , but I think as long as  you're eating healthily and getting enough nutrition for yourself and your baby (not starving yourself) there's nothing wrong with it. Anyway, hope having other people to talk to on here will help me with my goal. Good luck to everyone!

Well ladies this is my kick my butt into gear week again- i didnt workout for like 2 weeks and now im trying something new. I was doing taebo about 30 min every other day but gosh i get so bored with workouts. i wish i didnt but i have to switch it up!

so after reading some things online i am trying "I want that body" by tamilee its got 6 15 min sections, and they work ya but im only doing 30 min a day- well so far i tend to not stick with it well :(. but i figure do abs a day buns a day and arms a day and maybe i will throw in my walking for fitness or taebo once in a while maybe i wont get bored!

any other mommies get absolutely bored and just stop working out- come on be honest- u seriously workout every day consistently??? how?? lol Tongue out

whats your ladies workouts??? how long u been sticking with it??

My Name is Anna, I'm 20 years old

5'4"

205 lbs (It's mostly belly, believe it or not, the rest is boob)

37 weeks pregnant (It's a Boy!)

prepregnancy I was 155, but my goal is 130.

I plan on breastfeeding at least for the first year (maybe up to 2 years) am a first time Mom, and would appreciate any advice on how to drop pounds safely but quickly(I'm active military and have 6 months to be able to pass fitness tests, I had trouble with running before)and am married, but since my husband is stationed overseas, I will be taking care of the baby by myself.

I have maintained an exercise regime thoughout my pregnancy and eat healthy foods, but still gained way more than the recommended amount!

my grandma told me she only gained 13 lbs! I try not to use my mom as an example, because she had 5 kids in a row and never lost the weight!

any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Hello all, my name is Dawn

I am 5'2 and am 240. I have 3 ds 10, 7, and 7 mo. I also have oneInnocent. I am currently breast feeding and am doing 1500 cal. but am finding it hard to even get that in. I have found that if i don't consume at least the 1500 i either gain or stay the same.

Anna, i just want to say thank you to you and your hubby for the work you do.  And all other military ppl on here. I am a brat and can appreciate how hard it is to be apart. i have also been a single mom up until 3 1/2 years ago.

Anyhow, does anyone think that I am not getting enough cal? I have lost 14 since 7-8-08, and it has yo-yoed from there. my goal is 125 but that can be adjusted. I know I have a long way to go. And my milk is good, even with the lower cal as i don't get to go work out with the kids and all. I get a walk in here and there but that is about it. My hubby is working out of state right now.

Any input would be great! Thanks

Dawn

I'm in the same boat as you! About the same height and delivery weight too.

My boy was born on 2-2-08, and I'm down to about 130 right now. Breastfeeding really helped the pound slip off. Also, my baby was 10lbs 3.3 oz, so that helped too Laughing

Those last few pounds are killer, but this site has helped alot.

I weighed myself on monday: 131, not too bad

I'd like to be down to 125 by Oct 11th, that's my older sister's wedding.

To Anna:

I'm also AD in the Air Force, so I can relate with the fitness woes. Hopefully your shop has a PT schedule, but if it doesn't, try to get work out time during the day, if you can. Also, take the stairs, park farther away, and walk as much as you can. I have to test next month, so hopefully I'll pass the damn thing!! Breast feeding as active duty is really difficult. The first 6 weeks I was able to do sole breastfeeding, but when I went to work I had to do bottles and formula. It's almost impossible to nurse the little one during the day. I was only going to go six months, because that's around when baby's start baby food.

Are you going to put the little darling in the CDC or have a home care provider? If you are going to do daycare, put your name on the list NOW!!. When I PCS'd to my new base I was 6 months pregnant, and I didn't get a spot for my son until 5 weeks after he was born!

My husband returned from Korea back in June, so I can also relate to the OSH (Over Seas Hubby) syndrome!

Hello!! I'm a proud mama of a 4.5 year old son and I have a baby boy who is 5 weeks old. I've not started really dieting or working out, as I want to get the go ahead from the doctor first. Unfortunately they couldn't get me in until 8 weeks PP, so I'm growing impatient!! :/ (I'm still gonna wait for the go ahead though, but don't see why i can't watch my calories ... i just won't be running anytime soon :(). I gained 70 pounds the first time around and lost it after 10 months to a year. This time I gained 30-33 lbs. My weight fluctuates.I'm hoping it comes off soon and fast.

Anyway, my name is Brandy. I'm 25 years old and 5'10"

I was about 147 before pregnancy.

Weighed about 180 when I had my son.

Now I weigh between 157-160. It's been there since 3 weeks PP :(

I'd like to get to my pre-prego weight at least and then I'll go from there. A long as I fit in my size 5s I don't really care!! Ha!

I don't understand how calories work at all. I am really worried about my milk drying up again. With my first son, I was still in the Air Force, and it dried up quickly because i was trying to diet to pass my PT test, was too shy to pump at work, etc. Anyway ... are you supposed to take your Burn Meter and add the 200-500 calories for breastfeeding?? That would be 3,000+ calories for me! Yikes! I try to get in 2000-2300 a day. It has been my goal since i was prego and now i've jus maintained my weight. What should I aim for?? Any help would be awwwwesome!! :) Also ... when is a good time to start dieting while EBFing? I, again, don't want to sacrifice my milk. I'd prefer to have to buy new jeans now than sacrifice lil man's milk!

Thanks fr any/all help!! I look forward to weighing in and losing weight with you girls!!

NUTRITION DATA WEBSITE QUESTION: http://www.nutritiondata.com/tools/calories-b urned

So, I gave worst case scenario of being lazy and it recomended 2486. So, to lose weight do I shoot for that?? Or less? It seems like a lot. I rarely get that many calories in and my weight isn't moving.  Help??

brandy to lose weight u need less then what they tell u but sometimes if u deduct to much u stall and if not enough then nothing. It really does suck bc u have to try diff numbers sometimes everyweek to fight that "perfect" number. i try to stick with 1700-1800 and throw in cheat days to throw my body off.

i am down from one 185 to 156.6 so i know it works but once again i have lost 5 lbs and my body stalls- but im throwin in 30 min workouts 5-6 times a week and hopefully that helps.

I just dont get how peep can barely get like 1700 cals in - i have such a hard time staying under. I guess i like food to much--- makes me nervous when it comes weaning time and trying to eat even fewer to lose weight, ugh i was hoping i could have lost all by nov 30- jd 1st bday but that wont work. i am aiming for like 142 by then now!!

keep going strong ladies-- i let temptation take hold of me one to many times a week- i think it is because i got comfy w/ how i am and now i need a kick start again!! anyone else do this?

Shauna,

Thanks fo the response. 1700 seems soo low, esp when it's recommending 1000+ more for me. The low caloric intake hasn't affected your milk at all? I'm thinking i shouldn't dip that low until I'm sure my milk supply is strong. Does any one know when it's safe to start dieting? My son is about 5.5 weeks old. I need to kick start my working out again. While I was prego, I worked out for an hour on my ellipitical everyday until the nineth month. I haven't been on it since May-ish!! The bugs are really bad outdoors, so walks are annoying. Anyway ... I think I need to incorperate working out in my life and slowly decreasing my calories ... do you think that's the safest way not to harm milk??

Thanks and good luck!! :)
