Girls in their 20's who want to lose about 100 pounds ennazus520
  Jan 28 2008 19:41
Hi, my name is Suzanne and I am 23 years old. I weigh 258.3 pounds(yikes) and would really like to get down to between 140 and 150. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there in their 20's who has about that much they want to lose. We could work together and stay motivated to reach our goals!!! Also, if there is anyone in their 20's who has lost that much and wants to share their success story, I would love to hear it! Thanks!

Hi to everyone! This is such a good forum like many of you I was a bit fed up with all the 130-ers thinking they needed to lose more... Um well I'm 26 5'6" SW260 CW253, this is the heaviest I have ever EVER been!  I use to stay around 218 then I lost weight and got down to my lightest of 177 then got married and shot up to this catastrophoric weight over the last two years.  Sigh losing it this time isn't as easy as it was last time for a lot of reasons.  I like reading everyone's stories and successes and everything very encouraging and all that well, toodles.

Hi ceeceem!

Welcome to our forum! I am currently at my heaviest weight also. Now I really have to commit to the change and get down to a happy weight. Congratulations on your recent marriage! Anyhow, keep in touch and we will see if we can hopefully all reach our goals!

What do you guys do to get motivated to work out?

when i'm not motivated, i force myself to go to the gym, because that's exactly the time i need to be in there. if i don't go when i don't feel like going, i'm gonna always feel like not going. so i curse and fight myself the entire way to the gym, but once i get there, and i'm working out, i feel better about the choice i've made. take last night, for example. i have three gyms in my vicinity between work and home. i was driving to one then i just turned the corner and said, i'll go later, i don't feel like it right now. as i was driving off, i turned back around and drove directly to the gym, b/c i knew if i didn't do it then, i wasn't gonna do it at all that day, or maybe the next day, either.

as to what to do once you get there, just pick what looks interesting. use a machine you've never tried before, or one that you liked in the past, or one that looks challenging. think of it like a fitness buffet. you can try a little of everything!

and as for the weight room, don't i know it! those guys will monopolize the whole thing, making stupid faces and ridiculous noises, using everything you want to get to. it is intimidating. to ease your way into it, try to find a time when it's not so crowded and start using it. then, when you're more comfortable, work your way into getting in there when it's more crowded. you don't want those muscleheads dictating your workout schedule forever, do you?

mlady-

You just buy it in the grocery store. A few dollars for a big bunch. What I do is snip about an inch and a half off of the ends (that's the hard, fiberous part that doesn't chew well) and then put them on a Greorge Foreman grill that has been well sprayed with nonstick spray (olive oil kind is good)

I also put some garlic powder on, a tiny bit of salt, and sometimes when I'm feeling crazy, I can't believe it's not butter spray. Let them grill for 5-10 minutes, and they are so good! It's also really really really good on an outside grill, but since I wasn't grilling anything else I didn't want to set the whole thing up. LOL ANd the Foreman is a great substitute!

This website details the nutritional value and gives some other information. (I feel like an asparagus spokes person. Think I stand a chance?)

Hope everyone else is having a good day!

Thanks feddiechick, but what I was really meant to ask was where you got your sausages. Wink  What brand are they, and what store did you pick them up at?  I'm already into asparagus; it's great!  I like to broil it with some shredded parmesan in the oven.  Mmmmm, tasty!

dalmalama- Good for you for stickin' to it!  If it weren't for my friends, I would have made up excuse after excuse to not get my butt off the couch.  I applaud anyone who has a gym membership (and uses it).  I have a problem with exercising alone, especially there!

elfkittie22- A little exercise does the body good. Smile I apologize if I came across sounding like a "know-it-all" before; I'm faaaar from it! If I could give you a tiny bit of advice about starting to up the exercise, don't push yourself. Man, my knees and legs are killing from Monday's 1000 cal burn (I think the 20 mins. of treadmill jogging is what did it.). I'm going to fore-go jogging until I am either closer to my goal weight or on some super cushy, shock absorbent surface. Frown

Oh no, you didn't seem like a know it all at all! ^_^ I'm just frustrated with myself that I don't exercise more. My roommate and I are both on this site, and I'm going to ask her if we can do tae bo maybe 4 nights a week. That's a really good workout!

LOL leave it to me to not read something completely and just start rambling. I got them at a SuperTarget, of all places. 80 calories a piece, and INCREDIBLY tasty. I don't remember which brand, since I only bought them the one time and all ready took out the trash, but I know they were organic, with spinich and feta, no casing, and made of chicken.

dalmalama - had a really rough day (see journal if interested...) and REALLY didn't feel like working out....but reading your post made me feel like going. I know there's some reason I love this site. Thanks!

Oh this is definately the place for me....

I'm 26, started at 300, want to get to around 150, I'm currently at 244, I'm also around 5'5".

For the most part the diet or rather eating comes fine, it's the excersize that lately I've been slipping at.

#89 dalmalama Jan 31 2008 20:26

you're totally welcome danibelle!!!

safantasia, you are totally my inspiration!!! i've been trying for a year to break the 50 lb-lost mark, but it always seems to allude me. i have renewed hope!

Hi everyone!  My name is Alana!I just joined today because I'd been using FitDay.com to keep track of my calories, but I was/am in dire need of a community... Most of my friends are guys who eat whatever they want and don't really understand my need to try to lose weight.  Then I got on here, and it seemed like it was all people trying to lose like 10-15 pounds, which wasn't helpful at all.  Thank goodness for you guys!  I'm 24 and I'm currently at 209, although when I started on Jan. 1 I was at 220.  So it's been a good month, but it's hard to stay motivated.  The eating and the excersizing aren't so hard for me; it's the drinking that gets me!  I'm all about the after work margarita, or the 4 beer happy hour, and since it's such a social thing for me, it's hard to cut out.  Especially with my friends doing the whole, "C'mon, one won't hurt!" thing.  I'd like to get down to my high school weight of 140, but so long as I can shop for clothes in a regular store, I don't suppose the scale really matters!

hi allydan!

you'll find great help on here. these ladies (and men) are very smart and have tons of great tips.

have fun!

#92 ceeceem Jan 31 2008 23:44

mlady- I adore my aussie husband he is very thoughtful and sweet which is a may-jah departure from the male aussie norm of being rough and tough and a man's man, of course he does have those moments (which male doesnt??)  I love australia but I definitely miss canada and my family and friends more than you can imagine!  Crazily enough I even miss winter with the snow and cold and everything associated with that miserable season.  Where is your husband from?  And yes the picture is from my wedding.

Thanks for the welcome ennazus520 absolutely brill idea starting up this forum!

Hi to everyone else.  Well I am off to the hot hot gym, plus 30 degree weather here plus humidity, gym only has fans no A/C, means you get to sweating quickCool

#93 danibelle414 Feb 01 2008 09:44
another snow day for me, so today will be a good day to get some major workout time in!
#94 dalmalama Feb 01 2008 13:46
Ooh, a snow day! boy, do i miss those! lucky!!
#95 ennazus520 Feb 01 2008 14:17
I miss snow days too. The weather here is miserable and icey but I am still at work. Oh well. At least I am not home sitting on my but watching tv! Yesterday was a bad day for me, as far as just having a bad day goes. But, I didn't emotional eat and I stuck to having only 1600 calories yesterday! Hooray! Reason to celebrate!
#96 ennazus520 Feb 01 2008 14:26
By the way....welcome allydan and safantasia! Safantasia, congratulations on losing 56 pounds already! I am sure you will be an inspiration to us all! allydan, good luck with cutting down on drinking! I know it can be hard, especially when it's a social activity.
#97 allydan Feb 01 2008 14:26
That IS reason to celebrate!  Good for you!
I wasn't quite so good last night... I went to the gym and worked my butt off, and ate the perfect number of calories, but ended up stressing over this guy and sharing a bottle of wine with my neighbor.  I think I've replaced stress eating with stress drinking, which might even be worse.  It's just that as I gained weight I got more and more awkward with men, so it's to the point that any little thing freaks me out completely.  Those of you with significant others are super lucky; it's tough to be single and uncomfortable with your body!

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

i could go on and on about that. i am just now trying to come to terms with this big ol' body, even before it becomes a small ol' body. it's tough, ESPECIALLY when it comes to relationships, trying to build them, stay in them. god, it's tough. a big part of it for me is this little nagging voice in the back of my head telling me he's not as into me as he would be if i were thin. i hate that voice. and then i'm getting older (duh, we all are!), but i'm approaching a milestone b-day that i'm just not mentally prepared for, b/c i still feel 18, you know? off-topic

back to the body thing: is it just me, or is it/has it been difficult to let guys touch you when you feel you're so heavy? it's really hard for me, b/c their hands there (wherever there is) just makes the existence of that fat real. it makes me face the fact that i don't have the dream body i wish i had.  tmi?

#99 fayny Feb 01 2008 14:46

Thanks everyone.  knew this was the place for me :) was getting discouraged since I recently started seeing where I had to go, instead of where I've come from, but think you've set me straight again.

allydan, know exactly what you mean how it's tough to be single and uncomfortable with your body, I admire all the girls that are big and love themselves as they are.

Weekends are the toughest for me, lack of schedule and all, so hope this one is a good one!  Though they also have some advantages, since everytime I want to cheat I tell myself "you can cheat, but cheat on saturday" and this has really helped me, since I didn't tell myseld no and by the time saturday rolls around I don't feel like cheating anymore, and if I do, I have that little piece of something that I really wanted, and continue one my regular diet.

Best of luck to you all over the weekend.

I totally get what you mean!  I manage to make myself look pretty okay in clothes, but I'm always terrified that the first time I make out with a guy, he's going to feel my tummy and be like "man, I thought that was just a baggy shirt!  Where'd all this come from?"
