for the measurements, i would give the actual advice followed by a cite to the site (hehe). anyone with dial up or a slower connection doesnt want to be clicking links all day and CC comes up fairly well on a slower connection.
How about something about Diet Pills, Garnet? Do they work?
ah yes, the diet pills, J has a whole slew of stuff about diet pills :)
Do they work? I dunno though, I imagine they do but barely or as a temporary fix. Aren't most of em practically speed? *snort* I don't wanna be stating my personal opinions though. Have to find some studies I guess, perhaps a pro/con make up your own mind kinda thing.
good point about the links/dial up :)
Ahh, feels like a community project now :)

J suggested a question about pms and cravings (got that link around here somewhere) and something about mood enhancing foods.. that's not quite right but.. *shrug* :)
You know, maybe an area of the FAQ's that are like "Controversial Topics" You could seperate each area into "Site", "Food", "Exercise"....
1. Diet Pills
do they work? Yes sometimes
are they safe? Depends
can i keep the weight off ? likely not
is it healthy? Depends. Most here say no, but... alternate view point....
personal choices?
2. EDs
whats with all these ed posts?
making me crazy what should i do?
how do i help?
how do i respond?
i find ed posts trigger... this response.. what should i do?
3. Personalities online, Nettiquette, and Feeling Comfortable in the Forums
you get the point.....

Or, at least, something about how you may crave different food, depending on the seasons and your emotions.
How about something about the emotions of dieting, Garnet? You know that dieting can turn into a real bad emotional trap for someone who doesn't believe they deserve to be thin, or are capable of dieting.

Cravings
- what do i do when i get em
- why do i get em
- emotional/physiological aspect
That could work :)

Q : What are eating disorders? Do I have one?
A : Anorexia is one type of eating disorder. Someone with anorexia severely limits the amount of food they eat and may exercise excessively in an effort to become/remain thin. Anorexics have a distorted body image, an intense fear of gaining weight, and can become dangerously thin. In some cases anorexia can lead to serious health problems and can even be fatal.

Bulimia is another type of eating disorder. People suffering from bulimia will binge on food and then do something drastic such as vomitting or using laxatives to rid themselves of the food.

Binge eating or compulsive overeating is another type of eating disorder. Binge eating, often referred to as BED around CC, is a serious condition characterized by uncontrollable eating resulting in weight gain.

Other variations of these may be classified as disorders that are called NOS (not otherwise specified), a definition the DSM-IV has given disorders that are severe enough to be classified but doesnt fit the criteria of the other ones, like an anorexic who is normal weight or overweight.

If you think you are suffering from an ED, it is important you seek medical treatment. A doctor is the only one qualified to diagnose you or treat you. Your doctor may recommend, for certain types of disordered eating, that you do not use this site. Please follow your doctors orders and good luck on your healthy lifestyle!

Q : What are the rules of engagement here at CC? What is netiquette? Why has my post moved? Why has the content changed?
A : So you've wandered around CC a bit and have discovered the forums, Congratulations! The forums are a wonderful place where you can go and ask questions, give answers, make friends and have a lot of fun. There are just a few things to keep in mind to make it a fun place for everyone. Following proper internet ettiquete (netiquette) is one key way to make your forum experience a good one.
First, have you seen the posting guidelines? If not, here they are! :)
Posting Guidelines
When starting a post it is important to make sure you post to the correct forum otherwise it may be moved to the proper forum by our moderators :)
Also, when starting a post it is important to be clear and concise when giving a title to your thread. A short descriptive titles is better than a simple 'help!' :)
Next, here are some general internet etiquette, or netiquette, rules for all of internet-land :)
Finally, here is our advice to you..
1. Sometimes when we type things we mean them one way but without the inflections, people take it in a totally different way. Please keep this in mind when you're writing posts and when you're reading them. A *grin*, a :) and a =D can be a great way to help express yourself :)
If someone says something that offends you or upsets you try asking them to clarify what they mean. If after clarifying you're still upset by it, why not try contacting them via their e-mail address (listed in their profiles in some cases) or invite them to e-mail you so that you can discuss it in private. Moving the conversation to a private journal entry is another way to discuss issues with other members. Confronting someone in a public forum can upset and embarass people and things escalate unnecessarily. This creates an uncomfortable situation for everyone.
2. Sometimes when you're "hanging out" with your friends in an open forum you make comments that aren't always appropriate for everyone else to read. Even comments or conversations that start out innocent may offend someone if they stumble on it by accident. Take it to your journal. That's what it's there for. There also an option to make your journal "friends only". Once you're in your journal you can talk about what ever you need to without worrying what impression you may make on an innocent by-stander. Journals are unmoderated but public entries are open for all to see.
3. Watch that language!! You never know who will be reading what you're writing in an open forum. Kids and adults alike could be offended by cursing and swearing. Though using character to replace letters seems like an innocent way to express yourself, it's still very simple to figure out the cuss word that you meant. Once you get into your journal anything goes, but out in the forums you need to remember you have a big and diverse audience.
4. So you're going through some forums and stumble upon someone who isn't playing by the rules, what do you do now? If you scroll up to the top of the topic you'll see a little link that says "report violation". Just click away and someone will look into it. Consider it doing your part so that CC is a place everyone can enjoy.

Posting Guidelines
- We can only at this time accept postings in English.
- Your post is subject to modification or deletion by our moderators. Repetitive and frivolous posts will be removed.
- Commercialized promotional posts are strictly forbidden.
- Copyrighted works including newspaper or online articles, web pages, press releases, or book excerpts are not allowed, with the exception of minor "fair play" use.
- Please avoid threatening other members, making inflammatory comments or posts, or using foul language.
- Basic HTML formatting tags and links can be used in the message body.
- Do not blame the system administrator for the behavior of the system users.
- Consider that a large audience will see your posts. That may include your present or your next boss. Take care in what you write.
- Messages and articles should be brief and to the point. Don't wander off-topic, don't ramble and don't send mail or post messages solely to point out other people's errors in typing or spelling. These, more than any other behavior, mark you as an immature beginner.
- A good rule of thumb: Be conservative in what you send and liberal in what you receive. You should not send heated messages (we call these "flames") even if you are provoked. On the other hand, you shouldn't be surprised if you get flamed and it's prudent not to respond to flames.
- If you should find yourself in a disagreement with one person, make your responses to each other via mail rather than continue to send messages to the list or the group. If you are debating a point on which the group might have some interest, you may summarize for them later.
- Don't get involved in flame wars. Neither post nor respond to incendiary material.
Finally, here is our advice to you..

Q : Are negative or zero calories foods real? What are they? What about my 0 calorie salad dressing?
A : Unfortunately there is no such thing as negative or zero calorie foods. There are, however a few fruits and veggies that will expend more calories through digestion than are in the actual food, in essence making them zero calories :) Celery is a good example of such a food.
Click here to see a list of negative calorie foods.
It is important to note that both US (below) and Canadian (click here to view) government regulations allow companies to lable their foods as 0 calories when there are less than 5 calories per serving.
Taken from the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21
(b) Calorie content claims. (1) The terms "calorie free,'' "free
of calories,'' "no calories,'' "zero calories,'' "without calories,'' "trivial source of calories,'' "negligible source of calories,'' or
"dietarily insignificant source of calories'' may be used on the label
or in the labeling of foods, provided that:
(i) The food contains less than 5 calories per reference amount
customarily consumed and per labeled serving.

Q : How do I figure out how many calories I burn? What is my expenditure?
A : It is important to note, this site doesn't calculate BMR (Basal Metabolism Rate), how many calories you spend sitting on your bum, it calculates AMR (Active Metabolism Rate), which is BMR + an assumption of how many calories are spent moving around. It's your BMR times a factor, depending on your activity level.
To determine your expenditure click here.
When choosing an activity level choose one that best matches how active you are every day. Alternately, you may choose sedentary and use our handy dandy activity log. Don't forget that since the expenditure tool calculates your AMR it is assuming you're moving a little bit so logging such things as grooming and trips to the outhouse are unnecessary :)

Here are some of the new Qs I've been working on;
Q : What are eating disorders? Do I have one?
Q : What are the rules of engagement here at CC? What is netiquette? Why has my post moved? Why has the content changed?
Q : Are negative or zero calories foods real? What are they? What about my 0 calorie salad dressing?
Q : How do I figure out how many calories I burn? What is my expenditure?
Q : Diet pills, do they work? Are they safe? Can I keep the weight off using diet pills? Is it healthy?
Anyone wanna take a look to make sure it's all copacetic? :D *BEGS PATHETICALLY* The expenditure Q prolly needs the most help... :)

A : That is a tough one, one I am not qualified to answer never having gotten that M.D. after my name :). Below are gobs of links to forum discussions about this very topic for you to peruse with both pro and con positions. Please, speak to your doctor before taking any type of weight loss pill, drug or supplement. Although you may decide to try an all herbal diet pill, they can have a very real effect on your health the same way a drug can. Herbal does not equate safe just because it is natural.
