QUESTION OF THE DAY WED JULY 23

(Without going into details about who you would choose/vote for) ... If the presidential elections could be held in a few weeks -- rather than way off in November -- would you be ok with holding the elections sooner rather than later?

I don't think there are that many people on the fence for this election, so I don't really think there would be a problem with holding it earlier.  I guess my only real objection is that a lot of people travel during the summer, and it could be kind of a pain to deal with that.

What veggies are in your house RIGHT NOW?  (And are you planning on eating any of them?)

Fresh: spinach, carrots, broccoli, celery (although not too fresh), sprouts, onion, butternut squash, tomatoes, broccoli cole slaw mix (I use it in tossed salad)

Frozen: not sure but I think what ever is in there has been there too long.

Canned: canned tomatoes of all kinds, canned chick peas, black beans, and pinto beans (are those vegetables? - hmmm not sure)

Yes, we will eat them. I just made a vegetable soup that included some of these plus some zucchini and lima beans.

Elections?

It doesn't matter to me much.

Election? Don't care when they have it! :)

Doesn't matter when they have it, as long as you know who is out of office.

Great job medveditsa what a nice accomplishment.

As far as the election goes, I hope that there will be some good debates so we can get a better sense of these guys.  I find it interesting that these senators are quick to distance themselves from some of the current issues and act like they are going to save the day.  As our senators where have they been and what are they doing right now to make things better.  Talk is cheap and we certainly here enough of it.  Who ever gets into office certainly will have a lot to deal with and will face difficult decisions. Hopefully that person will do what is right for the country despite the potential of lost votes.

Sorry for the soap box; politics has a way of doing that.  (If it's any consolation I erased half of my post before replying) Have a good evening-Dianne

I have to share with everyone that I walked 4.4 miles today!!!  Thats the furthest I've been able to walk in years! Not bc of my weight, bc of my back and leg pain! I split it up and did 1 mile first, then waited like 2 hrs and walked 2 miles, then waited 4 hrs and walked the last mile. Did it with the help of meds, but I DID IT!!!!  YAYYYYY MEEEE!!!!!

Wooo Hoooo! 4.4 miles for momof2funykids ... yay!

Way to go on the 4.4, momof2funykids!  That's a long way to walk even without any back and leg pain!  I hope you saved a little energy for a happy dance when you got home!

Thank you guys! You are so sweet! :)  I couldn't wait til hubby got up to go to work to tell him!  I am so happy I did it!

I just hope I see some movement on the scale for it! lol

Congratulations momof2funykds! That's awesome! I hope this means your back and leg are on the mend. I know exercise is good for those things if done in moderation. Sounds like that is exactly what you are doing. Good for you!

QUESTION OF THE DAY - THURSDAY JULY 24

Is there any food that you don't eat because it's either too messy or too much work?

I have avoided watermelon in the past for this very reason. But I really love watermelon. I know you can buy it already cut but I'm too cheap to want to do that. I'm getting better though. I've bought two in the last month. And yes, they were messy to deal with. But they sure were good.

i do not eat much brussels sprouts unless in a restaurant, or rhubarb - neither of those i really LOVE and all the work they require when prepared from scratch is not worth it for me (canned brussels sprouts i do not even like to eat:)

i eat mushrooms only when i am ocassionally cooking for more people, doing a bigger meal, not when i make something for one ka:-)

as the above poster said i also have been avoiding watermelon, but for different reasons-i would not be able to eat the whole thing by myself and i am liing by myself (at work we are not the type of collective where people bring foods to others). usually when i go to visit someone who might want it i already carry thing, so having an extra huge thing is less desirable:) (i do not have a car) but i am going to visit someone tomorrow and the journey is pretty short... hmm! watermelon:)

I love sushi, but I don't feel like doing the work to make my own, so I only have it if I'm eating out.  I have a friend who doesn't mind spending the time to make the marinated/glazed mushroom rolls to bring to parties, but she's used to fussing over food (used to be a blue ribbon state fair person - overachiever!).

Nope!

I love making big messes in the kitchen, and I get pretty ambitious about the dishes I prepare.  I really like being in the kitchen, so I'm not turned off by dishes that have lots of prep and cleanup.  I have made meals that took 3 days to cook and loved just about every minute of it.

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- TUESDAY JULY 22

(Pretend for a moment you don't care about calories.)  Are you an ice cream "purist" (just ice cream, NO cone, NO toppings), or do you like "stuff" on your icecream? Hot fudge? Caramel? Butterscotch? Nuts? Sprinkles? Fruit? And what flavor of ice cream is your favorite????

I can really go any way when it comes to ice cream...give it to me in a bowl on a cone or on a stick, I like it any way! Embarassed  Usually, if I eat it in a bowl at home, it is just plain, if I'm out I add a little caramel or some strawberries.  My favorite ice cream is a Reese's peanut butter cup blizzard from Dairy Queen, but I also like simple vanilla.

I don't get into politics because if I do then my DH & I don't agree! LOL!  So, I don't really care if it is sooner than later, although sooner would mean I don't have to hear about it so much from my DH!

I can't really think of any that I avoid for those reasons.  I do avoid using the oven a lot in the summertime because it heats up my house so quickly.  But, I love to cook for a group of people & this last year my side of the family has started gathering at my house for Thanksgiving so I really look forward to that every year!

QUESTION OF THE DAY -- FRIDAY JULY 25

Well if I'm going to fess up, I not only talk to it, I abuse it! If I don't like what is says to me, I stomp on it and try to persuade it to be nicer to me. And when it is nice, I take all the glory and brag about all the weight I lost, giving it no credit what-so-ever to the scale.

Hi everyone!  I have been lurking for the past few weeks.  And I have been very lax about logging my food.  However, I really think I've gotten used to portion control and reasonable healthy eating because eventhough I have not been logging and eventhough I've had a few events filled with food temptations I managed to drop another lb.

Granted it's the same lb I've been losing for a while but at least it was a lb and I feel good that I did not put on any weight, something I was sure I had done after the Ann Arbor Art Fair and all the "fair food" which frankly is not fair at all.  HEHEHE  I mean really, Chicken on a stick??? funnel cakes???? YIKES.  I managed to escape with a nice indian meal of Sag Paneer and rice.  MMMMMM

I'll jump in on the last question: No, I don't talk to the scale because I am usually butt naked standing in my step daughter's bathroom where our scale is located, hoping no one is home to see me.  I figure that's crazy enough behavior.

I also wanted to weigh in (pun intended) on the elections question.  I don't know if I want the election to come early but I am excited by the election this and am eager to see how it unfolds.  What an exciting time for our country, let's hope for opportunities in the midst of these crisises we are facing.
