| Carrie: Thanks. The Yahoo TDF website story says that Astana has accepted an invitation to withdraw from the race. Andi Kloden is probably ready to kill his team mate. This is almost soap opera material. | ||

TDF I know the pressure to win is high but come on, those guys are suppoesed to be professionals.
I seem to have lost my cycling mojo. I resumed commuting today and half way to work the front tire on my road bike had a blow out. I already gave the cycling gods a pound of flesh what else could they want? |

Vino test positive, Astana withdraws, and this is what tour organisers said about the current leader:
Clerc (ASO President) said that if ASO (Amaury Sports Organisation) had been informed of yellow jersey holder Michael Rasmussen's two warnings for failing to provide his personal training schedule, the Dane would not have been invited to race.
"We should have been aware of this failure to abide by the rules and he would not have been invited on the Tour de France because he is not a good example for the rest of the riders.
"A so-called champion has to act like a champion."
It's like 1998 all over again. |

Hi, This is Vikas @ AU. Been biking for almost a year. Started with a mountain bike and now a Hybrid, hopefully graduating to a road bike soon. I also like going to spinning classes. I mostly bike to and from work and to the gym. My current beast is an Avanti Bladesport Cheers! |

My mom said something about Ras not providing his training schedule. Apparently he feels that it is none of anyone's business. If it is in the rules though he is going to have to abide by them. If the TdF is by invitation only, don't they check up on these people before they send out the invitations? Joe, definitely soap opera or maybe even Jerry Springer. Let me see what the danish newspapers have to say about this mess.
gmule, those cycling gods are getting a little greedy when it comes to you. You need to tell them to back off vikas, a big welcome from me. On my way home from work tonight I encountered every single ignorant driver out there (is there a full moon tonight?). I got run off the road twice, some man honked his horn at me (scared the living something out of me) and a car load of teenagers screamed some pretty bad things at me (hi five to them for actually being able to think up these things at the spur of the moment). Gosh, I can't wait 'til school starts again! Jane |

Jane I am about ready for winter already. I miss my solitary commutes. It seems that the warm weather really brings out the wack jobs. Last car load of teenagers that heckled me was a car full of girls. The seemed to appreciate what cycling has done to improve the looks of my back side.
Vikaszz Welcome to the club I think you are going to love a road bike. Nothing better then feeling every bit of effort hit the rear wheel. |

| Ras was magnificent today. He left Discovery's Lepheimer and Contador in his vapor trail over the last kilometer. However, Ras has been sacked by Rabobank over a wee lie. He didn't just forget to file paperwork letting people know he went to Mexico. It seems he actually spent June in Italy. I love a soap opera. The really sad part was that the ICU had this information two weeks before the start of the TDF but waited until midway through the race to notify TDF officials. Intentional or not, that bomb was timed for maximum damage. | ||

| Ironic isn't it that both riders suspected of being among the "Men in Black" are now out of the tour. | ||

I was reading about that in the danish newspaper yesterday (the lie thing). He claimed that he had sent his training schedule to this one woman with the ICU but it turns out she did not start working there until 6 months after that. What a freaking mess. So, does that mean he is out of the TdF? Time to check the newspaper again. At first Rabobank defended Ras; they said that he was not the only rider who didn't submit his where abouts. I guess they changed their minds.
gmule, I was told: "you've got a long way to go for the Tour de France, baby". Are you feeling any better after the crash? Well, I better get to bed. I have the sitter coming tomorrow so that I can get out there riding. I had to stop by the gas station to pick up some poptarts for his royal majesty (that would be my son) and a cop praised me for my lights on the bike. Two seconds later he tackeled some dude to the ground and took him away in handcuffs. Life sure is great here in hick town Medina! Jane |

| I am feeling much better after the crash. I am back on my bike and I have completed 2 days of commuting. Being hurt sitting in the car is worse then being hurt sitting on the bike. I am riding cautiously right now but I am on bike and that is all that matters right now. | ||

What a disaster! How can Rabobank not keep a closer eye on their team. Of course Ras should not have done what he did but I am sure sponsoring someone like this is costing a pretty penny and I would want to know what the heck they are doing.
Rasmussen's days are numbered. He can join me on the back roads in Medina, lol. Time to find a new favorite in the Tour. I went for a ride in pouring down rain. Didn't bother me one bit though - it was nice and cool. Jane |

Just found something interesting in the danish newspaper. Obviously the danes are pretty tricked off at Rasmussen (who still claims to have been in Mexico). Now the danish fans are calling on him to just show them his passport. Mexico stamps a person's passport when they enter and exit the country. Wouldn't that solve a lot of headaches. Wonder if he will do it.

Wow, I found this thread on page 3 tonight. I got my Quest back tonight. Total cost for installing an essentially new drive train was over half the original cost of the new bike. And I wasn't charged a penny. Now I have to give it a good shake down and hopefully it will do what it was supposed to do in the first place. But not this weekend. This weekend I tippy toe into bike touring. I will be heading up to Thurmont -- about 55 miles away -- spend the night in a hotel and return on Sunday. I'll post a report later. |

Good luck with the touring, Joe. Let us know how it goes.
How old is your Quest? That is awesome that you didn't have to pay for it. Jane |

Hi. Not sure if anyone would know this, but I thought I would ask. I have power meter on my bike, and it reports total kJ used on a ride. How is that translates to Calories burned. I have heard 1 to 1, and C=.85*kJ. Seems to be just "I heard it somewhere". No links to official studies. Thanks |

| No riding for me today. Went to Taco Bell last night and got a touch of food poisoning. Now I know why they call it "Toxic Hell". | ||

We tried a new area ride today, Chickamauga National Battlefield near Chattanooga TN. We just moved to Chattanooga area about 4 weeks ago, so we were out prospecting for good riding areas. It seems a great place to bike, very modest traffic with 25-35 mph speed limits, lots of nicely paved roads, mix of fields and woodlands, plenty of places to stop and even picnic areas if you are so inclined. Oh yes, and mostly flat with some modest climbs that were no problem even with our hybrid bikes and packs. Lots if interesting monuments and civil war history too. We got in a quick 20 miles and plan to return soon with our road bikes. Saw several bikers so seems a popular spot. Probably nearly deserted during the week. Try it out if you are in NW. Ga or E. TN. | I had weired encounter with a motorist last night On my way home from work. I was peddaling along at a decent speed when a guy in a red ford f-150 slows down to pace me. He rolled the window down and asked me if I wanted a ride. I replied back that I had a ride but thanks for the offer and I waved him off. I figured that would make him go away but he just kept pacing me for another mile or so insisting that I take the offer. I ended braking hard and making a U turn behind the truck and turned off on several side streets to lose the guy but man that was a wierd situation. | ||
