FYI- In case anyone wants to know that Splenda actually has 4 calories in one packet. The reason they say it has 0 is because according to the FDA anything that has less that 5 calories can actually be measured as 0 so I have to be careful when I use it. Because I like my ice tea really sweet so with a normal 8 oz glass I use about 6 packets so that adds up to 24 calories. The granular kind for baking is different it does have calories check out this article: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977021 812 Stinky |

| Hi folks -- very inspired by all of you and it is working. Down 15.2 since January and down 3 lbs since last week. My husband is a coach and I always hear him talk abouth "chunking" a problem. That is -- not to focus on end goal but each step along the way. I am breaking up my weight loss efforts into sections. Just focusing on the day and the week goal. I am also switching different eating plans and trying to keep calories at around 1000 and upping exercise -- even if it is a walk. For this week I am doing apple liver flush diet. Have not been perfect but on a good path. thanks everyone. M. | ||

| Anyone trying Splenda should look at the local grocery store for the sweetner called Sugar Twin. It is alot sweeter than Splenda, and doesn't have the after taste that splenda does. The pack says 0 calories, but like splenda, who know if it really has calories. Pug | ||

| The only thing about Sugar Twin it is saccharin-based. I myself don't like the bitter after taste of it, but everyone has their own opinion...I prefer Splenda... | ||

| I have never been so excited to lose a pound before in my life. This place is awesome. Tracking my meals in the food log and excersice in the activity log makes such a huge difference and to see your progress. I logged everything. At the end of the week I had a little over 4000 deficit and lost 1.2 pounds. I have 117 to go, but doing it one pound at a time. | ||

| Hey Chasity, Your stats are like mine. I was 288 and I want to drop 100, ideally 125. Since I started this at the beginning of March I have taken off 18!!! I almost fell off my scale on Sunday when it read 269! I want to be 175 by next November I figure taking it slow is the only way it's going to happen. all the best in your journey! | ||

Going back to Sugar Twin vs Splenda it is really a matter of taste. Both have good and bad points. I myself don't taste the after taste of Splenda, but I do taste the bitterness of Sugar Twin. If I put Splenda on fruit it is fine, but Sugar Twin I cannot even get it down too bitter for me, but that is just me. Here is a link to a little more information on the brands of sweeteners out there:

Hi, there, can I come in? I started a gym exercise program and CC on Mother's day, in memory of my mother, who always wanted me to take care of myself. I think my highest weight was about 252 but I was down to 245 when I weighed in at the gym. I'm now down to about 235. I have had moderately severe fibromyalgia for 12 years, so working out definitely makes stuff hurt. But then again, so does sitting around, so I figure I may as well have fun.
My goals - more or less in this order - are to be able to return to roller skating, learn to ice skate, learn to ski next winter, get my aerobic fitness up to where I can hike a reasonable trail, and have enough upperbody strength to windsurf. Weight loss is necessary to make some of this come true (chinning 235 on a windsurfer boom is pretty hard!) Before I got sick I was at a strong and healthy 165, at 5'5" my BMI was pretty high but you know, I'd be happy to see those days again! |

Hi, sagercih. You may become my new inspiration. I just joined this site from the recommendation of a friend and already I love it. I hope to become moderately addicted. I have also just recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia so its great to know I'm not alone. My goals, for right now, are to get below the 200 mark (I'm currently sitting at 212) and get a grip and awareness of how much I'm eating. This sight is recommending a 1200 calorie diet, but I'm much more comfortable consuming a 1600 calorie diet coupled with some type of exercise. Is anyone have success with a similar strategy? |

Hi again everyone....
I joined 8 days ago and started at 267,{ I'm 33 and 5'4"} I've been staying between 1000-1200 calories per day - I try to stay closer to 1200 but it's hard....physically to eat that much food - I eat a LOT of fresh fruits & veggies...and even though I know logically that I need a certain number of calories per day, a part of me just feels like I have so far to go, and staying just a little under calories just to start out {emotionally }seems like a good idea I was down to 260.3 Sunday and then back up to 263.6 on Monday, but I had a slightly high sodium day on Sunday, so I'm going to hope that the gain is just water retention.... I am going for hikes in the woods on the weekends {with my awesome husband who encourages me and cooks me delicious, healthy meals} but not getting much exercise during the week, and I'm a receptionist, so not much activity at work either.. I just thought I'd share my experience with this site so far, It's fantastic! Thanks for listening, ~J |

| ...And, on the topic of sweetners, I use Stevia ~ it's a totally natural plant extractive, 0 calories, 1 g carbs, <1g sugars, 0 fat and 0 sodium acording to the nutirition on the box. I get it in packets so I can take it to work with me. You can find it in the natural foods section of most grocery stores and in health food stores too. Here's a link to the webpage for the brand I use, there are some others out there as well, this one seems to be the most widely available: | ||

| ...it looks like the link didn't work, but the site is www.nunaturals.com . I'm sure if you Google 'Stevia' you could find some additional info too :) | ||

Hey everyone... I joined a few months ago when my weight had reached 201 lbs...and I now weigh 211.5 lbs. I'm 24 years old and my height is 5'2. I am having so much trouble motivating myself. I've been at or above the 200 mark for only 6 months or so...but that's long enough for me! I need support...I think. I just don't know where to start. I never exercise...rarely get out of the house because of how I feel about my body. I eat all the time....and I eat terribly. Last night it was a bbq bacon cheeseburger from IHOP... In the past...it was so much easier to lose weight but now it's just not happening... Any advice? I would like to know what works... Help me start over... Please |

Beautifulsarah - sounds like focusing on your food and weight is stopping you from a lot of stuff. Why don't you focus on your health instead? In other words - commit to exercise 3 times a week FIRST before you sweat the food intake. I know it takes a lot of nerve to put on workout clothes and leave the house - and I know some people work out at home as a result. Since you say you don't get out of the house and never exercise- I'm guessing your house is not inspiring exercise! Mine doesn't either - I pretty much have to go somewhere to work out in order to make myself do it. I mix a little cardio and a little weight training. If you haven't been exercising at all, don't be afraid that you have to work out for hours on end - you'll feel noticeably different with 30 minutes every other day. Twenty minutes on a bike, treadmill, or hiking trail (do you have a dog? Make His day!) and ten minutes with resistance training and you will be amazed at the difference. I am being totally sneaky here, because I happen to know that after you get moving, suddenly you will not want to pollute your newly energized body with awful stuff. Also, while you are at it - think of an fun activity you have never done because of your weight or have given up because of your weight (swimming? Dancing? waterskiing? for me it was skating...) and make a plan to DO IT, and not just when you've lost all the weight but get strong enough to do it soon.... |
