HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

welcome wyo- i love jack russells!!!  i don't have one...but i love em!!!  it sounds like all of y'all from wyoming and utah are in a beautiful part of the country!!  i can't wait to see it all someday!!  from my "y'all" you can probably tell i'm from the south!!  :)

rockin-congrats on the no gain!  i would actually love a no gain this week b/c i "peeked" this morning (official tomorrow) and it showed a 2 pound gain.  not sure why.  i'm trying not to get upset b/c i know i haven't done anything differently.  i am also a turtle at losing!!

the one thing i have not done this week that i have the previous weeks is drink a cold bottled water first thing in the morning (after my coffee).  did i ever tell y'all that's what my friend, the RN, said was the best way to speed up your metabolism for the day??

do you think my body is just trying to hang on??  (well, so much for my being upbeat.....right, rockinmama?)

i've already decided that if that 2 pounds is there tomorrow on official day, i'll just deal with....(last time i had a small loss when i thought i should have had more..i pouted and pouted)  but tomorrow i will just put my big girl panties on and deal with it!  :) (no pun intended..hahaha)

kt-boy, June will be busy huh???  congratulations on your graduation!

vk-i'm glad your migraine is gone....ugh...i suffer from those as well.  not as often anymore, but when i get em....

janella--woohoo for your 5 inches!!!!!!  that is awesome!!!

blue-those fajitas sound yummy!!!!!  how was the weigh in today??

Wyo --  One place I'd love to visit, but i think not in the winter.  I'm not much for cold weather.  if it drops below 70 degrees, I'm putting on winter sweaters and such.  But maybe it would be a good reason to exercise and turn the body heat up!!!

I'm from the midwest and it gets pretty cold here, and lots of ice which i hate.  It makes you want to stay curled up inside under lots of blankets.

Even so, i did look forward to exercising at work this winter.  We did either step aerobics or Zumba two evenings a week and still going strong.  it's so fun, I actually look forward to going to work so that i can go to the exercise class.

Kt -  Congrats on Grads!  It is a wonderful feeling to complete it all.  I hope to go back for another degree here soon.  I want to do something totally different this time.  I just have to save the money now.

vk -  migraines are a curse.  At least I don't get the nausea with them.  Just the blinding headaches, super sensitivity to noise and light, and literally so much foggy vision I feel blind...  These are truly no exercise or movement days.

janella -- FIVE INCHES!  i'm jealous.  At this point, i would settle for one inch, one pound, one anything except a gain.  i've been battling the same 5 pounds for over a year and a half.  I lost 10 pounds after getting diagnosed with diabetes, then nothing.  i go down 5 and up 5, down 2, up 3, etc and so on.

All of you guys are really cool and i think the best motivation i've seen so far is the friendship and encouragement and the fact that we are all in the same boat.  I don't think anyone can truly understand the struggle until they have been where we are.

Thanks for being there!

well I did lose:) I guess technically 1.5 pounds if I go by last Sundays weight. Last Sat. I was 286 then Sun, 287 and today 285.5 so anyway, I'm happy, it's good. Yeah! Hopefully this week will be easier to stay off the scale.

Rockinmama-that's so very cool that your husband plans things for your anniversary. How romantic! Mine does like he does for Christmas, birthdays etc and waits till the day before and runs out and buys something. Not really complaining, at least he does remember.

ktcort-that's got to feel good to be so close to graduating, that's a big accomplishment.

itsmystime-that was pretty funny with the big girl panties.

you guys make me smile!!
#744 itsmytime Apr 22 2007 18:48
congrats blue.....1.5 is great!!!!!!  a loss is a loss is a loss!!!!!

blj--you are so right!! unless you are in our shoes, it's hard to understand!  i'm not knocking anyone on this site  b/c if you are wanting to lose 10 pounds, then you want to lose 10 pounds.  But well, we just all understand each and every struggle!!!  That's why we applaud each achievement, b/c we truly know and understand how hard those steps are!!!

Well I think its time for me to introduce myself, I've been working on losing weigh since Oct 2006, and I have not been able to stay on a steady pace. I feel backwards during christmas and again this past week. I'm 5-2 and 227lbs, but I did start at 253 my heighest weight ever. I'm 23 years old as of this past week as well. I'm trying to maintain my water intake, watch my food intake and get off my behind a little bit more. My family is trying to support me but things have been going downhill since beginning of the month. So I'm starting to look for some suport here and I know I'll get it.
#746 blj55 Apr 22 2007 20:03
abearhugs -  Good for you! I've been getting off my but but not nearly enough i guess.  i've been trying for a year and a half and not much luck.  i get support from my family but sometimes that support turns to criticism no matter how nicely the words are said and no matter how the sentiment is intended.  you have already proven that you can do it, now just stick to it.  Setbacks happen whether you want them to or not (I broke my ankle a couple of years ago), but you are young and well on your way to achieving.  When i was 23, i lost 40 pounds in about 8 months.  The most I have ever lost.  i loved it.  I was able to shop anywhere i wanted and wear just about anything I wanted, except for skinny tops, I am "lucky" enough to be well endowed whether thin or not.  Anyway, i felt so much better when i was lighter.  I'm trying to recapture that feeling and motivation now.  My motivation then, was clothes and getting them to fit, feel, and look right.  Now, i like the clothes, but health and being around for my husband and children is my motivation.

Get healthy and stay that way.  Exercise is good for you even if there isn't a large weight loss.  I just keep trying to tell myself...."keep moving!"     p.s.  I'm 5'2" and weigh 240.
#747 itsmytime Apr 22 2007 21:28
welcome bearhug!  glad you are here!  yes, i am 5 ft 1 1/2 ...and weigh 229.5.  started 6 weeks ago at 245.  congrats on your loss!

hope everyone is having a good Sunday afternoon!  i am on here b/c i have the munchies so i figure it's better to type than eat!!!
#748 ginnyannb Apr 22 2007 21:31
Rockin...I am glad for you that you didn't gain.  My husband didn't either but then he hasn't lost any either.  He went back to wrok 4 weeks ago and is eating way more than 2000 calories but he must be burning them too.  It will happen for you...and we will be here for you when it does and in between...I am glad you got to go for a walk with your husband.  We don't get to do that much here.

congrats Kt on graduating...I wish we could send you some extra cash...wish I could find some extra cash...:-)

Hi smare...I feel like I am going to eat the whole house during TTOM, wood and all...:-)    I am sure things will settle down and smooth out for you soon.  I understand about the crying...my oldest is non-verbal and spends a great deal of time grunting and screaming and "yelling"  I used to worry the neighbors thought I was killing him...lol...You son will get older and use more of his words before you know it...

itsmy...we'll be rooting for you in the morning...RA RA RA...no matter what the scale says...the first thought that came to mind was that I am sure we all have some REALLY big girl panties you could borrow...well, it seemed funny at first if you don't think about the actual borrowing...

blj...congrats for keeping up with the exercise...

Yeah blue!!!! 1.5 is great...I am looking forward to tomorrow morning's weigh in...

itsmy...I like group hugs...

hello abear...welcome to the group....

stats for day 51 (Saturday 4/21) 1860 calories, 49 ounces of water, 23 minutes of exercise.

I did 279 minutes for the week total.  I decided Sundays I won't do any formal exercise like the treadmill.  I still keep busy though...
#749 ginnyannb Apr 22 2007 21:32
itsmy...I come on here to "talk" to everyone when I get the munchies...
#750 blueotter Apr 22 2007 21:54
I came on just now to get out of the kitchen too. I was cleaning but that will have to wait till the munchies settle down.

#753 ktcort13 Apr 22 2007 23:48
haha ginny i think everyone wishes they could find some extra money. luckily my mom said she'd pay for half of my bridesmaid dress b/c that was 150. then she mentioned me buying a dress for my graduation and i'm like i wont have any money to do anything haha.

this morning the scale said i lost only .8 pounds this week which really really sucks. But i ate horribly yesterday so i'm going to count tomorows weight as my actual weight.

congrats to everyone who lost or at least prevented a gain this week! I think i'm falling into a funk so i need to get back into the gym so i can try and look decent for all this stuff coming up.

hope everyones weekend is going good!
#754 ell-bell Apr 22 2007 23:52
WTG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God Spring has finally arrived. Did lots of yard work yesterday and today. Good thing because I went over my 1000 calories today.  (Over 1000 but not over 1200 ... guess that's ok).  3 lbs. Turtle? I'm jealous!  It's still nice out here so I think I'll go for a walk. Thanks for the email congrats Rockin'.

Welcome to all the Newbees!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
#755 dirtyprettythings Apr 23 2007 00:48
I'm SOOO happy to find this post.

I'm 255 lbs (down from 269).

I'm 5'7".. just turned 30.

I have some friends who understand what it means to be this heavy, but we all get caught up in our old habits.  I try to work out at least 2-3 times a week, but my failure comes in trying to control what I eat.  I have will power in spurts, but nothing that is long-lasting- and thus whatever progress I make, I usually end up doing self sabatoge.

Ultimately, my goal weight is 150, but honestly, I'd be happy to see under 200 again.

It's a joy to meet you all.. I hope we can support each other- and give each other great ideas.
#756 blueotter Apr 23 2007 00:53
ginny- yeah it did help. I just had an early dinner and a smoothie and am quite full. Good thing because my naughty daughter brought home some really yummy ice cream(chocolate brownie thunder, it's a local brand and as you can tell from the name it's soo good). I told her, nuh uh girl, you can't keep that in the freezer! She and some friends are going to have it and then she'll probably take it to a friends house.

Good to hear from you turtle I wondered where you'd gotten to. Three pounds!! way to go!!!! Great job!!

thanks ell bell and everybody!
#757 blueotter Apr 23 2007 00:59
welcome dirty!!!

ktcort-I'm sure you lost more but .8 aint nothin to shake a stick at either. Wow your scale really goes into detail. Good thing mine doesn't go beyond half pounds. Boy, can you imagine? I'd really drive myself nuts, lol.
#758 rockinmama Apr 23 2007 01:01
itsmy- You had me in stitches....heehee...big girl panties....I need a pair of those too...lol.

Turtle- 3lbs....way to go girl.....RA,RA,RA!  I tell you we should start a cheerleading team here..lol

katie- .8lbs is pretty good.  As long as you're losing you're not in a funk yet.  But the gym never hurt anybody so away you go girl...lol...hop to it! :)

Welcome bearhug- you'll definately get support here.

Blue- Yay, yay, yay.  1.5 lbs gone off of you my dear. Feels good eh?  Now it wasnt' that hard to stay away fromthe scale was it? :) Oh and about hubby planning things for our anniversary....heehee...he doesn't...I was being hopeful....sorry to disappoint you or mislead...I just hope he remembers and does plan something this year.  He's a wonderful hubby but not the most romantic..:l  I'd love to be able to go on a romantic getaway to a place with a heartshaped jaccuzzi....heehee.  It will be 15 years for us this June so I really want to do something special but I want him to think it was his idea...lol.

Today I'm pretty sore.  Worked in my flower garden all afternoon yesterday and did yard work today.  My bones and muscles are killing me.  Good exercise I would think though.  So hopefully it will get me losing for next friday.
#759 blueotter Apr 23 2007 01:15
Oh well mama. They're men. There can't be very many overly romantic types or they wouldn't have the reputation they do. We can keep hoping. lol. Congrats on 15 yrs! That ain't nothin to shake a stick at either!
#760 rockinmama Apr 23 2007 01:31
Thanks blue! :)

dirtyprettythings- Forgot to welcome you.  I think most of us have lots of will power in spurts.  We all get those bad days but it's nice to be able to vent on here.  We're all good listeners.  :)
